Figuring out a middle-8 section for Everytime. I'm sure it doesn't come as a big surprise that I've been listening to a lot of Herbie Hancock lately. All of these sounds are temporary by the way, just getting the "idea" down, so lots of bum notes and poorly mixed.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I've been working my bollocks off on a couple Pencilmations. One day I'll be able to work on my own stuff again, but that's been the trade-off of ditching my waiter job for an actual animation-y job.

Revisiting this track. So far I've just done some drumming the second time around, but I could probably turn this into some kind of funk type track, I dunno the genre name. A bit overkill with the gated reverb, but it was fun to experiment with. The kick drum is just me thumping my chest; it's remarkable how usable that is. I'm sick of drum samples sounding the same time and time again. You just can't beat hitting real things to the music.

Not quite finished, but got the voice processed nicely and most of the footage shot. Some of it's going to need some colour correction and the music and titles are temporary. Let's hope XP-PEN like it before I complete it!

The Alesis XT:c reverb unit does some odd glitching when you switch reverb modes, so I figured it could be used as an effect in itself. The chord came from an SQ-80 VST emulation, and went into my dad's FET-based phaser before going into the Alesis.
Did the thumbnail in Clip Studio Paint for the Artist22E Pro review.

There's a pause after 3:37 'cause I'm yet to put a bridge between the hip-hoppy bit and the ending. But got something going there. Thanks to my mum, Kate, for doing some vocals!

Thought I'd do an Xmassy drawing for the Artist22E Pro review which you'll hopefully be seeing by next week or so. Those trees are a bit naff, but I didn't want to spend too much time looking at photo reference.

Added an extra verse in the middle of this. Obviously unproduced yet and very messy, but may get an extended version one day!

Started off with a short guitar snippet from a BarryDennen12 video (I think it was their Thief walkthrough, sorry I forgot!) and then added some Terrytoons trumpets from Police Dogged and Flebus. The detuned upright piano was a Kontakt instrument available online, and the bass is the Synth1 VST.

Thought I'd give Krita another try since last year it was disastrous. It still occasionally holds shortcuts down for me and forgets to switch to eraser sometimes, but the animation process really has potential. Way more accessible than TVPain(t).
I've been looking for a good program to "hybrid" my traditional animation with, and Krita's currently a good contender. Although I've not tried it with inking or colouring or anything complicated just yet. The fact motion tweens are going to have to b...

Another naturally-evolving weird tune, but I've learned a hell of a lot so far.
Using effects on the way in, Mid-side mic'ed piano, varispeed piano (to sound deeper), overdubbing, convolution reverb sends (from a clapperboard in the basement), there's a lot there. I'm going to have to get used to singing though. I think the only synth in this one's the x0xb0x doing the bassline.

This is usually how the first draft goes on, lots of rambling and corrections needed. Also some subjects I cover too much while others I cover too little. Any critiques are welcome!

Revisited this horrible thumpy racket, only this time continued in Reaper after exporting it from FL Studio with "split mixer tracks" ticked, so I can just plonk all the tracks in. Very handy! Obviously still not done, for the most part I've just been adding effects and changing the structure; the mix is still pretty off at points.
I'll probably work on a nicer song once I'm confident enough with Reaper to do more nuanced mixing etc.

Another blobby colour key concept, this time for the Starfox cartoon. I based this angle and colours from a photo I took while at Tesco's although now I think there's too much yellow, and the aisles will probably have a blue colour palette.

Getting into forming concept "screencaps", although it mostly focuses on colour and composition rather than a finished looking render (for instance I haven't got a clue what the horse should look like so I left him as a scribble). Now I'm deciding Knight Foxglove might be better in a less epic aspect ratio like 1.66:1 or something.
Sorry for the lack of posts lately, been quite busy! Currently doing an animation for Pencilmation, working on the Artist22HD Pro review, and figured out a way to g...

Timing might needs some work, but that stuff's hard to tell with the choppy motion.
Also it turns out the black video coming from my Logitech webcam (which I was going to use to pencil test) was a result of the BGA sensor chip, which seemed to not be connecting to the rest of the PCB properly. Looks like lots of people have been having the same trouble and are being asked to check their Driver Management and other bollocks. It's a shame 'cause their webcams make a pretty clean image.

I don't want to get out of practice with animation, so I'm animating the dragon from Disney's Reluctant Dragon doing a spit-take (inspired by a scene from RedLetterMedia's HITB), since I found a model sheet online to work from.

I saw an old Morris Minor police car and thought it'd suit my daft crime cartoon idea so I did a quick digital painting involving it. Wonky perspective, but I hardly planned this; I wanted to get straight into the colours!
Working in just one layer forces you to think about the colours you're using and that can help. It doesn't help if you want to start moving things about.

It's nice to see all the separate sequences finally joined together, but now here comes the hard part: getting rid of the naff bits, and making the good bits great. I reckon at least a third of this is going to need significant changes, or better yet, improved character development.
Any critiques, or even saying what bits are boring or poorly executed, is helpful!

Second go at oil painting, this time trying to capture the colour of skin from a photo. The result wasn't satisfactory since I'm yet to know how to even lay out a palette of oil paints. It always ends up mixed into a neutral mush! Still, I'm learning.

Even though some bits look impressive, the sheer lack of anatomy knowledge and cartoony fingers stick out like a sore thumb to me. I need to snap out of these habits, and know how things actually work! Still, probably some of the best shading I've done in a while.
It's based on a photo of Keijo Reiman I found in "Bodywatching" by Desmond Morris.

Never done oil painting before. Only the odd ink and wash or acrylic sponge experiment. So the fact the attempts didn't turn out a disaster was rewarding.
