Four Horsemen: Chapter 20

Chapter 20:

A shadow opened his eyes. Great claws flexed and relaxed. The shadow unfurled to his great height as tall as two men.

Crystals flickered around the cavern. In its middle lay a ritual circle carved deep into the stone. The reagent within its form shifted like liquid obsidian, shifting without a clear pattern.

Shadows, like insense spread from the edges of the inscription at the center of it.

At the edge of the circle, a shadow held a man kicking and yelling....

Chapter 19:

Petor woke as the light started breaking through the forest. He pulled himself out of his sleeping blanket.

Mya pinched the brow of her hat in greeting.

She been up all night?

Petor dressed and moved to the log she was sitting on, eating some berries and nuts.

“You been up all night?” Petor asked.

“Yeah, looks like I still don’t need sleep in this body.” Mya shrugged. “At least I can taste things again and I like eating. Mis...

Chapter 18:

Limos let out a choked laugh, his eyes focused on Desari.

Our bodies? Petor thought, his mind moving away from the gold he’d just earned and mentally putting it against what he could buy.

“Well, that’s an interesting story really.”

“One I believe you owe us for putting us in the midst of a coup against a god and a city getting sacked,” Desari said, lightly.

“I dabble in all kinds of trades with all kinds of people. There are cli...

Chapter 17:

“Should be just up ahead,” Mya checked the stars between the treetops.

Petor led them through the trees, he seemed to slip away amongst the trees having to pause and wave them forward.

They pressed through a last ring of trees, tightly packed around a small opening, moonlight poured down on them.

“Mirradon,” Petor called out, Mya stepped out into the opening, four horses turned to their entrance.

She felt a connection looking at the pale whi...

“Now give us a great big push,” Mya said.

“Are you sure about this?” Petor was holding onto the axle that connected to the front wheels, that was supposed to be connected to horses. Instead he was holding it up right in front of him like a ship’s wheel.

The main road ahead of them was filled with signs of fighting, groups were still actively fighting as horns blew across the city.

Fighters were clashing with one another and undead, water from the fount...

Petor stood and cracked his back. He’d adapted quickly to what Valter needed, doing the general cuts while leaving the detail to him.

He put the carving tool into the leather roll Valter had put on the altar and studied the pillar of celestial mana in the middle of the altar.

Valter stood up and essence flowed into Petor.

Mana surged towards Valter in a rush and quickly slowed.

“You increase your core?” Petor asked.

“Orange mixed with yellow,...

The bells had reached the cathedral, guards and priests were rushing everywhere within the compound surrounding the cathedral.

A man leapt out of the cathedral, the air cracking at his passing, glowing with celestial mana.

That’s a lot more mana than he had before.

“What was that?” Carl asked.

“I think that was Berox.”

“Miss, what is going on?” An alchemist asked the female priest.

“Champion Berox has ventured forth to me...

Four Horsemen: Chapter 13 Part 2 of 2

Valter drank from his canteen, looking at the altar, its motifs had been cleaned away, leaving it in its silver coated glory. Runes and lines traced through it, the metal plate underneath and across the walls creating a massive runic.

Stone masons and smiths rubbed their tired eyes, the last of the silver being poured into the cut grooves in the floors.

Bells tolled in the distance.

“Clear a path!” A guard yelled. People dropped to their knees in prayer as a man of blue ...

Petor was armed and armored, sitting in Desari and Mya’s room. Mya surveyed the city with her spyglass, focusing up the hill near the cathedral.

“Arresting adventurers in the middle of the night, taking the alchemists and smiths too,” Petor shook his head.

“Inquisition is out getting more than just a few people,” Mya lowered her spyglass “So what’s the plan?”

“I’m open to suggestions?”

Valter kept himself relaxed, moving his limbs to warm them up.

A path had been cleared through the remains of the cathedral, wooden fortifications had been thrown up hastily.

“Alright past this point you’re only allowed to take your tools. Use that cart there to stack them. If you have storage devices put them into one of the boxes and then you can pick them up after you’re done.” The guard leading them said, staring at Valter.

Desari awoke to someone hammering on her room’s door. They’d spent a few hours at the guild hall submitting their report, eating, getting some pay and then heading back to the inn.

Her eyes flicked over the room, calming her breathing and lowering the dagger in her hand.

Mya looked up from the book she was reading, hand on her pistol pointed at the door.

“Who is it?” Desari called out rising from her bed, slipping her feet into her boots. Thankful s...

Petor grabbed the stones remaining in the box and threw them over the wall

Another ladder reached the top of the wall. Petor threw the box over the wall and drew his spear, using the butt to push the ladder back and over.

The enemy had made it to the walls, giving the stone and shadow golems a wide berth. A siege tower was hit with a catapult’s payload, raining wood on those around it.

“They’re making it forward.”

“Push the ladders free!” Valter yelled.
