Live gaming plans & intro video sneek peeks!

Hello you fine folks,

So today saw the release of the final edited Elite gameplay video, but the results are in and 96% of you (and others) definitely said they want to see more in some shape or form. How nice!

I'll either do a live part 4 where everyone with tips can help out in the chat, or skip ahead to Elite II: Frontier on Amiga. I'm not sure yet, but we'll have fun either way. It's a great way for me to put out more content through the week, whilst also edit...

Early-bird: Elite Longplay - Part 1

Dear Supporters

Following the recent poll I'm temporarily moving to a more flexible schedule of ad hoc video releases rather than once-a-week only. The aim is to provide more content spread across each week to support patrons and the retro community with a sprinkling of entertainment at this time.

Before adding in some true live gaming I decided to get the Elite longplay edited and released first as t...

Live stream ideas?

Hi friends,

A few people have reached out about an idea I've been toying with this week. Actually, a few days ago I finished filming a "Longplay" episode of Elite, which I'll get out to supporters on early-access tiers this week. As there's no "ending" to Elite, in the video I mentioned the possibility of continuing that savegame with some online live gaming. But that would be next week, after it goes public on Saturday.

So what about this week? If you are ...

Early-bird: C64 Colour Fix!

Dear Supporters

Here's your next early access. This week we explore a Commodore electronics colour idiosyncrasy, and try to fix it... even though I'm colourblind. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

As you can tell, your early access has crept a little sooner in the week. Some weeks it might be even earlier, depending on when I get everything to a stage where it's ready to be seen, but Tuesday...

Dear Supporters

I've said in the past that our little channel is a true team effort. I also think it is important to take just a small moment to celebrate successes when they occasionally come along.

Well, our chess video from a short month ago just hit 300,000 views 🍻 This is by far a record for our channel, and I'm in awe that is it is also somehow more views than the top videos of some of my colleagues who have been running successful retro channels for twice as long 🀯...

Cris Blyth Interview + new finds

Dear Supporters

I said I might skip a video this week. Instead you've had two! πŸ˜‰ Team17 Worms developer Cris Blyth dropped by to answer some of your questions that you posed a few weeks ago. (Apologies if your question was not in here; we have had to cut some due to some commercially sensitive stuff and time constraints.)

Also overlaid during the interview are several of the new things that I found amongst the Team 17 files.

This might just might mark the end of the ...

Splash & Crack!

Dear Supporters

Here's some exclusive Splash & Crack action for you as promised (threatened?)

And you've got a couple of options:

1. Come with me for the attached video walkthrough (readthrough) of the mag and enjoy me reliving some of the genius (terrible?) jokes in it! There's also a few little bits of nostalgia and tidbits of info about my childhood that may help explain some of my later genius (madness) ;-) Video link:  2020-01-29 00:56:11 +0000 UTC View Post

Zzap!64 video title?

Something I probably put too much thought into it is finding the perfect title for videos. YouTube algorithms like keywords upfront, and people like things that are enticing but also honest and not clickbaity. A bit of a play on words can be nice too. In addition, it has to be quite short so it is not truncated when YouTube displays it.

With a great thumbnail AND title, a video can really take off instead of fade away. I have seen this happen with my past videos where I saw a vi...

Early-bird: Ladyfractic @ the Space Bar

Dear supporters

I've been working on a fun little documentary about the history of Zzap! 64 and my own attempts to "compete" with it in the 80s. I haven't been able to finish it for this weekend so instead here's an equally fun quick byte!

Perifact: This video features the last ever footage of Ashleyfractic that I shot in Walmart before she quit her job there.

And don't call the fuzz about the "eye injury" that you see at the end. In reality this was a burst blood vessel...

Caption Π―R videos

Dear Perifracteam

This is going out exclusively to patrons on your tier (no higher or lower). Although this tier doesn't include a credit at the end of videos, I'm looking for one regular patron to caption videos in English weekly (German would be good too), in return for a credit at the end, and in the description along with a URL of your choosing. With some videos now hitting over 200k views this could be of interest to one or two of you.

Captioning is easy. You just choose t...

Titanic fixed + small surprise

Happy new year dear supporters!

I've been finishing up Christmas with family in the UK and travelling back to California. I hope you had a lovely one! I didn't expect to put out a video this weekend, but as it happens a foolish mistake was pointed out to me!:

When I exported the Titanic footage and showed it (in a video that is approaching 100,000 views) nobody noticed that actually it was stretched from the native 4:3 to 16:9... not even Cris Blyth!

Here's a fixed version, ...

Early-bird: Raw Titanic footage

Dear Supporters

By popular demand I've been working on a little video sharing the raw Titanic footage captured directly from the Amiga 4000. This wasn't easy as I had to borrow another A4000 again, and buy a video capture device and S-Video converter. But here it is!
