They were doing some work on the hill near our house and a familiar looking friend showed up. I put together this as a silly little treat for you. 🔊 Sound on!
Speaking of friends from our past, back to trying to receive a program from the past!...

Sometimes I like to try fixing things using things that were never intended for fixing those things. Here's one such example. Hope you find it flippin' interesting.
This week we're filming The ЯRetro Show and I'll be continuing to experiment with the light transmission as I inch closer to success. There are so many little steps along the way (I won't stop till it works!) and here is a sneak peek of how they look in the editing software:

In 1985 the British TV show 4 Computer Buffs tried an experiment to broadcast a mysterious piece of free software using a flashing dot that viewers could receive using a home-made receiver - we're going to try to recreate the experiment today! Will it work?
Yes, I finally plucked up the courage to try what may be our biggest challenge to date. And I was right to be wary; this will need at least a Part 2, but I hope you love Part 1 as it's a ton of retro fun, and where we also meet shrun...

Sharing just with you this little unboxing and look at a custom made case I ordered in leather and yellow suede to compliment my "new" Ericsson R520m from that recent video. (If they had offered a vegan leather I would have gone for that FWIW.)
The case and video isn't sponsored but was ordered from: https://www.storyleather.com/sma...

Attached as your perk is our new issue of ZZAP! 64... well half of it at least, but that's still twice as good as other C64 mags 😅 Hope you love it. As always you're welcome to subscribe here (doesn't benefit me but does feel nice!).

I've been trying to solve this issue caused by the difference in US vs UK mains frequency for over a year, but when it seemed the US 60Hz was literally infecting or haunting my UK equipment it became clear I needed a rethink. So then I thought...

Update:
Well you guys already got my grey matter whirring and it seems a central theme is making the thumbnail and/or title more focussed on one appealing element, losing the AI, whilst also making it less apparent it's a "show" as people may just want to just watch a "video" (until we hook them in mwahaha!). To that end, I've made these tweaks which we'll try out. You may see either on YT as A/B testing is performed:
Updated with better colour grading & less vintage grain - thanks for your feedback!
I seem to say this most months now but this is a really fun one. I love the Reebok or Nike song, The Gallery in its slightly new format, and the end story particularly, but it's all a pleasure to make and put out into the world. God speed Retro Show #40!

Up until now The ЯRetro Show was filmed on 4 separate cameras (plus the monitor footage and mic file), and then all the 4K footage downloaded manually from each camera one by one, synchronised, and compiled into a multicam project in Final Cut Pro X. This could all be quite time consuming, inconvenient, as well often times unreliable.
Now there's a new way thanks to you! Welcome to our Retro Future!

Just a little Patreon only update here. Sometimes I don't notice things during filming or editing, until after a video goes public...
Now, keen eyed viewers of the recent BTTF video where I explore behind the Clock Tower facade, might have noticed that the original brick frontage seen above, was changed after 1985 to larger grey (faux) bricks:
But how did I miss that! See where one of the faux ...

(Update below from The 9-pin Guy)
I've connected to BBSs recently but only via Wi-Fi. Now I have the luxury of the real copper wire POTS phone line for the fax, I can try using the Commander X16's new serial network card to connect to a BBS just as we used to - via dial-up!

I'm so pleased with this one and it's a ton of fun. In 2004 Universal built a new clock tower to make the Back to the Future one less recognisable in other shows. But did they Save The Clock Tower behind it? Join me for one of my walkabouts where we discover just that!

This week I'm working on a video where I go back to Universal to try to discover if they "Saved the Clock Tower" behind the newer facade. Can't wait to share it with you.

In the intro KITT is again driving us to Universal, but... well you know that thing where you choke on your own saliva...? Yeah...

For your eyes only, I found something unexpected on some VHS tapes, a fleeting glimpse of one of my "retro" computer setups. Not my C64 or Amiga sadly (though I still hope to find something some day), but my Sony VAIO PC. This is the same desk that the Amiga sat on 5 years earlier.
To the right you can see my Korg Wavestation and Yamaha (Edit:) QY70 I believe.
Above is my family's original NAD amp and radio, a Sony cassette deck and CD player, Alesis EQ, and some other rack equi...

I'm so glad to bring this project to you. As you will see it's quite a major undertaking involving some rather nifty use of both phone hacking devices and Apple Shortcuts (you could do the same on Android with Tasker).
This project has brought me significant joy, allowing me to both time travel back to a retro phone I lusted after in 2001, and to become even more digitally minimalist when around Babyfractic, simply so I am always present and in the moment, not distracted by a large sma...

Things are still going a little slowly here as arrangements after Grannyfractic's passing persist, not least house clearance 😩 Unfortunately on top of it all Babyfractic was under the weather plus going through quite severe teething. I never realised just how bad that could be on the baby (and the parents lol)!
I have a really fun project to share with you next week but in the meantime, I made "a video that's not a video"...

We've worked long and hard on this (!) and here it is for your viewing pleasure - the first half at least, by orders of the big boss. Please enjoy much of Issue 20, including my Tech Bit in the Middle all about getting the 8-Bit computer online in 2024. I truly love being the Editor of this magazine that I worshipped as a kid, and I hope you enjoy what I'm doing with it today.
Thank you for your ongoing support 👍🕹️

Something I’ve been doing lately and enjoying very much is finding little portions of the real world that haven’t changed since the 80s for example these shots taken in Burbank Mall. By doing this it can make one feel as if they’ve stepped back in time, and yet it’s still right there today, which is somehow reassuring a sense.
Let me know if you’d like me to share more shots like this in… the future!

Good morning, everyone,
Grannyfractic passed away peacefully in her sleep early this morning at the age of 89. She had been dealing with health issues and recently underwent surgery, which unfortunately was not enough.
We are grateful she was able to meet her great-granddaughter Babyfractic and celebrate Mother’s Day with us. Her final moments were filled with love and thoughts of reuniting with her late son.
I think it's necessary for me to take a week off and pause full-...

Well, there was a bit more content for you this week after all, as I genuinely received a mysterious toll road penalty notice for my KITT car which apparently was driving on a road I have never driven down. What is going on?!
