The evening is fast approaching, so it was time to work on June's pajamas for the first night!

It's a fairly simple design that could almost look adult if it weren't for the cute little tiger head.

With a visual novel comes multiple choices and a lot of characters. To keep track of it all, I've started working with Twine. It's a software designed for multi-path storytelling, and it's pretty intuitive to use!

Here you can see an example of what it looks like for the evening of the first day. For now, it's pretty simple, but this will be very handy when we start branching out into more narrative paths.

June has to find something to keep the girls occupied while Sato is busy. There are a lot of clickable elements, so it took me more time than I thought it would. 

Some of the elements will trigger dialogue with Lola and Maddie, while others are pretty short narrative text.

And once you click on the puzzle, the next scene plays out!

A new set of sketches from Vaabs, this time it seems to revolve around some kind of... game show?

And another series, it's the famous Bunny show that Maddie can't stop talking about. If she's lucky, June might pick that as a television choice.

And that's about it! Next week, I'll probably divide my time between graphic work and scene integration in the game!

Working on the park! The background seemed a bit too monotonous; there was just a view of some plains and the enclosing wall of the facility. So, I decided to redesign it and replace it with a forest.

It was extremely time-consuming, but the park looks bigger and more alive this way.

After a few color studies... 

And here's the final result! As usual, every clickable element is on its own layer, so it can be exported separately. The swings, slide, spring horses, and seesaw will be clickable. 

After all the work on the background, there wasn't much time left to work on a lot. I modified a previous scene to apply the night filter (the one I was talking about last week). The interesting thing about this filter is that it can be applied to the background, the characters, or both. So, I can keep the special version of a nighttime background and just apply the filter to the characters.

I also worked on a scene in the living room with the whole "family". The discussion seems to revolve around the pull-ups June brought back from the shop. The scene plays differently depending on if June had an accident prior.

And that's it for today! Next week, I'll probably work a bit more on the next in-game scenes and maybe on more outfits!

One more background done! 

I worked on the sketch of Ms. Melrose's house and followed the usual process. 

First, cleaning and doing linework. 

Then flat colors and final render! 

These backgrounds always take a lot of time, but I'm generally happy with the result. 

I also continued integrating new scenes into the game. June goes upstairs to wake up her two "sisters". 

I found a way to use a filter in Renpy to create a nighttime effect over a scene. 

This will be very useful for the future because it means I won't need separate day and night versions for the backgrounds. I can simply apply this filter directly in game. 

It will save a lot of space for game files. And as you can see, this filter can be applied to sprites, which is perfect for setting the atmosphere in certain scenes. 

Maddie is not happy about being woken up by June. For this scene, I had to draw a new mouth for Maddie; I'm sure we'll see this expression again since it's probably not the last time Maddie shout at someone. 

And finally, some concept art from Vaabs for the upcoming illustrations. There will be an advertisement for a game show and a cartoon with rabbits (which Maddie is a big fan of).

Latest batch of work on the Hive!

Just like last week, I divided the work between sketching a background and refining Vaabs' pictures.

I started working on the park. I intend to make it a spacious area, so there will probably be three total areas for you to explore. I'm not satisfied with the background in the picture; instead of the wall and some distant forest, I'll likely replace these elements with a closer view of trees surrounding the park. This should convey the feeling that the park is larger than currently shown.

I also created a map of the Hive. Currently, it's a work in progress and will likely be used in the game as it is until a better version is available. 

Some locations are still uncertain. The petting zoo might be unnecessary. I'm also considering adding a small cinema, which could be fun, but I'm not sure how much it would be used and in what circumstances.

Finally, the latest series of sketches from Vaabs is complete and colored. It was incredibly enjoyable working on these, and we should collaborate again for another series in the near future!

And that's it for today! 

Next week, it will be time to line and color some backgrounds!
