Iceman Time-Lapse

Because I really liked the initial thumbnail on this one, I started by drawing directly over it so I wouldn't lose the gesture.  One of the problems I kept running into, was trying to make Bobby stand-out against the water behind him.  Some artists depict Bobby more white-ish, which would have solved my problem, but I was set on an aqua blue Iceman.  I think I made it work in the end by making the water in the pool mor...

Iceman - WIP - Body

Got some more progress on Bobby. It’s easy to get overwhelmed painting unconventional skin texture, so I decided to simplify my approach and paint it fairly normal and after this, I’ll go back in to add ice detail and maybe some more faceted, icy planes.

Also posted my reference model I posed in the Magic Poser App. It definitely helps me have more interesting lighting than if I was to make it up completely from my head.

Iceman - WIP - Face

Worked a little more on Bobby this evening. Mostly trying to figure out how I want to paint his ice body so I’m starting with the face.

For reflective/shiny skin, I like to just feel it out as I go. Play with hard and soft edges. Define some planes. Let other planes be less defined. It feels like a puzzle and I just mess around with it until I find solutions that work for me. I’m liking where it’s at right now, but once I render the body more it might change.

Iceman WIP

Finally done with my move which means I'm back at it again!  Thank you all for your patience while I was having a busy couple of weeks.  

I had such a hard time picking which Iceman rough to do cause honestly, I was into them all, but this one was the most popular and I really love the Wolverine cameo.

Had Akihiro on the brain, so I had to do a quick sketch before hauling more boxes.

One thing I'm grateful for on this move, is that it's just down the street.

Bobby Thumbnails

I can’t figure out which one I want to do! I really wanted to do Iceman in a swim/surf situation, mostly because I think he would be cute in a bikini and I like the contrast of ice and summer activities.  I am kind of digging the fireplace on though.  The idea there is that it that the ice bucket is made of ice and melts away for the spicy version.

Cyclops - Color WIP

Moving forward on with the colors.  This phase I try to get the anatomy stuff down best I can.  I want to get the body farther along before I get sucked into painting the face, which I can and probably will spend way too much time on.

Trash Pixie

Gonna share some other stuff while I make progress on Scott.  This is an original character I've been working over the past year.  I use to draw fairy folk a lot and I think it would be fun to make a group of pin-up pixies, imps, etc.  Maybe even do some mini comics stories with them.

Cyclops - Refined Sketch WIP

Working on next phase of Scott. This part can take me a long time as a fight between ‘accuracy’ and ‘feel’. I want to have solid anatomy and posing, but I don’t want to lose the initial gesture. At one point I spread his legs out more to make his stance more solid, but I felt like it lost the pin-upness. I eventually went back to a pose more like my original thumbnail.

I think I'm settled on B, which may or may not be inspired by a viral baseball booty moment.

Gambit(Painting Process)

These are my WIPs of the painting process from sketch to final.

1. I start off with a sketch, mostly figuring out the proportions, working the pose, etc.  I try not to get too caught up in detail at this stage because I'm going to redraw it anyway.

2. Next is my refined sketch.  Here I try to work out most of the kinks.  I don't always do this clean of a sketch, because I like to figure stuff out in paint, although that takes longer.  I have a hard time seein...
