There is an art prompt going around twitter about making dogsonas so when me and some friends met up, we decided to artjam with our dogsonas.
I wanted to try out different brushes for this one but I ended up with my pencil brush (which was, like, second favorite brush for inking) because I didn’t feel the other brushes I used haha. I did, however try out this pencil texture brush which looked nice when you shade over a lasso’ed section.
i’ll try adding canvas times for procr...

Here's a big one and it's d&d themed. I don't think I posted any of these here? (if I did I'm so sorry). A bunch of these are even from early last year haha.
I just love exploring the characters I made. Some interactions, some party inside jokes, the sorts. Some of these I didn't have the will or energy to finish haha

More con drawings! There were some down periods and my table mates were discussing ways to paint and it just made me miss it (a bit). I shortly realized I'm very rusty in terms of picking values and stroke economy. I kinda miss feeling frustrated with my lack of skill in a thing so I hope to do this more.
I also managed to try out some water color brushes and while they're pretty awesome, I don't see using them much for future work haha

So I wanted to try some new things to do for on-the-spot commissions. My friend used his ipad to do the sketch of the character and then just used the ipad as a lightbox for inking. I usually offer half-body commissions but I wanted to take it slow by just doing busts and focusing on facial shapes and features. It feels nice not needing to erase my undersketch haha.

Kinda felt obliged to make a new print for a con so here's a Steven Universe one with their new designs!

A quick and sweet one for you guys! I wanted to try out a different brush this time for this sketch. I kept in mind the sketch style of Mayumi Nose and Gop Gap while I was doing this. Being so used to semi-uniform line width, I'm not too used to this sort of brush haha
EDIT: Uploaded the higher res vid d'oh

I've been busy the past few days! Here are some sketches that I did to loosen up. I realized I don't do warm-ups as much as I think I'd get too enveloped in it haha. These are just done inbetween breaks

So I was in bed the other night and the weirdest things just pop in my head, like—“what if I made studies of Philippine wet market vendors but with anthropomorphic askals/aspins??”
I came across a friend on twitter posting photos of a wet market and I realized the visually interesting stuff they had like knife holsters, fans that swat flies away, fish wrapped in newspaper, the sorts.
What I liked about seeing the process here is that I only had to use one sketch layer before...

I know I mentioned that I was supposed to work on a comic this month for an upcoming art market this February, but things happen! I did happen to work on a single page, but that’s kinda deep into the story already so I’m posting a page I did.....a long time ago already??

Anyway, thanks for sticking around and for the support! I’m not as posting much as I did, but I’m ho...

Some more sketches of these guys from this month. I wanted to do some explorations and wardrobe of fairy dude's people. Most of these are very raw like....first sketch passes? I plan on cleaning these up, maybe for that artbook!

a process video of a drawing I posted a while back. I wanted to go with thinner line art with larger spot blacks. I think it looks good! i need to somehow optimize my sketching process though because wow I had 3 sketch layers before lining hahaha. You'll see many times where the whole thing goes black which is basically me seeing if there are any holes in my line art. Man I hope Procreate can just let me reference the whole canvas when filling colors :T

I don't think I've posted this stuff on here yet, but here are some old studies I did a while ago. Working on some projects, I realized I need to brush up on my technical drawing skills so I really need to do more of that perspective stuff without the need for rulers/line tools.
I also went back to drawing from life so I drew from photos and then drew them again this time with fixes that help make them more appealing. Not too happy with the male one though :/

I did a redraw of a sketch that was just a few months ago. My aim was to push the pose even further but I ended up failing with a weaker pose. I wanted to retain the energy of the initial sketch, but I failed in getting the forms/contours right. I then just merged what I liked about the two (encircled) and ended up with that last colored sketch. I feel like it's a stronger pose with both of the legs bent, but I wanted some asymmetry in it haha.
It's a bit frustrating to know you "wasted...

It's been a while since I did some quick notes but I encountered this tut by the Etherington brothers and I wanted to add some extra notes. Basically shifting the eyelids around according to the position of the iris can help push the appeal of eyes. It's a small thing but like all the subtleties, they add up! So instead of just shifting the irises around, consider the shape and direction of ...

i did the lining in Procreate and the coloring in Artstudio Pro.

Thinking of compiling, cleaning, and rearranging the stuff I have here about my magic folks project for that art book. Should I make a separate post type for this??
Anyhow, these are just random stuff I think about and just want to visualize. I don't know what came over me to make a model of fairy dude's teeth and what pulls his mouth but here we are.

Forgot to post these from last year but I sometimes miss some characters. They're from a comic I compiled back in 2014 (it's currently free/pay what you want).
It's nice to see how my design sensibilities and shape language have changed since then! What I personally like about their designs is how I've mana...

Happy New Year! Am a tad bit late for this wrap up as I'm still reeling from the holiday fever (Christmas and New Year lmao). A lot of realizations have happened this month maybe because of the upcoming new year. Honestly, basing on my expectations of 2018 and seeing what have happened, I have zero idea of what's going to happen this year! I'm very glad to have started this Patreon though! It's been my pleasure to write down my progress and being able to share it with all of you!

Kinda missed doing these things where I visually write/note down how I distribute my proportions. I feel the right most isn't quite there in terms of appeal, but it was a neat exercise nonetheless.

Was debating whether I put this under WIPs but these are more or less...dead? These are lying in my Procreate and haven't been touched for quite some time. My energy to finish these are most likely dead at this point. But who knows? Maybe I'll get back to either of these and not just call them sketches any more.

Wanted to do a lineless style for this one and push my proportions a bit. I dug deep and channeled my inner Nico Marlet as I always wanted to study his proportion style. Here's a step-by-step of how I went through with drawing it! I realized I usually take lesser sketch passes when I do lineless art as I tend to fix the forms through the shapes instead of worrying about the accuracy of the lines. I actually wanted to thro...

I feel that making silly versions/drawings of your characters helps push emotion, expression and acting even if they're acting way out of their personality. Bottom-line though it's just real fun but I think it helps me discover characteristics and possible and hidden personalities. I usually take inspiration from OK KO for their ridiculous expressions.

This show kinda popped in my mind randomly so I decided to draw them. I just wish I didn't take so long with it because I tried doing flats and coloring all in Procreate. If I did this in Artstudio Pro I think I would've saved 15 or 20 minutes of coloring. In procreate, I need to manually draw in the fills because my line art is full of holes -_-
Artstudio on the hand, I can reference the whole picture and just cover my holes in the flats layer. Ah well! Enjoy this process video!

This is going to be a sort of blog post about my recent trip to Malaysia, namely to Furum 2018!
I've been away for the past week as it was my first time attending an international event. I've always wanted to sell my art/works in one so earlier this year I decided to join FURUM. I was actually planning on doing Comic Fiesta as well but the con was a bit too far from FURUM as they're usually one week apart (this year it was two!) and it was also too near Christmas for us. Hopefully next year!

Here's a process video of my lining process for this pokemon team drawing. I colored this in Artstudio Pro so I didn't get to record that process (d'oh). Coloring is actually a bit cumbersome at the moment for Procreate since I'd have to switch layers if ever there's a hole in my lineart. Artstudio on the other hand, I can just reference the whole canvas and fill the holes with the base colors. Kinda like Photoshop
Nothing too fancy with the colors except I tweaked them with the Color Balance ...

This month was literally a fever dream (I had the coughs for 2 weeks!!). It seems to have gone so fast, it's December already!
So a few days ago, I tried to stream drawing on the ipad using both its in-built streaming feature, and the Streamlabs app. Both seemed really good on paper especially the app since you can broadcast the whole screen, but alas--my internet connection is currently not fit for streaming (it's upload speeds are ABYSMAL). Hopefully I'll get to upgrade my internet onc...
