I’ve been a bit busy the past few weeks but here are some pages I sketched. I feel like I’ve been in the perpetual state of “figuring stuff out” so a lot of these sketches are a bit messy. Some of the projects I’ve been working on for a bit got me in a small existential crisis because of the absolute power and skill the people I worked with had. It’s a nice reminder that I still have so much to learn and grow.

It’s never too late to pick up something new over the quarantine so i decided to get over my fear for CSPs intimidating UI. I admit that aside from the lack of a liquify tool, Clip Studio Paint is, in theory, the best software for sketching for me. Vector layers! The smart filling tools! It feels bad to have slept on them.

Kinda forced myself to finish this because it was rotting in my files for about a year now (and I miss the beach). What really stopped me from continuing this was getting the seafoam forms right which was my number one priority when I tackled this again. Going through some files and I remembered I was meaning to think a bit on how I handle comics pages. Since I kinda shelved this comic for about more than a year, my thumbing and sketching habits were a bit more rough. This part in the story has a little bit of action and while my thumbs were a bit dated when I picked this up again, I still appreciated the thought past-me put into this page in terms of composition.

Aside in assisting in construction, form, and thinking in 3D, I feel planes are a nice stepping stone to eventually using your own shapes in figuring out planes for character design.

Developing our tastes for all kinds of art broadens our range on what different people like. It also helps in opening a lot of possible techniques and styles to try out and incorporate into our own art.

Some more sketchpages I’ve been doing. I’ve been keeping stuff loose and rough for these, trying out colors, brush settings, weird proportions, not relying on construction, the sorts. Some of these I’m happy how they’ve turned out while some....not so much. Gonna see if I can refine some techniques more. I think i’m getting the hang of the watercolor brushes!
