Can a sweet young transformee outwit the Mafia, the US Army, the moneyed landowners and politicians -- and The Devil in Drag! -- in wartime Las Vegas?
"You'll know that you're dead when I tell you so! Bang! Bang!" the Devil said.

Dad and Fooler came home about ten-thirty. Linda had been left to play with Mrs. Pattinson's daughter next door. "She'll get lunch and a nap there," Dad said. "One of us can go fetch her back about two."
I was sitting on the couch next to Donna and had Mom's beige blouse wrapped around me, and Donna and I had arms around each other's waist.
Dad smiled when he looked at us. "You two look adorable," he said, which made me squirm and protest. "Dad!"
Donna protested too. "Daddy!...

I’m not sure how they did it but the three women got me stood up then lying again on the examining table with folded blankets under head and foot while Granny again took my vitals.
Dr. Verre was apologetic. “I’m so sorry, Miss Hunter. I had information I wanted to give you but I wasn’t properly recognizing the emotional impact this would have on you.”
I blinked at her, not sure just how I felt about what had happened. Once in a junior league soccer game after heading the...

Donna’s bedroom was smaller than mine by perhaps half a foot, but it had a bigger closet. Being a corner room, she had more windows than I did, too. It was a nice room with the walls painted a soft dusty rose and a brighter, pinker ceiling. The sun coming in reflected off two large mirrors and filled it with light.
My room, by contrast had pale lavender gray walls, a blue ceiling and only one big window over my bed. Linda’s room, the smallest, between ours, was done in greens and ye...

I wandered around the studio lot for some time before I figured that the music I kept hearing came from the row of old television sound stages. Melrose Film and Sound had leased their stages to the networks and some of the large television producers for decades, all while carving out a niche market as the affordable option for small production companies and independent television producers.
Some of the smaller streaming services had their real homes here.
But for someone like me, ...

Daniel's co-eds are pretty cute, don't ya think? :)
And Inkypus's comments continue in world balloons. :)

Granny measured and weighed me again. Still 5’7” but I’d lost a couple of pounds. I might have to go back to lifting weights which I hated. My temperature, blood pressure and pulse rate seemed to satisfy her.
Then she got personal. “Have you started your period?” she asked.
“No,” I answered sharply. She made a noise like a chicken clucking.
“Doctor thinks you will sometime in the next week to ten days,” she supplied. “Any cramps, bloating, swelling of you...

Mom brought me a robe in the kitchen, where I set out the makings for hot cakes on the kitchen counter. The item was one of mom’s, of course, pale blue with embroidery at the hem, collar and cuffs. At least it wasn’t pink. It did cover me up better than the loose pajama top after I pulled the belt around and tied it in a big loose bow.
I’m several inches shorter than Mom, so the robe almost reached the tops of my feet.
“Hee hee hee,” Linda giggled, pointing at my feet. I...

A surprising turn in the story that wasn't there in my original outline, but when I got to this point in the scripting, it seemed obviously needed.
This is a highpoint for our hero(ine). Q has defeated and escaped the enemy with a big of help, or at least forbearance, from the inside. But no one has yet made a plan for resolving the situation.
Daniel did some nice work here with the sunrise, and I particularly like Inkypus's expression of snark in the last panel. :)

We got out of there, heading for Jake’s truck. Down in another part of the parking lot, we could see Jake and Joanna standing near her car in some sort of intense discussion.
“I-I hope that’s not about me,” I murmured to Megan as I helped her mount the driver’s side of the big truck.
“It probably is,” said Megan so off-handedly that I almost missed a step climbing in behind her. I got behind the wheel, and she scooted over next to me.
“That’s not reassuring...

There are so many stories I would like to write, and will not get the time to do so.
Time on two scales. I'm 74. I've been writing since I was 10. It's unlikely I will get another 64 years to write all the stories I have in me. That's a macro-scale time.
On the scale of immediate time, I have 8 to 10 hours in a day, so 50 to 60 hours a week. Of that, I generally manage to spend 5 to 10 hours a week writing. That doesn't always mean productive hours, though. Sometimes I delet...

We kept shooting until we started to lose the light, and Rusty called a halt a bit before seven. By then, I wasn’t on so much of a high and being glued into a costume had definitely begun to lose whatever appeal it might seem to have. I needed to get back to Wardrobe and use the solvent to release me from my Space Babe persona.
I didn’t relish a long walk in my high heels but Doug and his convenient golf cart seemed to be nowhere in sight. The Melrose Studio lot is huge and the East...

I don't know where I came up with "Pretty Britches" as an endearment from, but you have to admit that normally Inkypus has a good view of them.
The backgrounds of the ruined church were something Daniel worked hard on. He even made a model of the building out of popsicle sticks, though he may have done that just for fun.

The idea that Ydde would decide that Q had a key to letting him create better monters tickled me and this page is key to how the whole story worked out.
And I love the sassy Quillian in panel one.
Daniel laid this page out with little input from me. I hadn't even written all the dialog when he showed it to me.

A couple of phone calls in the morning arranged things for me to take Tuesday afternoon off school, though Coach Wilson wanted me there for any part of practice I could make it to.
"We've got to get you and Dave synched up on the plays," he insisted. I could see his point. Tuesday was one-third of the time we had before the Friday game. I didn't relish having to do my little routine to get a shower. Hmm? What if I just arranged to come home for a shower?
I might be able to work th...

Mom asked if I wanted to go home before the Hendersons came back. It was almost ten and they should be back soon. I didn’t want them to see me wearing a bra. So I nodded, “I wanna go home,” I said, crying again.
She cuddled me. “Okay, but you can’t walk through the neighborhood this late, even if it is only two blocks away. It’s two long, dark blocks; if you don’t go through the alley, it’s more like four blocks.” She pushed me back a moment so I could see her face. ...

The boss villain finally shows up!
This story was actually inspired by one of the first Batman stories and the career of the first of Batman's recurring villains, Dr. Hugo Strange. Strange was in the business of creating monsters and crime waves and back then, Batman killed his villains instead of keeping them in insane asylums. Strange managed to survive though, and keeps coming back to this day. We'll have to see what happens to his avatar, here. :)

I managed to escape without going back through the boys’ locker room; the coaches’ corridor has its own entrance and exit. Megan was waiting for me looking crisp and cute in her denim capris and a tied top, Elly May Clampett-style.
I had to grin at her, and when I held my arm up, she snuggled under it. We kissed, just a peck because we were still on school grounds, but it felt nice. It was as it had been for a moment, but then she asked, “You haven’t forgotten, have you?”

I actually wrote dialog for the monsters, repeated it to myself in monster voices until it lost meaning, then I wrote it down.
The careful placement of a word balloon at the right of panel two and Inkypus's comment about it was based on a joke between Daniel and I on whether or not he would draw a monstrous, flanged, and spiked penis there. :D

Chapter 1
Carmody Jackson sat at the kitchenette table in the little apartment he shared with Ryan Poole. “I don’t understand it,” he said. “College wasn’t supposed to be just like high school.”
“Huh?” said Ryan, distracted by a game on the tablet computer in his hand.
Carmody amplified his complaint. “I mean, I’m clean, straight, sober. I’m not bad-looking. Why does every girl I ask for a date turn me down?”
“Eh,” Ryan grunted. He tapped a ...

We got loaded up with too much homework at school on Friday, but since I had a babysitting job for the evening, I thought I would just knock it out there and be free for the weekend. It wasn't interesting stuff, math exercises and a short history essay, but it wasn't hard either.
