2018-06-15 04:42:26 +0000 UTC View PostHere's a new simple math rock triad etude. This one keeps working on string skipping while focusing on our math rock triad harmony.
It should also give you guys some interesting ideas about moving bass notes around.
Cheers!
2018-06-05 00:42:21 +0000 UTC View PostHere is the sheet music for my "String Skipping Etude #1. If you'd like the tab version then please see the previous post.
Here's a tab for a fairly advanced exercise / riff that I wrote. I actually use this is part of my live solo set but it also makes for a really good picking exercise.
I'll be making a video on this riff in the future but the tab has some instructions on how to play it. This riff calls for a combination of sweep, hybrid, and alternate picking.
Good luck!
2018-05-30 04:52:23 +0000 UTC View PostHere's a tab to a riff that I've written which will be featured in a new video. This riff can be treated as an exercise to help you guys develop more full tapping arrangements (especially in the context of solo guitar, or in a situation where the guitar is the only harmony instrument). This riff focuses on developing a distinct bass part and treble part. At the same time it also makes an attempt to demonstrate some independence between the left and right hand.

2018-05-16 18:11:30 +0000 UTC View PostA tab for some content that I'll be releasing soon. This little line has some nice melodic movement and is great for practicing legato stuff.
2018-05-02 06:05:29 +0000 UTC View PostHey! I put together some exercises that I've found to be really useful for training up an alternate picking technique. See below for the attached tabs and guitar pro files.
If you can practice these regularly I really think these will help you guys out.
Cheers!

2018-03-07 00:33:58 +0000 UTC View PostI've put together two pages of tabs that are loaded with tapping rudiments / exercises which are essential to learning the two hand tapping technique.
These little rudiments compose a large deal of the basic concepts behind writing tapping riffs. If you learn and master all of these little ideas, you should be able to to apply them to riff writing.
2018-02-24 06:03:34 +0000 UTC View PostThis chart will give you guys some alternative chord voicings to the classic 1-3-5-b7 dominant chord voicing. Moreover these will be appropriate for math / emo and post rock.
And if you don't want to play dominant chords as the 5th chord in the major scale, then I've also provided some suggestions for alternative chords you can use.
Cheers,
Trevor

I made a little Etude that utilizes some of the triads from my "Essential Triads for Math Rock" document. This should get you more familiar with the sound of these triads in a chord progression. They should also challenge you with a medium difficulty arpeggio pattern.
Hope you guys have fun learning this!
2018-02-17 05:08:44 +0000 UTC View PostI was working on this with a Skype student tonight. This is a simple little rhythm that I use to help students feel out a syncopated groove. See attached for a tab and guitar pro file.
2018-02-17 04:46:10 +0000 UTC View PostHey guys, sorry for the absence. I still exist! I've been busy preparing for an audition to a jazz program in Vancouver. I did the audition and it went swimmingly! I got in!
Anyways, since I haven't been so active this month with posting I still want to do something for you guys ASAP. I'm thinking a Q and A video just for Patrons or maybe a live YouTube thing? What do you guys think? What time works best for you guys?
Maybe we can do this on a weekend or something?
2018-02-17 01:39:10 +0000 UTC View PostAs the title says. This is a supplement to my latest video on DAEAC#E major chords. See attached.

2018-01-13 01:58:09 +0000 UTC View PostA little early preview of this weeks lesson / the critical notes from it.
For each tab, the title number (ex 5/4) refers to the string number followed by the finger number. So, looking at the first number, 5 refers to the second lowest string on the guitar (A). The 4 refers to the 4th finger. In this case, the 4th finger is the finger that we should use to play the first note for this particular scale position.
So again, the first number in the scale pattern title refers to the str...

I don't think I'll be uploading anything to YouTube this week. Work is very busy right now and I'm spending time in the recording studio this weekend. However, my schedule should open up next week meaning I have time to film and edit stuff. I have some super cool video concepts on the way include a film on essential math rock chords, my studio Vlog, and maybe another practical music theory video. I'm excited and my eyes are gunna bleed from staring at a computer screen for hours and...

This document goes into a bit more detail than what I covered in the video so I suggest reading this even if you've seen the footage. In any case, it provides you with some notes which should make digesting what I talked about easier.
Let me know if you've got any questions,
