I felt obligated to do at least one Christmas song this year... so I kinda just did this. 

FAIRLY ODDPARENTS THEME - Metal cover

This was another one of the genius Jack (ToxicxEternity) Fliegler's brilliant ideas where he was basically like, "Jon here's a crazy arrangement of the fairly oddparents theme" and I was like, "Let's go boiiii".

There's a few quirky little arrangement sparkles that we threw in, and as always, Jack's shredding is brilliant. A quick little cover, but fun to sing and nice to switch it up and try a nickelodeon opening.

Spooky Scary Skeletons - METAL COVER

This one was crazy fun. Jack (ToxicxEternity) always absolutely kills it whenever we work together, and this was no exception. He arranged the whole instrumental and I took his recordings and mixed it all up with my drum samples and whatnot, then threw down some sPoOooOoopy vocals - I thought I was going to need at least 5 layers of vocals in order to make it sound thick and scary enough, but I swiftly realized that the song sounded better with only one vocal layer, similar to the original with ...

Emporer's New Clothes (Metal Cover)

This was a super fun halloween-y cover with Producer Extraordinaire, Lee Albrecht. It's nice to be able to sit in the passenger seat for at least part of the cover production process when I'm so busy with other things this month (see new update video regarding my new studio!!) and Lee always kills it, bringing super heavy instrumentals and great mixing to the table whenever I work with him. Monster Mash ~ Pop Punk Cover

Turning music that's more than 50 years old into pop punk is always weird. This was a cool and quick cover since I didn't have to sing that much, and doing the low villain voice is always fun :3

My Hero Academia - Singing to the Sky (full english cover OP3)

This cover was weird.

Like I mentioned in this Patreon feed before, the opening cover prior to this one (Peace Sign OP2) was outside of my comfort zone initially, but then seemed to turn out very organic and natural -
This cover was the opposite. I thought that given the original song, it would fit my own "style" very well to cover this song, but I ended up finding that I was struggling to find my groove more than I was with Peace Sign.

EYE TO EYE (Disney's Goofy Movie) - Jonathan Young cover 2017

I've been dying to start the process of getting perfectionist self-imposed redemption by re-recording and releasing of covers (particularly Disney) that I recorded prior to 2016.

I'm hoping that as I re-record these songs that I feel I fell short of doing justice to several years ago, I can re-compile the new releases into albums that are more suited to genre preference, rather than chronological cover release date. (i.e. a Disney Villain Metal album, instead of Young Does Disney 2017). <...

Immortals - Fall Out Boy (Pop Punk cover)

This was actually a pretty quick and easy cover to put together. As far as videos I've done in the past several months, I think this is one of the best examples of an instrumental track where I pull out a lot of tricks from my sleeve to create an arrangement that feels like "standard" jonathan young treatment (...for better or for worse).

Not every cover can be a wildly unique and fresh adventure, nor does every song I cover warrant "special" treatment. This was fun to put together nonet...

Phantom of the Opera - The Point of No Return (METAL COVER)

This arrangement was a serious challenge!

The original broadway bridge of this song where Christina makes her vocal entrance is soooooo operatic, it's difficult to replicate in any context other than orchestral, not to mention the length of the drawn out meandering, haunting vocal melody really kills the momentum of a metal cover.

I ended up cutting that bridge in half and using a clean guitar sampler to create the same haunting vibe, but as a brief change of pace from the chuggi...

PRINCE OF EGYPT - "Playing With the Big Boys" (METAL cover)

Had a great time putting this together with the crazy talented guitarist/producer Lee Albrecht and my good friend Caleb Hyles!! We tried to take the production quality on this up a notch from my normal videos, and it was a fun challenge adapting a song that original is so fluid and broadway-esque in it's tempo changes into something barbaric and evil.

The Mob Song (Disney's Beauty & the Beast) METAL COVER

This one was so much fun. Alejandro (AHmusic) absolutely killed it with this dark and frantic instrumental, please show him some love! The breakdown gave me chills the first time I heard it.
