Bad news

My father passed away this morning. I am heartbroken, but trying to hold it in for the sake of my mother.

I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't know if I'm going to take time to mourn, or if I'm going to get back to work right away.

But there will be a delay for the next couple of days as we deal with this.

I've been quiet this month. I took a small vacation, and now I am doing 8 pages at once. It's fine, because the Clip Studio method is pretty quick, but I just have my nose to the grind stone to make sure I make my deadline. That means there is going to be a huge update next week or the week after. I also owe a commission and that will hopefully be part of the update. Toph Heavy Part 3 - Page 28 - Final

This is the first page that I've done entirely in Clip Studio Paint. I only made some color adjustments in Photoshop and added text.  What do you think?

Toph Heavy Part 3 - Page 27 - Final

Sorry for the delay the past couple of days. This page was lost after 3 days of work, and so I had to do it all over again. I decided after I finished it that I was done working in photoshop. If anything, photoshop will be for color editing and text. That's it. It's just a buggy and unreliable program that does a couple of things so well I can't get rid of it.

Just so you guys know, I am aware that the sketches for Part 3 were leaked. Basically, the leaker sent me a DM asking for future plot points of Toph Heavy while posting "spoilers" publicly on a separate account with the same dumb comment over and over. I'm behind by like 5 or 6 pages, so in order to hustle a little bit, I flatted almost the entire Chapter. There are two more pages to go, and I'll finish flatting those sometime tonight. Then I'm going to do a commission this weekend. Starting Monday I'll be doing like 5 to 6 pages at once, and hopefully complete them all throughout the week.

The main reason I did this redraw was because the Toph on Page 22 looks so good that the page following it look bad didn't sit right with me. What do you think of the past four pages? I'm actually behind schedule by about three pages. I'd prefer to be ahead.  I've been spending too much time on individual pages. Fixing mistakes from like two years ago is exhausting. Personal drama isn't helping either. I'm going to hunker down and try to do a bunch at once. I may be a little less communicative while I do it though, but I'll make up for it.

Toph Heavy Part 3 - Page 22 - Final

So I completely redid this page. It's similar to the original, but tells the story better. Toph looks on model (for this comic) and I like how it turned out a lot more than the original page. The only thing I'm unsure of is the sound effects. I may remove the "gloop gloop." What are your thoughts?

I think I'm probably going to redo parts of the next page as well for the sake of consistency. 

Page 22 Render Progress - 2

Apologies for not finishing this page by Thursday. There was a family emergency the past two days and that has taken up all of my time.

I really liked this redo illustration of Toph in the bottom right but it was being obscured so I removed a panel, and moved the illustration to the top. Last week I had a computer error where I lost a ton of work. I knew if I started again that I'd be trying to recapture what I lost, and I'd ultimately be unhappy with it. So I decided to change something. I included the old page for comparison.

Toph Heavy Part 3 - Page 21 - Final

So remember how I said that there were going to be two pages? Well, that's not happening. Photoshop crashed while I was saving page 22, and I lost a week's worth of rendering progress. I try to open the file and it says that it's not the right kind of document. It's just completely broken.

What I find especially infuriating, is that this is not the first time this has happened. It probably won't be the last.

Now, I want to nip a couple of things in the bud if you don't mind. ...

There may not be a page on the patreon this week. If there isn't, there will be two next week. We had a huge storm roll through this past week. It lasted four or five days. (I lost track) and left this behind.

On top of this snow fell off of the roof and damaged the pipes on the outside of my house causing leaks in freezing weather. Fun. So between shoveling the snow, breaking ice, ...

This was supposed to be done on Thursday, but we had a three day winter storm that kinda pushed everything back.  I think that since the release schedule is now much more lax, I'm going to give myself a week or two after a page has been posted to refine it. Often, I don't really notice what's wrong until I post.

Upcoming Page 18 adjustment

Just as I was laying my head down to sleep after being up for over 24 hours, it finally hit me what was bothering me about this. The hands.

So if you look at page 16 you 'll notice that I redid Hippo. I made him bigger after getting some reference from the show. However, the new hippo of page 16 did not jive with the old hippo in Page 17. So I decided to redraw him, but he was too big. So I decided to shoot for this feeling of Toph being swallowed up by him. I'll admit, this is all in an attempt to get an ugly bastard tag.
