I LOVE EELS

Not sure if I had mentioned it or not, but the Cobra Eel was one of my favorite figures when I was a kid. I'm sure someone else has already done these but I had to do some of my own. It was worth waiting for the figure to be in hand so I could work the existing air tubes from the helmet into the design. Test prints are going, if its all good I'll post the files here later this weekend. 

I intend to sell prints of these on my Etsy store, but probably not the files.

More ASP Stickers

My second round of ASP stickers arrived today. I’ll put them up on the Etsy store tomorrow morning.

Hydro-Sled .stl files

Attached are the .stl files for the 1:12 (Classified scale) Cobra Hydro-Sled. There are several variations of the torpedo. One is hollow for resin printing. One is solid and one is hollow with a slightly smaller connection point (+.15mm) in case you find them to be a bit loose. 

Test Prints Are G2G!

Resin and FDM test prints are done. I've made a few minor tweaks and I will have the files uploaded here shortly. 

I designed and ordered some stickers and should have them in a week or two. If they are good I'll order some more to sell on Etsy.

Cobra Hydro-Sled Renders

I did some renders of the Cobra Hydro-Sled. As you can see I stuck pretty close to the toy. Scale allowed me to make the harpoon gun a bit nicer. I also left out most of the detail on the sled below the shield. You cant really see it and I think it may have been especially tough to print on the FDM machines. 

The Hydro-Sled has a fair amount of surface texture in the form of ribbed lines. I'm curious to see how that prints on the CR-10v3 (FDM). If you are a FDM printer that sands d...

On The Nose

Here is the Classified Python Patrol Officer posing with the Conquest X-30 nose cone. This sucker failed on me the first time that I tried to print it. I had it oriented on the build plate in such a way that the suction ripped it off the supports about halfway thru the print. 

As much as I cant wait to see the Conquest fully printed to see how big it is, I am very curious to see how much the resin print ends up weighing. I am mildly concerned that the resin landing gear will collap...

Hey everyone! Some of you may have seen the thread in the G.I. JOE 3D Printing Group about the Cobra Hydro-Sled. Back in I think April (before the Eels were announced) I knocked out about 95% of the Cobra Hydro-Sled over a weekend. I thought that it looked pretty basic and should go fast. CONQUEST X-30 HUD

I've created a control panel for the cockpit of the X-30. There will be an optional Heads Up Display (HUD) so you can print the piece with or without.

This was a test for the X-30 cockpit seat I did a while ago to ensure a good fit. A lot of the Classified figs have holsters and knife sheaths on their hips or thighs which makes designing a universal cockpit seat essential. This was before all the buttons/panels/switches were added.

I'm finally happy with the front landing gear. 2 important notes:

1. This thing will be HUGE.

2. This thing will be heavy.

Tweaks and stuff

The landing gear in the front has decided to be problematic. Its all tolerances and materials. Its a real challenge making a functional part that should work with resin or FDM. PLA has just a bit of flex/give that makes pivoting pieces much more forgiving.  

I've decided to do the conquest as more separate parts. For example the nose cone and the machine guns in this pic are all separate pieces. This should make it easier for painting or printing in different colors.

The stickers I made for the ASP sold out rather quickly. Does anyone still need some? 

I ordered stickers for the Conquest and Python Conquest a while ago, I'm fairly confident that they are good to go but want to check them against the final print before I order any more. 

So, if you are interested in stickers for the Conquest would you rather I ordered them as a set or individually (one set JOE / one set Python Patrol)?

Mobile Armored Strike Command

The Condor definitely had the most interest. 

I started the Conquest print with 2 consecutive failures. Its time to change the FEP on the Elegoo Jupiter. I have to say the Jupiter has been an absolute work horse since I got it. I am impressed that the FEP has lasted this long. Unfortunately I now have a good couple hours of maintenance ahead of me. I HATE changing FEP. Dialing in the tightness will Absolutely make or break how well the machine operates.

What's next?

I have been planning for some time to do the Cobra IMP as my next 1:12 scale design for the Patreon. I was hoping to have Sean Cho (XeroProps/MisterXero) as a guest on the G.I.JOE 3D Printing Podcast first so I can get some tips on making 3D printable working treads first. However, Sean wont make it back on until August at the soonest. So I am thinking of doing the M.A.S.K. Condor or the J.T. Marsh's EXO SQUAD suit in 1:12 scale. What do you think?

JOEFEST 2023

Another JOEFEST is in the history books and this was by far  my best show to date. It was great to finally meet some of you and put names with faces. 

I head to Texas in just a week for the DFW JOE SHOW. If you are in the area definitely come by and say hello. 

Once I return from Texas I'll get the Conquest test prints started. With a little luck those files will be read for you by the end of the month.

Head Scans

Hey Folks! I'm working hard getting ready for JOEFEST 2023. This year I will be offering Head scans/custom action figure heads at the show. I've just about got all the bugs worked out of my process. Heads will be available for 3 3/4, 4, 6, 7, 12 inch. Whatever you need. 

Pictured is a bit of a prototype. My first run thru the process. I did this one at 1:6 scale to give my eyes a break. I'll have more sizes worked up soon.

Update and stuff

Hey everyone. Its just less than 6 weeks until JOEFEST. This month I'll be working hard to get some inventory built up while also pushing HARD to get my contribution to the first 6 Operation Recall figures finished up. I'm very close to being finished with the 3D design of the Conquest and starting test prints. I'm not sure if I will have time to print it in resin before JOEFEST. Fingers crossed.

Classified Scale ASP Sticker Sheets Have Arrived

Howdy. The sticker sheets that I ordered are here. I am waiting for some envelopes that I have ordered to arrive before I can ship them. With that said, here is the plan.

For my own sanity and to make it a bit easier for myself, I'm going to put these up on the Etsy store on Saturday morning (April 15th). As soon as I do I will post the link to the item here on Patreon. The envelopes are expected to arrive on Monday so I will begin shipping stickers on Tuesday.

Conquest Progress

This thing is SSSSSSSOOOOOOOO much simpler than the ASP. I have the basic shape of it. I should have time to start fine tuning it this weekend.

ASP Stickers

I've been getting a lot of inquiries about stickers for the ASP. Ultimately I'm just not comfortable sending out the art that I created in Adobe Illustrator. I'm really not very interested in becoming a sticker broker either but here is what I propose. I will order several sticker sheets and if you are interested let me know and I can sell them. Whats next?

We have just about 10 weeks to go until JOEFEST 2023 in Augusta Georgia. I need to focus up and start getting ready. That said, I was going to design a Classified scale COBRA IMP as the next project but I really want to have more Python Patrol representation at my table so next up is the Conquest. Its going to be a big boy so I'll design the main fuselage to be split into 3 pieces.

Resin Print Complete

This is the finished resin test print of the ASP. There are some large pieces here so it took  about a week to print on the Jupiter. The final files are just a bit bigger with a little more room for the gunner. This was one of the very first G.I. JOE toys that I had as a kid and I absolutely loved it.
