Progress Report

Sorry it's been so long since the last update. Unfortunately I'm still struggling with a couple areas that are badly needed before the next update, which is a lengthy story event in The Penitentiary, and (of course) The Mines. 

Here's a list of what I need to do before the next update: 

The Blackwood: 90% (needs Lightlocks and a small sub area)

The Mines, Levels 5-10: 10% (I finally decided on a good design for the levels. Still needs monsters, bosses, loot, decor, etc..)...

Blackwood stuff, and Happy Thanksgiving!

I just finished the 2nd boss for The Blackwood. Just one more to go! Of course there's also The Blackwood Manor, but I'll get started on that after I finish up with The Blackwood and Penitentiary, since it's really like a whole new area. It really needs some snazzy puzzles to spice things up. :D

Well actually there's 4 bosses in The Vinery, but one of them is circunstantial. I also revamped Harlequin in The Vinery (sudden TB fight, so save often while exploring The Vinery), and his old room is...

Cover picture updated!

 Mavis finished Charlene and the background, so here's what we have so far.  

There's still Vallerie and Clarinda left to do, and the image will change (characters moved around) during the game's development. I'm pretty happy with it, even as it is. Looking forward to getting the other two kids on there, but it'll have to wait about a week (Mav is rather busy with stuff right now).

The harp is a little bit of a spoiler, but not too much, I think. 

I was considering leaving off her dress because I liked the design of her undies so much, but she just looked too naked without it. xD  I think the sheer nightie worked out very well.

There's a few small changes I'd like made to Nadie. I'd like her face to be a little smaller, and her hair to be more curly. She also needs a dark glow around her left hand (right side of pic), similar to the glow effect he placed on Sienna's lantern and wand.

I had to leave after approving the line version. I kinda wish she could have had a softer, more petite look to her. This piece was $20. It would have been $10 but I decided to include Lockheed. It just didn't seem right not to include him. I'd say it's quite a bit better...

Blackwood Progress

Progress is slow, but there is some of it. I started work on the 2nd Blackwood boss fight now. It's just scenery so far.. because I spent a while looking for an animated water wheel (which doesn't seem to exist). Besides, I wanted one that was huge, like 256x256. In the end I decided to go with: Oh, look, there's a waterfall.. some wood, broken stuff.. I bet there was a water wheel here! But now it's gone. Okay? :D

Changing Priorities

Since finding an artist is entirely too time consuming (not to mention the stress),
I've decided to put it on hold for a while so I can put more of my focus on game development.

With that said, I finished up a story even in The Blackwood and that section is now 50% complete (not including Mansion Black, but that's its own thing). Actually I might rename it to Mansion Blackwood... Or does Blackwood Mansion sound better? I dunno.

Trial and Error

More Blackwood Stuff

One of the boss fights in The Blackwood has been sucking away all my time lately. Namely because I've had to put a lot of thought and effort into making it possible to complete.

One measure was to include a new neutral entity in battles, the Phoenix Shroom. It likely won't show up very often, but I might include it randomly in later vinery battles. It will basically keep reviving your enemies until it reaches <50% health, at which point it will detonate like the burstshrooms.

How many bosses?

Just noticed something. I might want to move their placement down a little.
Anyway, these were made with Tyler Warren's cutesy battlers, modified a bit
and given a slight bobbing animation (what self respecting ghost doesn't bobble
a bit?). I also need to fix the red guy's glow. Some of it got cut off at the bottom. :(

Just wanted to share that things are moving along again. This is the first blackwood boss fight. It still needs a bit of tweaking, but it's pretty much complete...

The green circle I mentioned. The three blue circles I didn't, but the chest line should show up when she corrects the green circle. Her mouth will probably change during the lining process anyway, and the knee hole should disappear as well.

Avalost Lightlocks (are they working?)

I used a slightly different lightlock system for The Avalost (west of The Tower). Has anyone solved those and/or know if they're working properly yet? I'm a little concerned that the light might not be coming on properly, and need to know before I start applying it to other new areas.

I know there are some issues with the wyvern bosses if you've already defeated them from when they were in the Undergarden (they attack as soon as you enter the boss room). Sorry but I don't think there's a...

Please see the attachment as well. For some reason she sent me that as well, saying that it had less of her stylistic choices.

She seemed upset in the email, saying that she had to toss out the clean lines she's already done because so much is changing, and also because I didn't mention some of these things during the sketch...

I was pretty happy with the finished sketch (see attachment). She's still working on the line drawing/regular colored version (which cost $65, and the cost to rainbow sketch her was $18). I don't know. I'm just rather unhappy with the rainbow sketch. I thought I'd like it more, but it just seems way too different from the sketch.

The Blackwood

Sorry I haven't been posting as much lately. I've been a bit depressed and honestly haven't enjoyed doing anything. I had stopped taking a daily B12 vitamin, so that might be the problem. Started again today.

Today I took a break from the storyline stuff to work on The Blackwood. I've fully fixed up two of the four monster encounters so far. One of the remaining monsters ended up with some really crazy stats, so I decided it shouldn't have any minions. I'll limit it to just one per floor...

Just random stuff

The long story event is only about 10% done now, mostly due to me being too lazy to work on it. I think it will be best if I just go through and put the basic stuff (dialogue, progression, etc..) and then go back later to spruce it up with graphical improvements, corrections, etc..

You know those little story cut scenes in Stardew Valley? It's kinda like those, but like 10 all at once. I'm letting the player control the progression and have a save point, so that you'll be able to take a ...

Commission Update #2 (Voting time!)

There was some confusion to clear up, but I'm hoping everything is clear now. There might be a reduction in the cost because of the new clarity, but I'm uncertain. I feel like I have a good idea of all the options now. I'd really like to know your thoughts on this, so please post and let me know!

A: $750+/-: Full body animation with grinding, facial expressions, etc..
B: $750-: Full body animation (rear/side view). No facial expressions.
C: $500-: Hip/thigh only animation with grin...

Just Chillin' (and info about latest commission)

I've started a discussion with Obakawaii about the latest commission, which is an animation of course. I still need more information and will keep ya'll updated but currently it sounds like it could cost around $750, which would pretty much suck the Patreon coffers dry for the next 5+ months. It seems I have underestimated artist costs yet again. xP

BUT I might be able to get it cheaper if the focus is just on the lower torso. I don't have a quote on that yet, but she did mention that it ...

Patch Release: CB Abyss Version 0.68

As before, you'll need the audio folder from a previous version.

There's not much difference between this and the previous version, except that now leaves can properly be changed into cloth and water without the game giving you a hard time about it (or wasting leaves).

Also, the transmutation spell should work better now. I don't know if the change will fix the game locking up during battle with certain enemies, but hopefully that's fixed now. Please let me know if it happens aga...
