Did the Things!

These little guys are six mixed media traditional pieces! The originals have been individually framed and will be at the Anthrocon art show in a few weeks, but I'll also have them available together as a print like this and on print-on-demand stuff a little later. I'll be posting them publicly very shortly, but first peek goes to my lovely Patrons!

(Edit June 17 16:25) I got some nice photos of the in...

New Display!

My patrons and supporters are generous people, and I do my best to put the funds and resources they provide me with to good use making cool new things and making existing works available in new forms as my audience requests. Part of making good use of my resources sometimes includes looking at what I already have and deciding how I can re-purpose it to save money and accomplish a goal at the same time. That's the case for my new display board, shown above, which I made this past weekend out of a...

Preorders are now live for the brand-new Invertebrate Fossil bandanas and Spider bandanas!  Each comes in two colors as shown. These will all be screenprinted as usual on 22" square standard size, 100% cotton bandanas, made in the USA by the same folks who’ve helped me with all my previous designs over the years! Both of these themes have been highly requested for a long time, so I’m super excited to finally present them both!

Blast from the Past: Cicada Design Development

Here's a sneak peek at how I decided how to draw toony cicadas. Four years ago now! Feels longer for some reason. It's interesting to me that the overall shape I simplified the body to in the upper right hand corner is not so different from the design I settled on for the Insecta Geometrica cicada pin, which was developed at a different time with different goals.

Patreon has decided not to go forward with the fee changes!

As of early this afternoon, Patreon has responded to the feedback on its planned fee changes and apologized. You can read Jack's blog post here.

I'm glad to see Patreon listening to its userbase and actually acknowledging some of the specific concerns people had with the plan. I do feel that Patreon has done serious damage to the relationship it has had with many of its creators, though. It will...

Patreon Changes & What I'm Doing

Hi folks. Some of you have probably heard by now that Patreon is planning to start passing fees on to patrons. You may have seen creator discussion on social media, and you will probably be receiving an email from Patreon itself today if you haven't already. Patreon is pitching this as a creator-positive move, but it isn't, and I don't support it. Here's why:

They're planning to start charging you a 2.9% + $0.35 fee per pledge. This won't hit large pledges like the Bug Club ve...

Elemental: BALANCE (Progress Snapshots)

I've been working on the Elemental commission series this month in between everything else going on, and I'm particularly proud of the third piece, "BALANCE"! The final work is above; here's a peek at how it was made.

First, above is the finished sketch I worked from for the rest of the piece. I decided early on that I wanted to try using an angular style while still evoking a sense of life and depth in the image. The water intention...
