Quick Look: Lumines Arise

Hey! Lumines Arise is out in a few weeks, but Enhance sent out a preview build for me to look at! I'm glad to finally get a chance to play it, they've done a few limited demos here and there but I always seemed to just miss them. This is running on PC. It's neat! It's Lumines!

Bonus! 10/15/2025 - ROG Xbox Ally X Reviews Hit, Your Thoughts on Embargo Teases, and More!

For whatever reason I pre-ordered one of these newfangled Windows handhelds that Asus is shipping this week. Probably should've bugged someone about a review unit, but something about the run-up to this hardware release has seemed really, really off to me. Let's talk a bit about all that.

Also: social media posts where people talk about how they have a game that you can't buy yet. I kinda hate 'em? I mean, whatever, though, right? Not that big of a deal, but I guess I just found myself ...

Plus: The final days of Windows 10, Absolum, Netflix gets into video games (again), The Union needs The Benz (to formally apologize), and your emails on what you plan to do about this Game Pass price hike.

Joe & Mac, Last Action Hero, Times of Lore, and More! Ranked!

Another wild week over in NES ranking land as it's time to see the NES version of Joe & Mac, a game that I... was not expecting to be quite what it was, but that's my fault! Also: Times of Lore from the original Star Citizen himself, Chris Roberts. Neat!

Battlefield 6 Trip Report (and Campaign Review)

OK, here’s the status report on Battlefield 6. I’ve completed the campaign and, as of this writing, been in two multiplayer matches. Pre-release access to the Battlefield Portal stuff was originally planned for the review period but turned out to be unavailable until launch day, so I don’t have anything to say about that either way. At this time, I’ve only seen the retail version of the game running on a PS5 Pro.

So let’s not call this a full review or anything, b...

Quick Look: Skate Season 1 - Man, They Took Out the Coolest Part

I found myself compelled to check out the new seasons of Skate, which just started. One of the neatest things about Skate was a weird glitch that would launch your character into the air, which made getting onto the rooftops a much faster process than the slow climbing system in the game. So, naturally, they patched that out. I mean, I get it, it's a glitch, it probably has a lot of unintended effects on top of just letting you fly into the air, blah blah blah.

But damn, that's...

A few further thoughts on this whole Xbox thing. Also, naturally, some talk of the TurboGrafx-16's run in the US. And the Saturn. Also: video game glitches, which ones are the best? Furthermore, you get to hear me find out that they fixed the cool glitch in Skate that would let you launch up into the sky. What a bummer.

The Jeff Gerstmann Show 174: Yesterday’s Price is Not Today’s Price

Xbox turns Game Pass upside-down and the deal seems bad. Did Call of Duty on Game Pass really cost $300 million? No, right? Do you care about Fortnite Crew? Also: The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta, Marathon gets a new test, PlayStation: The Concert gets canceled, and meanwhile there’s Nintendo over here, just posting random videos to the internet for some reason. What the heck is happening around here???

Quick Look: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta launched today, so I figured I'd take a quick look at it. Here it is running on a PS5 Pro. The PC version has been continually crashing on me after every other match or so? Weird. Anyway, here's this!

Quick Look: Ghost of Yotei

Hey, this video probably isn't an ideal look at every single system in the game and all that, but I thought I'd just quickly record a little bit of the game based on where I'm currently at so you could get a taste of it. I think if you played Ghost of Tsushima you'll probably get a pretty good sense of what this game is laying down. Seems cool so far.

Bonus! Game Pass Prices Skyrocket, The End of Rock Band 4

With the price of Game Pass going through the frickin' roof today, it seemed like a good time to stare at their charts and infographics to try to make sense of it all. Not sure that I got any closer, but hey! Worth a shot, right?

Quick Look: Baby Steps

While I'd say I really enjoyed Getting Over It, the cottage industry of "weird climbing things" that came in its wake has always left me a little cold. I suppose it makes sense that a new game in this vein from, among others, the creator of Getting Over it has some interesting ideas and things going on in it that might help separate it from the pack.

Whaddaya think? Are you into playing this sort of stuff? Or does it only exist as a game that other people livestream and you might View Post

Here's A Look At Some Borderlands 4 Mods

Want to shoot hella fast? You can! Honestly, I think using these Borderlands 4 mods to play through the game would be an insanely mindless way to play the game. But it's always fun to tinker. Here's me looking at Borderlands 4 mods that increase the tiers on a lot of the loot as well as one that makes weapons fire stupidly fast. It's all very easy to install and it looks like there are new mods out today that weren't there last night, so it's a fast-moving little scene at the moment.

Bonus! Podcast! 09/17/2025 - Battlefield 6 Matchmaking, Borderlands Mods, "Fairness"

IGN interviewed someone on the Battlefield 6 team about cross-play and matchmaking and some bits of it struck me funny, so let's talk about that. Also on the topic of "competitive" "fairness," Borderlands 4 already has an interested mod and cheat scene developing for people who want ridiculous guns faster and totally broken fire rates. It's kinda neat!

Borderlands 4 Review

Hey, what are your thoughts on aiming a reticle at a guy’s face and pulling (or holding!) the trigger down over and over again until he falls over? Love it? Love to shoot the same guy in the head like 20 times? How about 40? Great! Then Borderlands 4 is for you. It’s a game about pointing a reticle at a guy’s face and pulling (or holding!!) the trigger down until he falls, then doing it again to the guy standing next to him. Acclaim Returns! Let's See Their Lineup

The name Acclaim is... well, it's well-known. I wouldn't say it was always associated with good games, but they licensed a ton of stuff and in the 8-bit days, they published a zillion questionable licensed games. Then they did the deal to bring Midway's games home, became the publisher of record for NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat, and people kinda forgot about the company's roots.

Acclaim went under a long time ago, and most of its properties are long gone, too. But the name has been picked ...

Here's a look at EA's upcoming Early Access release, Skate. We talked a bunch about it on the podcast this week and I also wrote a thing about it, so you might already know what's up, but here it is in action. One nice thing here is that the bug involving players warping in and out of the world, making it hard to find any other actual players, seems to have been fixed today. So I actually managed to get a multiplayer event to work properly.
