Hope this style can convey the backgrounds and carry the story clearly! It's definitely much faster than before.

Also, irrelevant fun fact: I can't decide how old Honglin is. There'll be a timeskip in the future, and his age is going to depend on how long I decide to make that timeskip... but he's definitely between 17 and 23 ish.

I couldn't convince myself that a merman, after meeting a human for only TWO WEEKS, would have the motivation to take on a months-long swimming trip to find said human. Would you make such a trek for a human that you only met for 2 weeks?? I wouldn't

But with a tragic backstory? Makes a lil more sense

this is obviously a "hobby comic", so the quality is noticeably one grade lower. Fun fact: i really despise how repetitive drawing comics can get. I LOVE writing the comic, and having the end result, but the actual drawing and rendering part can be... SO TEDIOUS

Superstar comic artists employ other artists to draw out the panels for them, or at least the backgrounds, so they can focus on the story. Man. I would like to get to that level one day. ...

Bailin quickie

Just a quick little thing I did one evening! I'm thinking about how to continue the story. I have a vague idea where it could go, but the details are where I need a bit more time to figure out. As I've said before, this is a fun side thingy I think about, I don't have plans to make it "serious".

On the other hand, I've got the draft of chapter 1 of the langwen comic done! 8) Now all there is to draw it

Finished!  Water is hard

I'm not really happy with the water ripples around his hand... it's not the effect I want, but I don't know how to achieve what I want without making it messy, so I will stop at this point. I had to fiddle with the values quite a bit before I could dive into it. Remember, the sky is almost always the lightest part of an illustration  (except for night times) or the picture would look too flat.

Not sure why they were down sized... also, they may be of differing sizes in general bc I'm a bit arbitrary when it comes to study paintings, so I don't care so much about how big the canvas is, since the point of these are to make sure my values and overall image look good as a...

Langwen illustration - wip

another one... I'm on a roll! 

Writing the "screenplay" takes time so in the meanwhile I'm painting illustrations for it. Most webtoons/mangas out there have occasional fully illustrated covers for some of their chapters, so that's my plan for these drawings. I'm trying to hold off on doing spoilery art until I actually start drawing the comic.

Just a little fun doodle I did tonight... I've got a lot of plot bunnies running around my head lately hehe

I'm also still polishing the style/process I want to use when I start doing the Langwen comic. I think it's getting closer to what I want. The style I had for the previous pages of these OCs still took too long. This iteration is getting better

AAA - test comic

I got distracted!! I REALLY want to do the comic for these two, but I must prioritize... but you patrons get the goods from my periodic distractions lol

I can't decide yet whether the prince knows who "Lady An" really is right now. I feel like he doesn't, but I also feel he'd ask this exact thing even if he knew. "Lady An" already likes the prince at this point, hehe.

We'll see where this scene happens when I eventually write the story...

langwen illustration - Huoge, finished!

Full res illustration of Huoge! (Huo-GUH) (but the g is pronounced more like an intermediate between g and k)

I'm quite pleased with it! I had to restart it a couple of times because I didn't like the direction it was going (I've added a screenshot of one of the first iterations I scrapped. You can tell the lighting was muddy and i had no idea what was going on in the abs area)

Onto the next one!

Finished!!! This took a few days. Illustration really takes quite a bit of patience, the kind of patience that takes years of practice...

This is sort of a redraw of one of the first Langwen illustrations I did almost 3 years ago. I'm quite pleased with how much I've improved... you truly learn more on the job than you do in art school.
