Just in case anyone was wondering, there is still a LOT to do! Today Patrick is planing some white oak (offcuts from milling the deck beams all those years ago!) for a pretty big project in the forepeak - constructing the chain locker / spurling pipe.

These winches have been a long time coming, but there's been a lot of preparation and other jobs that had to happen before we could fasten these down on deck. These will be used for controlling sheets and running backstays, among various other things.

Tally Ho's sails are going to be a transatlantic collaboration, which seems entirely fitting for this project. I'm really excited to be working with 2 fantastic sail-lofts - Ratsey & Lapthorne in the UK, and NW Sails and Canvas here in Port Townsend.
I'll be posting in more detail about each of these lofts soon - but for now, here's a very exciting photo of one of Tally Ho's topsails getting some handwork done at the Ratsey & Lapthorn loft on the Isle of Wight.

Help needed! We need to transport Tally Ho's Capstan from Georgia to Washington state - nearly 3000 miles across the USA.
Keith Rucker has been doing a fantastic job working on Tally Ho's capstan, and has been making detailed videos of the process so far - linked above is the latest video, do check it out if you're interested in machining work.

It's time to put the topmast up! Here we are just hoisting it from the ground up to deck, where we will re-rig it to hoist up through the doublings to protrude above the lower mast and extend the height of the rig by around 20'. The spar is hollow spruce, so it's very light for it's size!

Zeal has been making a very nice custom tool cabinet in the engine room. We were planning to just mount a toolbox in here but there wasn't quite enough room between the fuel tank and the bulkhead, so we just took the drawers out and built a custom cabinet around them! These shallow metal drawers are great for mechanical tools and are a very efficient use of space. This will be a great place to store spanners, wrenches, nut-f******s, 10mm sockets, sky hooks... and what else?

This photo may not look like that much, but for me it's extremely exciting! This is the new Gypsy for Tally Ho's original Capstan. This piece will grab the links of chain and hold on to them while the capstan rotates, thus pulling the chain and anchor in towards the boat. This Gypsy is custom-made to fit our specific chain and capstan dimensions, and was machined in Cornwall UK by Webster's Boat Machinery. David and Bailey apply the final coat of finish to the bowsprit! This spar will be ready to run out over the bow of Tally Ho very soon.
We are using AWLWOOD to finish our spars, which is a more modern product than we are using elsewhere. Although it's a bit more technical to apply, it should be much more chafe-resistant and last for far longer without maintenance, which is especially useful for spars - they are harder to access and more likely to have lines running over them.

More beautiful bronze hardware for the rig, made by Port Townsend Foundry. This is the gaff saddle, shown here mounted temporarily to confirm some measurements for the sailmakers. Eventually the gaff will be mounted in the bell-shaped piece, and this hardware will hold it in place against the mast and be hoisted (with the gaff and the sail) from the large shackle on top.
