Aime's breakbeat and how wide is ok?

Konari's funk

Again another funky track. It seems a bit dark so I would really like to double check a reference. (The song before or after). Give a listen to your song with a tilt shift where the low end is tamed and the top end is boosted.

A definite have to is to fix that reverse bass top end.

Clarifying the SPL trick

1. Set volume of reference (so that it feels good to you)

2. Look at SPL meter (fine to use an app-no need to buy a spl meter). Remember the average SPL

3. Play back your mix at same SPL. (You should be able to instantly notice the balance of your track being off or bang on).. you can immediately apply steps below if your song is already mixed.

.........

Mix your song at the same SPL.

........

Forget about the meter and mix away, if you notice these tw...

Great job man!

Just a few concepts to add. Keep it up

Kulpa Track

It just seems something happened with the top end. Maybe a forgotten EQ or something. Give the main elements some mid as well. Music lives in the mids :).

Vocal processing for that weird zing, (Matt's pop track)

Mixing Pop is even weirder than general the usual.

So, the zing is melodyne and putting in the even harmonics within melodyne. (Not Full to the right, just a tad). For the rest sooth on the low end of the vocal.

Mix wise you are pretty spot on. It just needs more poppy transitions. Just copy paste them from the reference. No need to be creative.

And get some over the top side vocals for the chorusses.

Goodluck and good job

Difference of reverb vs volume down

Bit of reverb on a main element plus a little bit of volume adjusting makes things less awkward :).

As you homework. Draw a line and after another shape that embodies different concepts. Next, how can you move all those concepts around (rhythm/panning/timing)

analog setup to a mastered sound?

Honestly, I would embrace the sound especially if you want to jam out.

The things you do need  are:
- a limiter (hardware if you want to go without a daw)
- (optional compressor or multiband) for flavor and control
- do not upload mp3's :)

In need of a German female "vocal" for a Boris Brejcha remake

Alright, I know a few of you are German and a few of you have brilliant ladies that work in your projects too! (super happy for you that you have that awesome gf/wife/friend in your life)

Can I kindly ask your significant other/friend to simply say those words relatively the same way? Song is called Gravity by Boris Brejcha

for recording remember
1. Put on headphones
2. Write down the text
3. Record all takes
4. do this in a relatively quiet room (no kids screaming hah...

What is a reference?

A song that is similar is style and genre.. (aka vibes right and has similar elements)

808 clean low distorted top

Split it up :). Either get a (sub osc) or use the original clean 808. Will be a lot easier to mix as you can side chain the "sub/clean 808" from the kick if needed.

Set a perfect predelay via sidechaining

Lot's of different things going on here.

Lower bit rates cause distortion

If you care, you can go with Spotify's recommendation of -2db ceiling if your song is above -8 LUFS overall.. (might be less lufs. I will edit if it's a lower lufs)

Personally I do not care that much. It depends on the reference. If the reference is stupid loud and has audible distortion I will ask the artist if he/she is ok with it. Match it if they want it, louder if they want it or go with something more sensible.

This afterlife artists song is being played back at -6.7db...

What makes a good kick?

The definition of good is in your reference. Simply match the low, mid and top end. Only process with eq and if you have to ADSR. If your kick is pissing off the limiter switch the kick.

Cut out the main issue of the kick. That will sort out a lot of the low mid clarity ;)

Headphone hack for the low end

Let me know if you can replicate this, Only do this from 10 to 150hz:

1. Open up an EQ
2. Open up an operator (click the box fixed, in between the Fine and Level in A)
3. Set level of playback (Volume of operator to -8db) and volume of DAC to speaking volume according to 260 to 300hz
4. Slowly sweep up from 10hz and put in nodes where you hear volume changes
5. Adjust notes opposite of volume changes so that it sound like 1 consistent volume
6. Open up Goodhertz Can open...

Konari's Groove

Groovy as can be again.

Double check the mid side and follow the general rule of thumb. If it's a main element try to keep it louder in mono vs side. (Aka the pluck is louder on the side now). If it's not a main element or a breakdown disregard the "rule"

Reverse engineering Marino Canal's sound and Mixing with headphones?

The sound is made with the almighty fm.. It's almost always FM when you can't put your finger on it. Bit of echo boy or you can play it in.

Headphones mixing is doable just know the pitfall of mid/side and time and balance.

Here is the video on vsx breaking:

dBora feedback

Great job. You have the balance of low-mid-high completely perfect. Love the obnoxious lead that comes in for a brief second.

Only weird part is if the harmony group needs to be that quiet? It's completely in balance but I am just scratching my head a bit

-7 db workflow

Setting your kick to a set number will take away the variable of volume. Which will really help out streamline your workflow over the long run :)

View Post

Smooth top end

To get an overal smooth top end use a de esser (preferably one that can do parallel processing). In the example a lot of vocoders were used so start experimenting with that aswel :)

Computer noise issue with speakers

It's solved via connecting your computer to a different group, or connecting each speaker to a different group.

Got any set number for mixing?

No I do not but I do have a set of similar concepts.. Every time I mix I do this. Plus color code

For vocals I always use the Freddy Mercury tip.

Well, it all comes down to automation. Literally everything is automated. The wave form, arp rhythm, arp gate, pan, flanger, filters.. Literally everything. It sounds like a fiddled preset but you can also take the concept and make something yourself :) with lots of lfo's.
