It’s never simple to synthesize decades of interactions between multiple countries, but for this video, we were lucky enough to have data that told a story about the economy on an international scale. We had fun applying this data to our own maps, and fleshing out the story by digging deep into archival footage to reflect the very human parts of these connections and restrictions.

We wanted to make the transitions between the footage and animations real smooth and were dead set on creating what we’ve been calling “seams.” It took us a minute to get a good workflow figured out, but once we did, it felt like the whole video came together in such a magical way.
