Schedule for August

Since the last video I've been completely focused on finishing the moon textures, which are about 90% wrapped up.  Because I don't want to go too long without a video I'm taking a break to cover Silent Hill 2 and its "Enhanced Edition" mod.   I've never finished the game before, so this will be as much a reaction to Silent Hill 2 itself as much as it is a showcase for the fan restoration.

Black Mesa Review

This is an excellent remake with a few small issues.  Can you find all three secrets in the thumbnail?  Thank you for your support

Steam Controller TLWGAS

This controller is still fascinating to use (I got it right at launch) and I continued learning new tricks for it while making the video.  I think this sums up why the gaming community had such a love/hate relationship with it.  Thanks again for your support, and go watch Jurassic Park

Side Area Wrap-Up Video, Upcoming Topics

Hopefully this one is halfway entertaining even if you don't like the texture projects.  The next video should be on the Steam Controller's lifespan and the transition to Steam Input and I'm also considering finally buckling under the weight of all the Okami review requests (which would dovetail nicely with the Steam Controller since it has native support).

Thank you again for your support and enjoy this vision in crayon:

Software Goal Met

GIMP has served me perfectly well for creating video assets and most texture work, but if it has any glaring weakness it's that it's relatively poor at emulating physical media.   Because I need to do just that for a few upcoming tasks, I downloaded trials for about half a dozen painting programs and settled on a few that impressed me.  This clip shows the kind of realistic paint physics I'll be able to take advantage of now.

One of the specific needs I have for th...

Trials of Mana Review

This review is a little crasser than usual but hopefully funny.  I'm starting to suspect that there's some kind of curse revolving around the Mana games that causes my computer to break down... I was once again delayed by constant errors and BSOD crashes.  Hopefully I can find the cause soon.

I also played the Switch version and didn't think a comparison was worth delaying the v...

Resident Evil 3 Review

There are a few problems with Resident Evil 3's remake but I still thoroughly enjoyed all 20 minutes of it.

I'll be going back to work on textures until Trials of Mana releases at the end of the month.  Thanks again for your support!

Mega Review pt. 2

This will do it for Metroid for a while but I do intend to make more parts when all of the indie games coming this year are out.  Next up is going to be Resident Evil 3, which will hopefully be fairly quick like the RE2 video was.

I want to thank everyone for continuing to support what I do during this time, but please keep your priorities in order and don't hesitate to withdraw your support if you need to.

Also, you may have noticed some piano tracks again... If...

Metroid Review Roundup 1

It's always been my dream to tell everyone that Hollow Knight is actually bad and that no one should ever play it, and now that dream has come true.  Part two will be along the same lines and will probably include  Bloodstained, Guacamelee, AM2R, Cave Story, and Luna Nights.

I'm thinking about also doing a third and final part just focusing on the actual Metroid and Castlevania games themselves   (mostly the GBA Metroids and SotN) , but that will depend on whet...

Patreon's Fix for Tier Issues

I've already messaged most of you having this problem, but just to be sure I wanted to share Patreon's response to the "no tier" issue here.  To get all of the $5 tier rewards and still donate a larger amount, you must edit your membership to join the "master of universe" tier first and then change your pledge amount.  The instructions for how to do this are below.

I requested that they give the option to automatically grant patrons the rewards of all tiers bel...

Patreon Reward Issues

Lately a few people have complained about not getting Discord membership or not being named in the credits.  It turns out that anyone choosing to donate more than $5 is not given membership in the $5 tier and will not be given the Discord reward.  I also sort members by tier when doing the credits and those donating outside of the $5 tier are getting omitted, so I'm disappointed to see that I've been leaving a few of you out the past few videos.

I'm going to contact Pat...

Emulation, the Law, and You ( + source list)

This video was meant to be something short and simple and it spiraled out of control due to the huge volume of contradictory information, but hopefully this is something vaguely resembling a few actual facts.  Thanks again for supporting and watching!

All the sources are numbered to correspond to the video markers and linked below if you're interested in reading more (Patreon broke a few, just manually copy them or use the attached .rtf file):

Final Dungeon Tour

The next update for the pack will be the final one, and because there's a lot to tie up before then it may take a little longer to show it.  I'm looking forward to finally wrapping this up (and then taking a little break before doing the 3D version).

And yes, those are Tingle scorpions.  Thanks again for your support!

Schedule for the coming weeks

Here's what you can expect from here and on into February-

I have the final MM temple done and will be showing a video of it within a few days.  I hope you enjoy it, because the next project video will likely be the very last one.

The video on the legality of emulation and ROM usage will follow a little later this month.  You can consider this a companion to the "world without emulation" video I did last year, this time with extra snark and more focus specifical...

Full-Time Funding Goal Reached - Activate "Party .mp3"

I set this goal with the idea that this amount combined with YouTube revenue would be enough to scrape by working on these projects full time. Even on the best months my YT revenue is much less than what you provide, but it's enough that I'm able to focus completely on creating content now.

I take this privilege very seriously and hope that you'll be satisfied by the work I'm doing- you're basically my bosses now.  Please accept this mp3 as a sign of our combined pow...

100,000 Subscriber Face Reveal Milestone

At first the joke was going to be that I would deepfake Johnny Depp onto my own face:

That did not work... at all.  Not even a little bit:

So I went with the Conan O'Brien cardboard cutout approach instead.  I decided to bump the emulator law video back since...

The Last Jedi - Feel free to not watch this

I've wanted to put this together for a long time and figured with episode 9 coming it was now or never; most people on YouTube seem to hate the movie and I'm prepared for this to be the least popular video I probably ever do, but if nothing else I hope it's entertaining and raises a decent point or two.

Time permitting, I'd also like to get another (shorter!) video out about the legality of emulators, ROMs and game dumping before the holidays.  After that, I'll be making a b...

MM Project vs 3D Comparison

This is the worst thumbnail I've ever done.  The worst I've ever seen, even.  Anyway, I held this off from last month to get more 3DS textures done, which was funner than I was prepared for it to be.  The 64 version will be finished first, probably early next year, before any further 3D stuff will be done.  Hopefully you're entertained by the comparison, and thanks again!

Resident Evil 6 Review (+Halloween cover)

I made this rendition of the Halloween theme for the credits but it caused the video to get claimed immediately, so I'll share it here instead.  Whether you agree or disagree with the review I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for your support:

Ikana Area Texture Video

I decided to put this up a little late so I could finish a few more areas and show them, hopefully you like what you see.  I made an alternate thumbnail that didn't really work as a thumbnail (even with a lot of doctoring), so I'll post it here while I'm at it.  Thanks again for your support

October Video Subject

Do you want to see a Halloween video on Resident Evil 6?  I've joked about it being a dead horse at this point, but this would be more of a look at how perception of the game has evolved over the years with a lot of people actually believing the game to be great and misunderstood.  I could settle the debate once and for all with my computer.

Link's Awakening - Now you know that it's good

It's been a tough week for a lot of you out there.  You played the game but had no idea what to think about it.  It was all just color and noise, and your brain has been spinning trying to make sense of it in the aftermath.  Don't worry, because someone finally had the guts to say something on YouTube; I'm here with all the answers.

Schedule for the coming month

I've been working on textures nonstop since the last upload but I've decided to hold off on showing them until the entire Ikana area is complete.

So right now I'm doing a Link's Awakening video (pro tip: it's best to release a review two weeks after everyone else) and I'm also going to review the SNES classic controller as soon as it arrives this week, complete with a teardown and possibly an on-camera ruining, depending on whether I'm able to put it back together.  I'll als...

Chronicling my pain with the Secret of Mana remake

This was an oddly difficult video to finish, to the point that I think the Secret of Mana remake is cursed.   The first captures I took with AMD ReLive glitched and had no audio, so I had to replay the first 40 minutes of the game over.  Then, after getting Flammie, the game kept crashing every time the world map loaded.  And not just the game but my entire system, to the point where my Windows installation got broken.  The boot files were corrupted beyond repair and ...

Texture tutorial (and piano mp3s)

This probably isn't everyone's cup of tea but I wanted to put this out there for the people who wanted to see how I draw textures.   Once again I recorded a lot of music for this video and I'm making it available as an attachment, since you can barely hear most of it over my monotone sputtering.

Small update on recent MM3D mods

I wanted to showcase these mods as they seem like a great start to what could eventually be a fixed (or mostly fixed) version of MM3D.  For next month I'm working on the texture drawing demonstration video still (which keeps growing and getting new textures added to it) as well as a review of the Secret of Mana remake.  I'm debating whether to also include the Collection of Mana in that review, because the Secret of Mana remake is worthy of a whole video on its own (spoiler: it's no...
