thumbnails and such, mostly commissionwork. I'm also uploading the PSD of the arcanine for anyone who wants to play with it.
IF Patreon will let me that is...

Some big cheetah balls for Jasiri
I got some new paper from dickblick called Yupo heavy which is SUPPOSEDLY great for water media but really it fought me all the way. No buckling but it was mad resistant. A real pain!!
Seemed like it would be good for water-repellant pens and markers, but not for water-based paint.

Sketch that will be painted up for some convention or another. I might do it in real media and might do it digitally? Not sure yet!

A collection of digital doodling.
After what feels like weeks of an absolutely incredible sinus headache I feel like I finally got things moving in there and oh my God the difference is night and day. I actually WANT to make artwork rather than forcing myself against every fiber of my being.
FEELS GOOD!!!!!

Some in the last bunch were better than others, so I made two more to make up for the flubs.

Talin is one of my favorite commissioners who regularly gets lots of sketches and then chooses some of them for color. MFF didn't happen last year and I wound up sitting on them a bit, but it's on this year. It miiiiight get canceled due to another wave, but I'll finish em up anyway.
Four down, thirteen to go!

I use a wet palette for acrylic painting. It keeps the paint wet and workable.
So I figured, if a wet palette keeps paint wet and workable, what if I made one for the painting?
So far, the response is interesting. It extends working time, but not indefinitely. The paint eventually dries.
I used bristol, which has two plies, which means that there are two layers in the paper. This may have something to do with the surface drying. I think with a waterc...

Someone asked me for some critique on their work and I thought you dudes might also want to see it. They told me I could but expressed a little concern that someone might take from their original material. So if anyone does that, I'm coming after you! :P

Things have been a little slow artwise but very good lifewise. I've been doing some massive full-room cleaning, and have been getting more and more exercise lately, which is very good for my mental and physical states. It feels good to get out! We don't get a lot of fine, warm, sunny days in the Seattle area, and with fire seasons getting worse and worse, much of the summer seems to be taken up with smokepocalypse. I've been going out while I can, just keeping my fingers crossed that we aren'...

Putting the 'I'm done' rubber stamp on this one. Yalith has very interesting characters with a lot of detail and I was very honored that she chose me for the job of creating a ref sheet. The iridescent effect on the lady's skin was especially fun to nail down.

One more realistic one of a dragon curled up in a rose. It was painted with gouache first for the background and then matte acrylic over that. I don't think I'll ever go back to regular acrylic >_> It's just so reflective.
The second is just me allowing myself to make a hideous painting with colors I don't use. They are even more eye-searing in the original. My scanner doesn't know what to do with the yellow

Something like a table arrangement is something that SEEMS easy but this thing took me hours. I wasn't sure where to start and I have no idea how it will look in the VR room of Anthrocon. We'll see!
Also I sketched out my first pin-up of a sexy cat boi. I have an IDEA of what I want to do but I'm not so sure it's coming together. Pin ups are kind of weird because composition is so subtle. There aren't a lot of background elements and the figure is usually dead center. So I'm kin...

This wasn't a great sketch to start with so I didn't take it to a really clean finish. I do like the idea behind it, though.

Pshew, started this Thursday but some crazy nonsense went down with a visceral infection and an ER visit (my roommate, not me, but it interrupted my work!)
This was just meant to be a study but turned into a several-day painting.

Definitely WAY better than working at my computer. My psychology is so much calmer and more relaxed and my posture is sloooowly correcting. I feel 100% better with it.
So I wanted to start another book project--pinups like the old 50s illustrations but with subversive genders, body types, and etc.
I've been gathering inspiration and checking out the styles, etc. Here's my first attempt and/or idea. Just trying to decide if I want to do some of them in gouache. I THINK I ...

It occurred to me that some of my patrons might be curious about my day-to-day, since being an artist can sometimes be a lifestyle just as much as a job. And I think patrons perhaps more than regular fans are invested in the general well-being of the artist they support. So I'm going to make a LIFE post.

FOR NOW I'm uploading these under the $2 tier but I'm going to move them up to $5 or $10 when I begin to do them more regularly/when I get better at composition and have correct authoritative information beyond me being like: I'm trying this.
The information I DO include is good, and from professional sources, such as the thing about not having weird corners. I try to be careful about not passing on bad or questionable advice.

Thanks to all the good folks supporting me monthly I was able to get a new workstation!
I'm too old to continue to hunch over my real media. Especially the last few years it has been very uncomfortable. So I finally got some tools that will help me art comfortably. The kneeling chair will help keep my poor legs from being squeezed and going to sleep and also keep my back upright. I'm hoping it will improve back pain and the tremor in my neck.
The past few days have been we...
