Groot is a hugely popular character thanks in no small part to the incredibly successful Guardians of the Galaxy movie. But why do we love Groot? Thanks to Scott McCloud's amazing book, Understanding Comics, we have some pretty good ideas. The "mechanics" of Groot as a character almost perfectly line up with the primary reason why we like comics and cartoons in the first place. Not only that, but it's possible that Groot is a comic book character that represents comic books themselves. I am Groo...

Chris Sanders is the creator of fantastic nerdy videos that tackle everything from anime, cartoons, video games, movies, and even some inspiring motivational videos,. This week, Chris drops in on the podcast to talk about how he got started on YouTube, his background in music, surviving and thriving at conventions, Saturday morning cartoons, and realizing that the most original thing you have over everyone else is yourself. As you can tell, this episode is both highly geeky and highly inspiratio...

This is the video topic that I am super excited about sharing with you all next week! It will be one of the more in depth discussions we've ever had on the show, and I can't wait to hear what you guys think about it. It's all about a fan favorite character from Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot!
I don't want to give too much away, but this will not be a simple "Origin of Groot" video or anything like that. It will be a detailed analysis of why Groot is objectively a near perfect comic book charact...

If you listen to the podcast, I've said before that I failed out of college. Well, recently I tried to start some online classes, but they took up way too much time and put me WAY behind schedule with Comic Misconceptions. It's Tuesday night, and I have yet to finish the script for tomorrow's video, let alone shoot and edit it. It's very stressful and I would feel better taking another week off in order to not rush the episode, but spend some time on it and do it right.
That being said, I am al...

What a great time to be a live for comic book fans! Marvel just announced their film slate for Phase 3 of their cinematic universe, and we could not be more excited! Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, and, to top it all off, Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2!!! With all this exciting news, we need some help to break it all down. And who better for that than the wonderful Chris Sanders!
We're also go...

You amazing NerdSync Patrons have been helping us out for a few months now, and it's important to us that you see exactly what we are using your hard earned money towards. The first big thing we did was put the podcasts on SoundCloud, which costs us $15 per month. Then, we took the remaining funds along with your support from last month and bought a teleprompter for Comic Misconceptions!
This teleprompter isn't just to make us seem professional, but it's mostly to help speed up production of t...

Today, Scott explains why Nick Fury is white in some interpretations and black in other. We'll also unravel the history of his son, Marcus Johnson, aka Nick Fury Jr.! Plus, learn a little info about the Infinity Formula that has been keeping Fury young all this time.

The Age of Ultron Trailer came out, and words cannot express how perfect it is!!! Scott, Chris, and Bryce talk about their favorite parts of the trailer of the upcoming Marvel movie and try to dissect the plot of the film. We're also talking about the now confirmed Civil War movie that will happen in the third Captain America movie. And there's a pretty heated debate about which side the NerdSync gang is on: Pro-registration or anti-registration! What are your thoughts about the trailer and the ...

Next week we're tackling a topics that's been suggested a lot lately: Is Nick Fury white or black? A few years ago, this question would have been simple. But in 2012, things got a tad more complicated in the comics...
We'll hopefully be able to clear this up for everyone as well as touch on some interesting history of the Infinity Formula and the Life Model Decoys. Looking forward to it!

Crazy and horrific crimes and disasters happen seemingly every single day in Gotham City, so why would anyone choose to live there? From criminals constantly breaking loose and wreaking havoc, to earthquakes and other natural disasters, Gotham seems like the worst place to live imaginable. But what if it actually isn't THAT bad? What if the reason we think people are stupid for saying and living in Gotham is because we only view the city in it's darkest light? We're getting psychological in toda...

Here's an idea we're throwing around: An hour long, unedited podcast for New Year's eve.
Basically, Chris, Bryce, and myself will sit down and talk for an hour about our Christmases and our favorite nerdy things of 2014 as we count down the minutes and seconds until 2015. It would be realtime, no editing (probably not even an intro or outro either) so that you hit play at 11pm your time and hopefully we'd be in sync with your clock to count down the last few seconds with you.
Let me know if th...

So let me know in the comments below what days and times work best for you all between the 23rd and the 28th. Also include your timezone so I know h...

Sadly, there will be no Comic Misconceptions this week, but I'm happy to announce that I am INCREDIBLY excited for next week's episode! I've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's definitely the perfect time to talk about it. Why do people still live in Gotham if it's so dangerous? Well, I have a TON of great info on this with a lot of fun psychological insight. I hope you guys enjoy it!

You've waited long enough. I want to talk a little about some super secret projects we have been throwing around at NerdSync. We want to deliver more content per week for you all through more videos and even more podcasts.
One of the things we have been tossing around for years was the idea of a narrative "radio show" podcast type of a thing. We've thought about doing some hard sci-fi adventures, detective crime dramas, and much more before deciding on something that we all are happy with.
It...

Here's something I wanted to work into today's episode, but just couldn't find the right place for it. In The Flash: Rebirth, Reverse-Flash goes back in time to kill Iris West simply to make Barry Allen suffer. Barry and Wally both follow him back through time, and in doing so create the very lightning bolt that strikes Barry that lead to him getting his powers!

The Flash has made his way back to television in the CW's pilot episode last night about Barry Allen's origin story. We all know how the tale goes by now: Barry Allen is a police scientist who is struck by a random bolt of lightning and doused in chemicals which give him super-speed. But what if everything we know about that origin is wrong? What if that lightning bolt wasn't a freak accident, but was a deliberate and purposeful decision made by an imp named Mopee?! Let's learn about the REAL or...
