DKP 6-7 Divide and conquer

The sun was well over an hour away as Lilly, and the others hid behind a hill studying the far bank. Lilly's keen dragon sight made spotting the enemies easy, as she slowly counted their number. Numidel returned early from his patrol to inform them that the enemy holding the bridge was significantly reduced. Gersius and Lilly flew out late into the night to search for the missing men, finally locating them in two camps north and south of their original position. Lilly was enraged, believing t...

HTN 5-3 Think fast or fall hard.

Heather collected the bones leftover from Frank and Quinny's raid on her yard and tower. It was a good exercise in her defenses and highlighted some weak areas in the yard. They dared to attack the second floor and thankfully found the NPC guards to be a decent fight. Quinny was nearly killed in the battle, and Frank heavily wounded, proving they were an excellent addition.  Now she raced the clock to assemble a golem before the skeletons began to respawn, and the bones faded.

No wonder my hands hurt.

I decided to share my grammarly update. This is how many words it checked over 7 days from the 22nd to the 29th.

My dream goal is to have it say I was more productive than ALL other grammarly users. Maybe that's what 99% means? I dunno.

Now I know for a fact I didn't write this much. I have discovered that Grammarly's numbers are often more than double of what I actually wrote. This week for example I checked two dragon knight chapters, and two test chapters for heather as ...

DKP 6-6 A lie for a viper

Sarah walked along, shaking the ground with her passing. Her presence was so terrifying they had to march ahead of the column to avoid panicking the horses. Gersius rode on her back, looking tiny by comparison. Her saddle dwarfed Lillys' and was large enough to carry two dozen humans. Above them, Lilly soared the sky with Thayle on her back, circling above the army in wide turns. Shadros walked behind Sarah, his head held low as he argued with Mingfe. Yarvine had made suggestions that he belo...

HTN 5-2 A cabin in the swamp

Heather leaped into the air, swinging her scythe with all her might as the beast turned its gaze on her. She connected with the bone of its shoulder, shattering the right arm from its body with a crunch.  Legeis latched on to the left arm to pull it away as it tried to rake her with long metal claws. The bone champion let loose a gout of green fire, scorching the monstrosities chest for the second time, but it kept coming, hurling Legeis aside before dragging deep gouges down the bone ch...

DKP 6-5 The road to war

“How many is that?” Ayawa asked as they crouched low in the grass.

“I see twelve,” Tavis replied and took up his tone again to project his sight. “All wearing the colors of Astikar.”

“They can't be priests,” Gedris added. “If all the men of Astikar we have seen are priests, then it could only mean they pulled men from the war with the Doan. That would be suicide, wouldn't it?”

“Gersius is the bigger threat,” Tavis said.

“He may be the only thr...

Dragon Knight, chapter update.

Sorry this chapter is so late. I wrote a full chapter but after reading it realized it was a mess of random scenes and disjointed ideas. I was trying to cram three chapters of plot points into one chapter as if I needed to rush to the ending. It was also jumping from point of view so rapidly even I found it hard to read.

So... I picked the first logical story point and wrote a whole chapter around it. I am MUCH happier with it now and in the final edits as I write this. So give me two...

I seem to be doing this a lot but the chapter will be a day late. I have it mostly written but I fell asleep at the keyboard a few times and didn't finish it. I have considered taking energy drinks to stay awake to write, but I am worried it might affect my stories, and my health. I may try it once or twice to see how it goes.

So once gain, I am sorry it is late, but it's coming! Thank you all for being so supportive in many ways. It really is a wonderful feeling to know people like w...

HTN 5-1 A new beginning

Bones flew in all directions as Heather hid behind a tipped table, clutching Webster to her chest. She waited for the rain of bone fragments to end before daring to peek and behold the scene.

Legeis stood near the center of the animation circle with singe marks on his armor.  Smoke drifted off the blackened areas as he stood up to peer over the protective shield. All around him were fragments of bones smoldering into piles of ash, filling the air with a choking smell. He lifted the...

Heather News

The chapter is written but I am too tired to finish all my edits. I keep falling asleep at the computer. I promise it will be up tomorrow which is Wednesday for me.  Sorry for all the delays of late, but I have taken to working seven days a week and in some cases ten hours a day. I wont have to keep this pace up forever, but for right now this is really making a difference to my financial situation.

So, I will get the chapter up, and we will move into some light stuff for a little...

DKP 6-4 Love and dreams

Sarah was still awake when Gersius returned to the room and undressed quietly. He climbed into bed as their eyes met, giving her a gentle smile that set her heart racing again. Lilly and Thayle stirred, pulling away and urging her into his arms. For the second time in her life, she mated with a human male. The moment was powerful, filled with sensations she was too overwhelmed to grasp the first time. This human body was made for sharing intimacy and responding to the touch of another in ways...

Chapter is written. I am in the third edit now, but not sure if it will get up tonight. I am going to stay up another hour or so to work on it, but I have to be awake for work in seven hours so if I don't make it, sorry.

I had a lot I wanted to accomplish in this chapter, but I had to condense it down, and then start the true direction of the story arc for this book . Otherwise I would have to write a 15k chapter. I am really tempted to do that one of these days. Just throw caution to t...

HTN 4-27 A new start

“Heather?” a woman's voice called. “Heather, are you alright?”

“Where am I?” she replied.

“You're safe. That's all that matters.”

“I’m safe?”

“For now. I am sorry, but I can only keep you for a little bit. When you wake, you must run; they know where you are.”

“We were already running, but they came too soon.”

“I know. I have been watching you, helping you.”

“Who are you?”

“A friend in the mirror,” the v...

DKP 6-3 A mother at heart.

Gersius waited until they were just outside their private quarters to tell them about the letter. He turned to Thayle and delivered the news he knew was going to wound her.

“What do you mean he’s dead?” Thayle cried as tears began to fill her eyes. She looked to Lilly and Sarah as the two had nothing but empathy for her pain.

Gersius held up the letter and explained where it had come from. Thayle snatched it from his hand and began to read as a hand covered her trembling lip...

Dragon Knight update will be late tonight.

Sorry, I thought I had all day to write today and things went wrong. I have been home for only a couple hours to finish the chapter and edit it. It will get done, and be up as soon as I can get it.

Also welcome and thank you to my new patreons!

HTN 4-26 Too late.

Coins of a dozen sizes and colors filled the chest. Tiny gems set in rings, bracelets, and necklaces glittered in the light. There were several small glass bottles and a thin black wand with a diamond pattern to it.

“Ahh, a good find,” Margus said as he stepped back. “That hag was a high level.”

“We need to fight more of those,” Heather insisted as she stared down at the treasure. Her mind could hardly grasp the wealth that was on display. She wanted to dip both her ha...

Gersius dressed as the women shared the last few moments of calm. He knew what lay ahead for the day and what issue Thayle planned to address. Yarvine would have to be confronted and put and in her place before the tension in the camp grew any worse. Thayle was the one who had to do it and already settled the matter in her heart.

Thayle originally planned to wear her robe of office, but Sarah objected. She felt the Thayle needed to remind them that she was a dragon knight. She should we...

The next chapter is written but I am so tired I can’t do the edit now. I promise it will be up soon, I just need a little sleep so I can clear my head.

I also wanted to talk about something. I have dabbled in reading the wandering inn, and I have noticed that as the book goes on, the chapters get much longer. Some of them are practically small books all to themselves capping in at 50k words. I have also been made aware that some modern fantasy stories have massive chapters fifty or mo...

HTN 4-25 Dangers in the Dark

Heather put on a strong face as they marched into the north. She spoke with the others and hid her concerns, trying to keep the mood light. Inside she was rethinking everything that had happened. From the dreams to the events that led to the confusion of Hathlisora, there was too much to consider. Now the ring and the vision it granted weighed on her mind. Despite that, she was looking forward to the cave and the potential for adventure.

“I am surprised Moon never came back to this to...

DKP 6-1 Forgive yourself

Stars filled a clear sky presided over by the shining luminescence of the silver moon. The world beneath was bathed in its radiant light, softening the shadows to drive away the dark. Dew formed on the grass as the land drifted through the long hours of darkness. A breeze blew in the hills, sweeping over the land to carry the scent of water with it.  It ruffled the curtains that framed the archway of the balcony, finding its way into the stillness of the bedroom. Four beings lay in bed a...

“You can't run!” he shouted as she turned to face them. The narrow confines of the passage through the shadow meant she couldn't fly over them, and blinking would be risky. She turned to face the paladins in pursuit and raised her blazing scythe.

The group came to a halt twenty paces away as their leader stepped forward, glaring at her with a proud smile.

“Your game is over, Hathlisora. We know what you were planning, and the wizards are already dismantling your magical ward...

HTN 4-23 Friend or foe?

Frank grumbled as the last pack of the shambling dead was located and destroyed. The beast that was creating them vanished an hour later, its bloated corpse leaving a stain on the landscape. He was grateful that nobody was seriously harmed, but something still bothered him. He knew about these monsters from the outside world. They were something of a sensation the first time one of them attacked a player area. The internet called it a world event, as players came out like an army to put the f...

“Lilly, come back!” Gersius called as she ran from the chambers with tears in her eyes. A deep, welling of pain filled his heart to see her run from him a second time. Thayle stood nearby, a look of concern on her face as he turned to her for help.

“I just want to do what is right,” he said. “Sarah does not think like us at all.”

“That's because she is a dragon,” Thayle said firmly. “Lilly was just the same when you found her. I seem to recall you telling me abou...

The tension in the air made Heather uncomfortable as Breanne and Skullman gave each other icy glares.

“I take it you know one another?” Heather asked to try and get them speaking.

“We were friends once,” Skullman replied.

“Oh, it was just friends?” Breanne asked with a shake of her head.

“You lied to me,” he accused. “Then ran off without saying a word.”

5-36 Kneel before me

The room was quiet as Thayle sat in meditation, thinking about the events hours before. The city was in an uproar with guards patrolling the streets in groups of twenty or more. Many shops had closed early with rumors that some kind of monster was walking the dark lanes. She was the monster, of course, choosing to walk boldly out the main gate to the gawking stares of the people on the street. She changed forms in a secluded alley but could not extinguish the flames in her eyes. She retreated...

“Heather lives in a tower,” Frank said. “This is some kind of ruin.”

“This room does look familiar,” Quinny said as she walked into it.

Gersius was tired of planning meetings, but he was using them to play his strategy. He went out of his way to invite Yarvine to any meeting that would be full of boring reports or predictions. He even went to some length to include her, asking her opinion on decisions and bogging her down in minute details of logistics.

She argued many points, but he was beginning to build a picture of her plans. She wasn't after control of the army at all; she was trying to delay it....
