Tudor external corners published and more (read below)

I've been working on an inn for some time as most of you know. Using cut-stone and tudor tiles for the first floor, and external tudor tiles for the second floor. What I discovered when I started stacking them is that well, the bases of the tudor tiles frankly look like crap when stacked on as a second level. I did a lot of considering about what I wanted to do, and this set is the result. On the exterior, the stucco and beams now all run all the way to the base, and the base itself on the exter...

They don't just go up, they also go down!

Your Tudor buildings can now level up, with these people risers.  While useful for schlepping things between floors, you can also build stages, decks, daises and other risers with them.

Making OpenForge Grate Again!

We've got a grate release for you this week! Ok, I think I'm done with the puns, for which I'm sure you will all be grateful.  (Whoops, one more slipped out.) I know this isn't useful for the Tavern, but I need a grate for an upcoming game, so I thought I would slip something in between Tavern releases.  We've got every size from 2x2 - 4x4, so it should meet all your grate needs.  Conveniently, the metalworkers who designed the grate itself put in thicker bars every five feet or s...

Bonus Release

I've created a customizer for the bases used for tudor tiles, as well as updated the cut-stone base customizer.  I've added the ability to generate the corner squares that give you more gluing surface for construction kit tiles.  I've also added an option to let the user re-scale the base to imperial from metric.  The rea...

Work Benches Released!

As I continue to round out the kitchen of the tavern, today we get work benches.  These benches are perfect inside a kitchen, smithy, alchemist's lab or any other place where people would be making things.

Thank you all for the well wishes, I'm feeling substantially better!

No release this friday

Sorry, I've had some health problems (complete with an ER visit) that wiped me out this week.  I'm feeling better, but I didn't manage to get enough completed to do a second release this week.  I expect things to return to normal next week.

Bring out your bread! Bring out your bread!

I'm starting the process of filling out the kitchen of the Dirty Goat Tavern. I designed this bread oven after looking at a large number of paintings and real bread ovens from the middle ages. Add a cut-down tea light in the interior to give it a beautiful flickering fire glow. This is the most detailed model I've ever created, though some of that detail is lost in printing.  Every brick is hand textured and different from the others.  This model was an experiment in what level of detai...

Corner Construction Kit Released!

Today I'm releasing the second construction kit, the corner construction kit.  Like the wall construction kit, it will act as a centralized place to find the parts you can use to make hundreds of corner tile variations.  It links to other projects that contain corner construction kit parts. As I release new tiles, I'll add any new parts to the construction kit or one of its sub-projects.  The corner co...

Cut-Stone Square Doors Released!

Another piece needed for the Tavern. I decided to do both wood- and stone-floor variations of this tile.  For dungeons, it will be nice to have access to both square and arched doorways to be able to theme different areas differently.  In my research, I noted that many Tudor buildings have stone lined doors.  I incorporated this into the tavern of the Dirty Goat for the owner's quarters and the kitchen.Grab the 2016-08-16 14:08:38 +0000 UTC View Post

OpenForge 2.0 Tudor External Door Released!

I'm back now from GenCon.  It was a great time, and I got a ton of new ideas while I was there.  While there I picked up a starter for WarMachine and the books for Frostgrave, so there's always a possibility of some terrain pieces that could double duty for RPG and wargames.

I'm continuing to build out the pieces for the second level of the Inn. I've added some pictures of the in process inn to th...

OpenForge 2.0 External Tudor Windows Released!

Important Note: I'm going to GenCon this weekend.  Because of this, I will not be publishing a tile this Thursday or probably next Tuesday.  I should return to the normal release cycle after I get back.

I'm continuing to make progress on the Dirty Goat Tavern.  Working my around the front facade of the second floor, the next thing needed were external windows, so here they are.Like last set, for ease of consumption, I've broken these up into a 2016-08-02 15:07:21 +0000 UTC View Post

OpenForge 2.0 External Tudor Wall Variations Released!

To go with the set on Tuesday, I've filled out the rest of the tudor wall variations.  We now have a full set of 1x1 - 4x4 of external cross beam walls along with 2x2 of all the diagonal variations.  Like usual, if you want some of the diagonal variations in some other size, ping me and I'll get them released.Grab the cross beam and the 2016-07-28 16:12:47 +0000 UTC View Post

OpenForge 2.0 Tudor External Walls Released!

As I start on the second level of the Dirty Goat Inn, I need external tudor walls so that we get the appropriate overhang that you see on the second story of tudor buildings. Like all other sets, we start off with walls for the tudor external set.

This set like the internal version has many many variations. I've split it up differently this time to make it a little easier for people to sort through. This release is for the 2016-07-26 14:46:43 +0000 UTC View Post

OpenForge Shrine Released!

I was getting a little antsy to do something other then tiles for the tavern, so I created this shrine.

This piece has many possible uses. It can act as a shrine, part of a dungeon puzzle, a place where players find an item or a sacrificed body.

There are two main variations, the shrine, which has four pillars and a roof, with molding, and the wall shrine which has two half pillars and a roof with molding. The Shrine can be set anywhere, the wall shrine is designed to bu...

OpenForge 2.0 Cut Stone Square Window Released!

Having designed square windows for the tudor style, I thought it would be good to back-port them to the cut-stone series. Like the tudor windows, I've designed this set of windows to be able to take the inserts that dwarven forge uses for it's city builder system.

OpenForge 2.0 Tudor Diagonals Released!

With this, I've got all the tiles designed that are needed for the first floor great room of the Tavern.  I need to do a fair amount of printing and painting, but as soon as I have, I'll post out pictures of how the tavern is coming along.

This set has two versions.  One with diagonal bases and the other with square bas...

OpenForge 2.0 Tudor and Cut-Stone "Pillars" Released!

This piece serves at least two purposes. First, it can resolve the gap that forms when you create a corner with two wall pieces. Second, it can be used as a structural beam to help hold up additional levels.  It also happens to be a necessary set of pieces for the tavern.  To see some uses, and get a preview of how these will be used in the tavern, take a peak at the pictures on Thingiverse.

Since this tile was a rather simple build, I've gone ahead and created multiple sets at o...

OpenForge 2.0 Tudor Windows Released!

I'm getting close to being able to build the first floor of the inn and tavern.  Windows are, of course, a critical piece.  As soon as I can build the main hall, I'll start posting photos of the building as it progresses through new tile releases.

The final building will have:

  • two floors
  • an open balcony over a stage
  • 5 rooms for rent
  • a kitchen
  • a bedroom for the innkeeper's family

OpenForge 2.0 Cut-Stone Celtic Knotwork Tiles Released!

Many times I've built a dungeon with what is supposed to be an impressive room for the boss fight.  Those rooms screamed out for additional decoration to help make clear the narrative importance of the room.  All I've had in the past are a few tiles that have some designs on them, but nothing that was modular to let me build out the designs to really fit the room.

Well, no longer.

The Celtic knotwork floor tiles have all the modular bits you would e...

Housekeeping

Couple things I just want to update you on.

  • While caverns got upvoted a lot on the survey, Lifeburn on thingiverse has been going gangbusters on creating a nice cavern set, and I really suggest you all check it out.  It's not OpenForge 2.0 compatible, but frankly I'm not sure if I would have found a design that both feels as organic and works with OpenForge 2.0 bases in my own cavern d...

OpenForge Wall Construction Kit Released!

I'm sure you've noted that over the past month or two, I've been experimenting with designing tiles with parts that are painted separately then glued together.  External tiles, by their nature, are already suited to being built this way.  Getting the internal tiles built out so they could do it took a bit of rework and a lot of print testing, and now I think they are ready.

OpenForge 2.0 Cut-Stone Venus Frieze Wall Released!

Let's art this place up!  The single most popular pieces in the last survey were dressing pieces, so I've been aiming to create more.  This tile uses a marble frieze from the 1700s titled "Venus Reclining on a Sea Monster with Cupid and a Putto"

A big process deviation on this release is that I'm only publishing the two most common sizes I see this being used in (2x2 and 2x4), and I'm publishing the external and internal wall pieces at the same time.  If you want another siz...
