Naturally, I spent some time doing studies while taking in all that new knowledge. Up there are some (no ref) figure studies I did after watching a drawing demonstration by Glenn Vilppu. Really soothing old guy with a very rhythmic, productive approach to drawing. Recommended!

Some other things: face studies (with ref) with a method presented by Steve Huston, also a good art person. Some of them are janky, but at least I know what to address next. And then there's some important painting pract...

violet evergarden again

This month, I've been spending time looking into a lot of things, watching drawing videos and all that. I learned things about digital brushwork, colors and construction, and I feel like I need to test it all out now. So I will! But first, here's some stuff I did over the past week, starting with another Violet portrait.

I tried out a lot of new things here, so there are a few places I'm sure I'll be improving on over time. For now though, I want to consider this kind of a first step ...

I finished another page

I wasn't sure what to work on yesterday, so I took out another storyboard page and finished it! I have a better idea of the workflow now, so I think finishing them should take a bit less time than it did at first.

The protagonist's look is different once again. So much time has passed between the initial designs, the storyboards and then the finalizing stage that I can't help but change things! But I should start settling on something soon.

Violet Evergarden

It was only natural that I would end up drawing a piece for Violet Evergarden, a very inspiring show in many respects. There's not a thing I don't love about the show, except maybe that it only airs once a week. But even then, I think having just one of her beautiful experiences to look forward to each week is part of it, too.

I definitely spent the most time on the face, or everything above her shoulders, really. That was kind of the important part I wanted to focus on getting right, so I hop...

The Strategist Princess

This character is meant to be a princess who doesn't fight on her own, but rather commands troops with her staff. A strategist princess of sorts. I imagined that it's a role traditionally passed down through the royal family, but there's actually a deeper story behind it all... which is all I'll say for now! Anyway, not to say I have much in the works right now. It's just yet another idea on the ever-expanding table of things to do.

I got the coveted Apple Pencil in the mail yesterday, so I went straight to testing it in Procreate. I'm really impressed by both of them, and I also feel very fortunate to have access to all this technology!

I really like the pencils so far, but I still have to try out all the other brushes in the app. I can tell I'll be drawing with it a lot!
