Good morning to everyone at the peanut house. It’s been raining all week so progress has been slow, but we still do have some exciting news to share. Watch the video to find out!

It’s an understatement to say how much progress we made last week. What started as an empty truss roof, wobbling in the wind, ended with a tarp over the bedroom wing and a shift of focus to the kitchen and clerestory. ep.34 what's the plan now?

Last week, we finished the roof. We built the garage, sheathed it completely, and installed the tarps. Great. What's next? Well, you guessed it—more roofing! This week, we focus on the bedroom wing and cover almost everything leading up to our emergency permit. Join us as we discuss the details of our planning and what it takes to get a roof up with just two people.

First, it was the cleaning. Then, the landscaping. Then, the demo. Last, the metal. After countless weeks of work, we’ve finally made it. Our second biggest milestone is here: the roof has arrived. This week we have an extra long episode filled with extra content that did not make it onto the big screen.

This week at the Peanut House things get a little frustrating. What we through was a nice and level concrete slab turned into a small disaster that ended up taking a week to fix. On top of that, word came in from our building envelope consultant about our metal roof... Tune in to this and more! The best thing to do in the evening is to prepare for the next day! So here we are, 9pm at Home Depot buying lumber to be used tomorrow morning.

Sometimes, things don't go as planned. After spending over two months searching for a roofing company without any luck, we knew something had to change. Listen as we discuss the ins and outs of our roofing adventures and share our plan moving forward.

This week, we began installing the metal—well, part of it. As is often the case, things didn’t go as smoothly as planned. After spending a total of 80 hours drilling holes into our foundation, we completed only half of what we intended. Tune in this week to hear all about the details of our installation, what’s coming next, and the future of the Peanut House.

ep.27 the calm before the storm

We are ready. The house is ready. The metal is ready. It's a big week coming up, probably the most important step in our entire journey. Tune in to hear our demolition story, some follow-up discussion on spray foam insulation, and, last but not least, what to expect next week. the peanut house got an upgrade

No roof. No bin. No more demo. What’s next? METAL! For the next few months we will be focused on rebuilding as opposed to tearing down. Next week marks the beginning of that chapter. Stay tuned with more updates to come.

Did I say curveball? Just when we thought everything would be delayed exponentially, we somehow figured out how to make it work. this week we poured a new foundation section

What a busy week it's been! With the help of Demo Dave, Mystery Man, and our latest team member, Alexa, we were able to finish all the excavation and preparation required for our new "grade beam." It might seem like overkill, but due to the extremely high load and poor soil conditions, there was no other option. This is just a small preview of what's to come in next week's video!

This week, we got hit by a curveball. Just when we thought we could finish everything on time, our geotechnical engineer came back with a new plan for the footing—and we only have one week to implement it. Tune in as we discuss everything we've fixed, everything we've added, and all the new tasks we need to tackle. We'll also answer some great technical questions from our Nosey Neighbours: How did we choose the company for our windows? Where is the new furnace going, and where are we running the ductwork?
