How many drugs was Stephen King on? All of them

I know it's no longer Spooky Month (rip) but I did see Doctor Sleep yesterday on Halloween. It's the sequel to The Shining and it was OK! Very strange, as expected with Stephen King stories, but some of the weirdest lost me.

I saw The Shining as a kid alone near Halloween so it's always close to my heart. This one is not the same, but still worth a watch if you're interested. I wouldn't say it's a straight horror film, but there are definitely some parts that were upsetting and dark. View Post

YUM

Here's the pasta I made on the Best Buds livestream this week - was eaten in approx .64 seconds.

Give it time!

The first half of this movie is pretty lame - the usual jump-scare stuff. But the end was really surprising and I actually didn't see the twist coming. Currently Eli is on UK Netflix, too, so it's an easy one to find and a pretty easy watch!

I told my parents about it and they watched it - also said it was interesting! Definitely not my favourite, but it'll work in a pinch if you're looking for a spook'em.

Yawn

As we continue through Spooky Month, I watched the new "In the Tall Grass" on Netflix. Oh my, very boring. The concept is fairly anxiety-inducing if you think about the idea of getting lost in tall grass and unable to get out - everything else is pretty lame.

You win some, you lose some!

Ooof!! So much good-ness!

What a great film! I watched Parasite knowing absoutely nothing - just that some people I knew said it was good. Didn't know the genre (I thought it was supposed to be a horror film?) Didn't know the actors. Didn't know the plot.

A really fantastic movie if you're up for reading subtitles. I would even recommend not reading the synopsis and go into it blind. A new favourite movie!!

Worth a watch!

For all the talk about Joker lately, I was surprised! It was so tame!

I'm not into Superhero movies, Marvel or DC alike. However, this is very much leaning towards a drama instead, which I really appreciated it. Joaquin Phoenix is great and some scenes are a bit hard to watch.

I know some people were upset that this film sympathises with "incel-shooters" and I didn't feel that at all - Much more about how the system fails those with mental illness. Overall I thought it was f...

What's your personality?

Have you tried this test? I always end up with INFJ, or "The Advocate"

"The Advocate personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. Advocates have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is that they are not idle dreamers. These individuals are capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.

People with this personality type ...

Spooky Month - watch at your own risk!

I saw Wolf Creek the other night (I think it's available on both Netflix and Amazon Prime) Yikes! It's OK as a horror movie, pretty gross, pretty upsetting... it's actually "based" on a true story called the Backpack Murders in Australia which itself is incredibly dark...

For all my fellow Spookems out there - have you seen this one?

Must listen!

I just finished listening to The Thing About Pam and WOW. What a fantastic podcast!

This one is a true crime mystery, so it's not for everyone, but the story itself is unbelievable and the podcast itself is super high-quality.  Dateline NBC produce one of my favourite true crime TV shows "Dateline" which has been running longer than I've been alive.

If you're looking for a new podcast, I would definitely recommend it. I can't believe the story is true!

Are you on Goodreads?

I haven't been super active on Goodreads lately, but I always try to log my books whenever I finish them! If you've never used it before, it's a website you can sign up for free and track your books - primarily ratings, but you can even add reviews if you want. I like to use it so I can remember what I've read (and plus it feels good to add a book to your "finished" list!)

I'm still reading The Goldfinch - and loving it. I don't know if I'll actually watch the film or not, since it's su...

DOG

The first time I went to London it was only for a few days in high school. During this particular trip during college, I actually stayed for a week or so. It's hard to imagine a time I didn't need glasses...

And of course, I had to get my picture with a pup - I think this one was the Victoria and Albert museum?? What a beauty.

Back into space we go..

I love a space movie. I know that, you know that. I was really pumped to see Ad Astra and - it was OK! Everyone has been saying that it's the "next masterpiece" and I really don't see it.

It's a beautiful film, with lots of deep and dark human experiences - great! But is it a masterpiece? No. It's a bit too pretentious for me. Definitely worth a watch, though!

Oh, say can you see..!

Look at this giant haul! I contacted A Taste of the States awhile back and they gave me a £25 gift card - bought this for an Eat This video! I couldn't even try all of it for the video (had a sugar nap after eating half of it).

If you guys want to give them a try, visit: https://atasteofthestates.com and you can use ALANNA15 for 15% off. (I don't see any of that money, so please don't buy it just to support me..) But...

Happy Spooky Month!

Started off Spooky Month with the Exorcism of Emily Rose - couldn't remember if I had seen it before or not.

It was fine! Not that scary, or spooky, but I liked that it takes the viewpoint of a criminal trial rather than a typical spook-em. Interesting take, at the very least!

Is there such a thing as a perfect movie?

If there is, it's probably Raiders.

When I was a kid (and adult) I wanted to be Indiana Jones so it's not surprising that I went and saw the remastered film at the cinema with the special screen (some kind of special lasers??) Either way, they have the reclining leather chairs and a giant Indie on the screen - so yes please.

While some of the scenes definitely do not hold up well with time (uh, the ending??) it's still one of my favourite movies and I can't help but smile wh...

Murder Friends!

Thank you to everyone who gave Murder Friends a listen lately, even if you didn't enjoy it! This is us last year (?) when we saw My Favorite Murder live in Amsterdam. MFM is a podcast we all love and ended up meeting because of it. Funny how things happen!

There's a new MF episode up today if you're interested, with a handful already released: https://anchor.fm/murder-friends

October Youtube Livestream!

Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up that I'll be doing another Youtube Livestream on Thursday 3 Oct at 7pm! I've inserted an announcement in an upcoming video to let everyone else know, but wanted to give you guys an early notice.

Not sure what I'll be doing.. if it's anything like last time, I won't be able to do much of anything since the chat is so hard to follow! We'll see.

Hope to see you there! If not, I'll post it onto YT like I did the last one :)

Cool set! OK movie!

I watched Session 9 the other night - it was fine! The building they film in really makes the movie, but the story could have been better.

Do you have a favourite horror movie? I would love to get a list going for Spooky Month!

Are you ready to read subtitles?

I didn't know what to watch the other night, so I put on Veronica on Netflix. It's fine! It's not really that spooky, but there are some good parts and some good child actors, plus some great sets and a really good "feeling".

An article was circling around awhile back saying this was the scariest movie on Netflix. Is it scary? No. Is it worth watching? Sure! But are you ready to read subtitles?
