Behind The Scenes - The Suicide Girls Comic

In 2012 I worked on 4 issues of the Suicide Girls comic book, published by IDW under license from Suicide Girls, the “alternative” softcore erotica website. I had been doing some work for SG on the website, providing some illustrations and logo and t-shirt designs, and I was friendly with the owner. Kink Show Rough 2

This one I abandoned, because I wasn’t fully satisfied with the composition. I drew several rough concepts before going to final inked pieces and while I do like this drawing I think it wasn’t strong enough to exhibit. (I was grateful to receive help and inspiration from @sunnylildee on instagram)

Here's a long real-time (16 min) video of me inking a panel from Otto & Olya, which I have decided to ink on paper going forward. The pen I'm using is a Pilot Falcon which I picked up years ago. It's an expensive fountain pen but hopefully one that I will have forever, I really like the line that it creates. I am filling in blacks with a Pentel Pocket Brush. A return to ink

I was talking with an artist friend of mine recently about how both of us are struggling with feeling bored and unmotivated in our work. He suggested that it was maybe time to return to old tools and practical drawing instead of doing everything digitally like we both have done for over a decade now.

It’s a little anemic, I think, the drawing is a bit flat and I don’t like a lot of the anatomy, and the colors are a bit garish. I felt like revisiting it and making a better effort with the line work:

Sketchbook doodling

I've decided to try and do more of my exploratory process in a sketchbook instead of digitally. It was really satisfying to draw with pencil on paper, something that I don’t do nearly enough of these days. These were sketches I drew this afternoon, trying to come up with ideas for some pieces for a fetish-themed art show I have coming up.

I’ve been going through one of my periodic stretches of artist’s block, so I am trying to find ways to break out of it. I decided to go through some very old drawings that I was never happy with enough to share and redraw them as an exercise to break out of the indecision. This one is from about 5 or 6 years ago.
