Where Do You Want to Read Kherishdar4?

On one hand... Patreon! It comes to you in email! But the comment system is the *worst comment system ever*!

On the other hand... Wordpress! It does not come to you in email, or at least, I'm not sure, I should check to see if there's a plugin! But the comment system is at least sane!

Which do you want?

June 2018 Progress Report

This one will be kind of short! Because June was discombobulated, with family in the hospital and then other family showing up for a week-long vacation. (Yes, things are fine. Thank you for worrying!) Let's get to it.

Writing Progress

I mentioned last month that I wanted to get something out the door, so I threw all my prior plans out the window and finished editing Sword of the Alliance (as I mentioned in my post about career writer challenges). That involved m...

Coracle, Chapter 25: The Boy Knight

Coracle continues! The index is now at the bottom. Visitors, this is the first book of my new Middle Grade/YA novel, being serialized for coffee cup subscribers in advance of Kickstarter and publication. <3

***

Marda said goodbye to Josephire, who wanted to stay in the Arboretum past the required period, and that was fine, because she would see him tomorrow and there was someone else she wanted to talk to, and not much time to get to him. They had some free time between th...

The Challenges of Career Authors, Plus, a Teaser

I am on my way to Anthrocon! I hope to see some of you there! (You can consult my schedule here to figure out where I'll be, or ping me on twitter.) Meanwhile, we continue our week of free Patreon content with a writing craft/quasi-business/quasi-“fans will enjoy this” post! Today: challenges no one warned me about.

You can find lots of books about how to write anything from essays to novels. You can fi...

Worldbuilding: History Is Where You Find It

We continue our week of free coffee-cup content! Today, a digression about worldbuilding that occurred to me while working on more of my "author doodle" books. I've done several of these so far--all of them sold out!--but I wanted to do something special for the first edition Admonishments I had left. Since this setting has my most fully developed constructed language, the obvious choice was adding calligraphy.

Business Post: The Audio Conundrum

I've decided this week to unlock the content I'd usually reserve for the coffee cup tier ($5 a month), so you can see what goes on behind the curtain! And, you know, decide if you'd like to join. *grin* Today, then, a discussion of the Audio Conundrum. ErraticTransparency wanted to know if the Jokka audiobooks would be available at retailers now that their serialization is complete, and I said, 'the answer to that is complicated'. Which it is. Lemme 'splain.

Let's set the scene first. Print sa...

Princes' Game Art: End of the Road (Cuddlepile)

I wanted to do something relaxing the other day (and also push through my lingering art block), so I found the wireframe for this one and decided to develop it. Jahir, Vasiht'h, Sediryl, Lisinthir, the Queen, and the Emperor, at the end of the series. SO MANY HANDS. So much clothes. So many happy expressions. <3

(This is probably one of my favorite pictures of Jahir. That looks just like him! I even got his lips right. *bounces*)

Since I was photographing this one frequently to share ...

It's July! Some News for the Upcoming Week!

Happy July, everyone! Wow, the year is half-sped, when did that happen. o_o

This is just a quick update post! First a sales thing:I've been going through some of my extra book stock and drawing in them for people who might have missed the chance to grab an autographed/remarqued copy from one of the Kickstarters. Those are going up in my Etsy store here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Studio...

Final Prep: Next Kickstarter

I'd like to tidy up the graphics and add a video, but this one's just about ready to go. My plan is mid-July! And even if you're not into the Princes' Game series, you might want to toss a buck in to get the short story, which bridges the gap between "Family" and the duo's appearance in PG2. :)

Wheel! Of! Emotions!

I found this and thought it was interesting (though pride is missing? Interesting?). Anyway, it is the wheel of emotions as visualized by Robert Plutchik, whom you can read about here. If you don't love this wheel, you can fall down a rabbit hole in Wikipedia's entry about the contrasting and categorizat...

Art: Horse Practice

Since there's no summer camp this week, some other random doodles! This is horse practice. (No pencil, no erasing... just grab fat markers, look at photos, and go.)

Not too bad, I guess. I always get the placement of the eyes wrong, so this was good practice.

Week One as a Full-Time Creative Jaguar

I’ve completed my first week as a full-time artist/writer! And I thought you all might want to know about it, since you are part of what made that happen. So far it is about what I expected. I wasn’t really concerned about not getting enough work done, and that wasn’t a problem; even not pushing, I got more done in the week than I get done while timesharing with a Day Hobby of any kind. I spent the week cautiously exploring what other issues I might have to surmount to settle into a comfor...

Slowdown

Some various things have come up, and I've been involved with them for a while and will probably will continue to be for another week, maybe longer, so... things might go up a little more slowly than usual.

Thanks for your patience! Have an old but relevant drawing.

May 2018 Progress Report: So Not the Drama

Oh, May. What a month you were. So much Day Hobby drama, culminating in me quitting early! Drama used up way too much of my mental cycles. *sad headshake* Well, at least that situation won’t obtain for much longer! So let’s talk about what I managed last month, despite craziness.

Writing Progress

First, and happily, the draft of Coracle is done! And it’s right where I expected it, too, just over 60K. It needs editing, and a lot of art, so I’m going to sit with it...

Yay!

Our extra All Fan Chat Day "celebrate end of Day Hobby" party was fantastic! Thank you to those of you who attended! There was much arting, and chatting, and revelation of yet MORE ridiculous stuff as I exited. I even did this broken/stumbly jaguar run cycle which is not too bad for my first run cycle ever. And the 'stumbling' thing is appropriate for someone who is tripping her way out of a toxic situation and FLEEING FOR FREEDOM.

I am taking it easy today, and then... it's time to do stuff. ...

Special Extra All Fan Chat Day!

That's right, we're having a second All Fan Chat Day this month to celebrate my last day at Day Hobby! Which is today! So I'll be in and out sporadically until later in the afternoon (EST). But come by and talk with us!

All-Fan Chat Day takes place in the #audiencehall channel. We're also having a 'make something on a theme' day, based on the themes 'freedom and celebration', so if you want to participate in that you're welcome to.

I hope to see you all! <3

Interregnum (In More Ways Than One)

This is the week after the end of school and before the beginning of summer camp. It's also the last week at Day Hobby; I work Tuesday and Wednesday is my last day. Check out the terribly appropriate fortune cookie message I got with my coworkers last week. *grin*

All this means that lunch bags will resume next week. Coffee cup subscribers, you're still getting your normal content this week (two audiobook hours, two freebies, and Coracle on Friday). But everyone's invited to Wednesday's celebr...

How Am I Doin'?

Every once in a while I like to check in and see if y'all are happy with the Patreon. Right now everyone gets lunch bags, cat pictures, and news, and Coffee Cup folks are getting art, audio, sneak peeks, excerpts, worldbuilding stuff, etc. Is this working for y'all? Any suggestions? I'm all ears. :D

HoltCast, Episode 1: In Which We Get Our Bearings

At CaptainQ's suggestion, we've decided to start an (ad hoc for now) podcast-like thing, recorded on Discord. This first episode is an introductory one, and I talk briefly with CaptainQ about the Kickstarter, Patreon, the All Fan Chat Day, pronunciations, etc.

We'd love to get questions to answer, and topic suggestions! And if people are interested in 'attending' we can post the times we're recording so you can listen 'live.'

Anyway, enjoy. :D
