Weekly Digimon Comic: Digimon Tamers - page 12

I'm literally having trouble coming up with anything to say on this point, because everything that comes to mind is something I want to bring in later Jeri-related episodes.

So, instead, I'll just apologize for the schedule being a bit wonky lately due to Otakon travels, and also remind everyone that there's still a vote going on to pick which OTHER weekly anime series I do next. Hey, i...

Yeah, I know it's an old joke, but sometimes the old jokes are the best jokes.

Anyway, while the first half of this OVA is a bit plain looking, I really like the art design in the second half. "God" has some excellent old-school anime villain vibes going on, and I really like the glowing statues around the big temple. Those things look straight out of some European Prog Rock album cover.

And with that, I've FINALLY finished up the last of the 2023 convention comic... literally halfway into 2024. Yeah, I'll hopefully get getting the Animazement Patreon stuff out a BIT faster than this, ideally before the public Otakon comics are done.

...but also, HOLY CRAP. You only need to scroll down a bit through my Patreon to see how overzealous I am about Christmas, and even I was disgusted by this shameful display. Show at least a BIT of self control, random radio station, I beg y...

In all fairness, that's pretty much how I play fighting games myself, so I can't exactly judge Takato's choice in strategy.

Also, there's probably some jokes to be made at the expense of the gameplay mechanics in a lot of the Digimon video games that have been released over the years, but as previously established, I'm really not qualified to make those jokes.

Hey, remember that episode of Osomatsu-san that got banned because it violated too many copyrights? Well that sure weren't no thing back in the 80s, I'll tell you what.

No, seriously, Dirty Pair is no stranger to the artists slipping in little goofy bits to amuse themselves, but WOW they took it to another level with this one. There's always a lot of room for fun in a Halloween episode, and they took absolutely every single opportunity they could find. And I...

THIS COMIC IS NOT A SAFE SPACE AND I WILL SHAME YOUR KINK EVERY BIT AS MUCH AS IT DESERVES.

Also, just to reiterate what I said over on the DIrty Pair comic, I'm working to get next week's comics finished over the weekend and queued up to go live while I'm at Otakon. But since I don't manage to be that far ahead very often, I can't promise that I won't horribly screw something up in the process. We'll just have to see what happens.

It's not often you see the worst drawing of Kevin Owens in the entire history of the world... and here's THREE of them all at once! It's a miracle! But yeah, like I was saying before, this is ALSO about the first OVA, so we won't actually be getting to number two until NEXT week.

And speaking of which, some housekeeping: (Hey, Future Me, don't copy/paste this part when this comic is sent out to the general public!) Since I'll be at Otakon next weekend, I'm gonna TRY to go ahead and get...

No, seriously. The con had a bunch of booths set up in the hotel lobby for various companies selling stuff, and one of them had a bunch of anime character cutouts set up around their table. And on Sunday morning, while everybody was busy waking up and clearing out their hotel rooms, I see this pack of kids just wander on over and walk out with one of the things! Like, they clearly weren't staff and it wasn't part of tear down or anything. They just up and stole the thing!

And after wi...

To be clear, this shouldn't be taken as me HATING Diebuster or anything, I like it fine. And yes, I know there's a movie edit or something that actually does cut it and Gunbuster together... but MAN I can't imagine how that would work.

But yeah! At long last, I've FINALLY completed the bonus comics! Sorry it took so long, but ya can't say we didn't get plenty of material out of it. I mean, sixteen pages from a six-part OVA? That's fairly impressive, I ...

IT'S TIME TO VOTE ON ANIME AGAIN!

IT'S TIME TO DECIDE AGAIN, PEOPLE! When I finish working my way through the Dirty Pair OVAs, I wanna go ahead and have the next Weekly Anime already lined up and ready to go... AND NO, IT'S NOT JUST GONNA BE DIRTY PAIR FLASH. We gotta have some variety. And on that note, I've lined up a list of candidates that are all BRAND NEW to the vote: Bubblegum Crisis, Mobile Suit...

And thus, we bravely move forward into the OFFICIAL start of the Dirty Pair OVA era... with me complaining about stuff. EXCELSIOR!

But seriously, "By Yourself" isn't a BAD song by any means, I just think it really pales in comparison to "Russian Roulette." Also, as long as I'm playing music critic again, I also feel like the song isn't really energetic enough to properly fit the Dirty Pair vibe. Like, it's not exactly somber or anything, but I do feel like it isn't as fun as it reall...

Dude, if I actually let myself do it, I could probably waste everyone's time with an obscure 60s/70s scifi reference for every single episode. It's only because I care for you that you don't have to endure me straining to mash together Digimon and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century every week. I'd do it. I've got it in me.

No, seriously, if there's not some anime podcast out there called "Degeneracy Generators" then I'll be... well, not "disappointed," since that would imply that I have or will ever listen to podcasts. At the very least, though, I'd me mildly surprised.

Seriously, think about. Virtually every cliche people think of when they think of Gainax is in effect in the final episode of Gunbuster, except this time they actually stick the landing in a conclusive and satisfying way. No budgetary collapse at the end, no psychological implosion mid-way through, no Island Arc; they just NAIL everything they set out to do with this thing. That's a rare thing in the Gainax filmography and should be commended.

But if you think I'm being a bi...

Whichever artist was responsible for adding in the random english text in this diagram has really fun taste in movies. I'd totally subscribe to that guy's YouTube channel.

BUT ANYWAY, that officially wraps up our coverage of DIrty Pair's TV run... two episodes AFTER is technically stopped running on TV. But yeah, next week we kick off the OFFICIAL run of OVAs!

I had ENTIRELY too much fun making up parodies of YouTube clickbait thumbnails for this... and of course, Patreon scaled it down too much to read most of the text. Don't worry, though, you can just lick on the image and see a less blurry version.

...but yeah, this isn't even one of those "Oh, that aged poorly" things people bring up today to feel smarter than people older than themselves. I vividly remember even back when episode 10 first came out, everybody was making Bad Touch jokes ...

Heck, I wrote this page over a week ago, and just in the time between then and posting it on Patreon, we've had MORE than one downpour right before I was supposed to do something. I just barely avoided a mini-monsoon right before heading out for anime night.

Clearly, a lot of people in North Carolina are having trouble getting their Digimon to revert back to their regular size.

That's right! This technically the "last" episode of Dirty Pair! ...or at least the last one to air on TV. The final two episodes of the show would end up being the first two examples of a Dirty Pair OVA, which we'll obviously be seeing more of in the immediate future.

In the meantime, go look at Kei's outfit in this episode: a tan girl with wild red hair running around barefoot in a shoulder-less yellow/white top and blakc shorts... is this what Radical Edward is gonna look like all ...

Just a quick heads up (Far Out There stories)

Heeeeeeeeey, you know that Far Out There story I started writing way back, like, a million years ago? Well, don't worry, anybody who's actually a high enough tier patron to read blog/article/story posts like that, this isn't me saying I'm abandoning it or anything. I really am still working on the next chapter. Still, in case it wasn't already obvious, it was kind of a MASSIVE mistake for me to try and dive right into a long-form, more-or-less novel length story idea as my first attempt at...
