Patreon Mega Marathon: I plan to compose 1 song a day for one week!

Here comes my personal Patreon Mega Marathon: I plan to compose 1 song a day for one week to create a whole new mini album (like an EP) before the year ends!

I will also release previews for this EP every day for every preview tier backer and one completed mixed and mastered track for all Patrons by the end of the month as usual! The preview backers can even vote on which of the preview tracks to finish on the last day! Then I plan to do the final mixing and mastering of all the tracks early January and all Patrons will receive this whole album as a download immediately!

It will be exciting to see what I can come up with considering the tight timeframe and I’m looking forward to your suggestions, feedback and discussion around this experiment!

Let me know what you think! :)

Update 1:  I found a fitting name for the album: 7 Days, 7 Songs! :)

New piece "Elation (Holiday Edition)" ready

Hi Everyone,

It's almost the end of the year and I think most of us can't wait for 2020 to be over... ;) But even with all the hardships and craziness one can always find a positive note - and that's exactly what I like this latest piece to represent, a positive outlook into the future and a much better coming year! I started 3 times this month to come up with something appropriate to fit with the upcoming holidays, only to find it not catching the right mood. So I started over once again very late in the process (2 days ago), but I think I finally got it right!

Happy Holidays! :)

Sales tax on Patreon pledges explained and upcoming changes

Hi everyone,

While working hard on the latest track, I wanted to take a moment to talk about sales tax that had already been added by Patreon by law in certain countries, particularly in Europe since 2015.

Beginning July 1st a lot of US states and other countries are also requiring sales tax or VAT being collected.

The good news is however that Patreon also now has given us creators more control of how pledges are broken down into different reward categories. This could actually result in lower sales tax for most of you going forward (with this tool I was able to select an ever higher value to "general artist support", because that might not be taxable compared to digital downloads for example)!

Here is more detailed info about these changes:  https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043054911

Thanks again everyone for your amazing support! :)

New piece "Flight Of The Fairlight" ready! :)

Hi Everyone,

When I was a teenager, there was one particular music "machine" that was the stuff of legends: The Fairlight CMI (Computer Musical Instrument), an Australian invention, which was the first fully functional Sampler (you can read about it in detail here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairlight_CMI ).

Compared to my early love of Synthesizers, which I couldn't afford, the Fairlight was in another universe, costing easily 5 to even 6 figures and was usually reserved to the absolute top earners in the music business (like Peter Gabriel, Jan Hammer, Art of Noise etc.)!

But since a few days ago, I own one... well, sort of! ;) The French company Arturia made a pretty good recreation of this classic machine as a plugin, part of their V-Collection. I had a version of this collection, but not the latest that included the Fairlight, until now.

And what better way to celebrate this momentous addition to my arsenal by creating a brand new track with just this one Plugin... It's been an absolute blast to create this. The Fairlight definitely has some quirks and though it may not have the fidelity of modern samplers with its lower bit- and sample rate, the overall sound it produces has a very special and unique vibe that is difficult to achieve any other way. Enjoy! :)

Let's take this project to the next level!

Hi everyone,

First of all, I wanted to thank you all so much for making this Patreon project possible! It has now resulted in over 30 cool (royalty-free) tracks, 3 albums and it has become an important part to sustain my artistic adventures and give me freedom outside of the games industry.

Over the years I noticed that getting new fans to sign up still is a bit of a challenge. One possibility is that my original choice of support per song (or "per creation" in Patreon lingo) may confuse new potential Patrons about what they're in for in terms of budget. Even though Patreon offers to set a limit per month and I have never released more than one paid post per month, I have come to the conclusion that switching to the "monthly" support scheme would be easier to understand and an overall cleaner way to present this project.

One reason I originally opted for "per creation" was that I didn't want anyone to pay if I couldn't release a new track in a month because of possible other commitments. But over the last 2 years or so I have kept up with releasing at least one piece per month even with other pressures weighing down on me, so I'm confident that I can keep up (also, there is actually still an option to suspend the project and not charge if I needed to).

For all current Patrons everything stays the same - you're still supporting me with the same amount as before and I still create at least one new track per month, but I hope that this change will translate in many more supporters joining this amazing ride and who knows, soon I can provide you with even more content. Let's do it together! :)

New piece "Generations" ready!

This month I'm channeling one of my heroes of synth and electronic film scores: John Carpenter! I was recently working on some demo pieces for video work by a friend since he was searching for some Carpenter-esque evolving drones. Also featured in this piece are some melodies I actually composed while at Rainbow Arts in 1990... I went through my old tapes (all digitized and archived a long time ago of course) which have hundreds of compositions that were never used or fully developed and it's great to have that as a resource... :)

Here is the lossless WAV:

Trying another live stream tomorrow, for all of you this time! :)

Hi everyone,

My last live stream a few days ago didn't work too well, particularly with the audio, but I think I have found a good solution now and want to try once more. Tune in to learn what my exciting plans are for this Patreon project going forward - I'll post the live stream link tomorrow at the same time as before (12pm PST, 21:00 CET)! :)

New Track: Visions Of Tyrell

"Visions Of Tyrell" is a homage to the amazing Blade Runner Soundtrack by Vangelis, with a mix of orchestral sounds, moody FX and huge bold synths...   this piece is based on work I had done a while ago on a game project that unfortunately didn't work out. Audio stems and Midi for the higher pledge levels coming in a few days. Enjoy! :)

A new piece is coming together! :)

It's been quite a while since I posted an update, but I finally found time and the right inspiration to work on a brand new piece. Stay tuned because I plan to post it in the next few days. Higher pledge Patrons will get a preview and I'm still figuring out how I can live stream to just a small group or if I rather put together a downloadable video about the track development. In any case, I'm very excited and I hope you are too... :)

Chris

ps: it's not the piece from the introduction video. But that one is also still work in progress and will be released later.
