BOAC 500 1967 - Chaparral 2F #1

For the WSC60s Chaparral 2F.

Crazy thing; I made all the 2F racing liveries.. Except the only one which won a race outright! Despite being dominant (both in real life and in the WSC mod) in terms of raw speed, the 2F suffered from reliability issues which often cut it's race short. However, in the final WSC season race of 1967, the Brands Hatch BOAC 500, the Chaparral scored an unexpected win, beating Lola and Ferrari.

Enjoy!

By the way, we really need a 60's ...

Daytona 24 Hours 1969 - Chevrolet Camaro #32

For the ACL TA Camaro.

My favourite muscle car, the Camaro, may be best known for the Roger Penske modified Sunoco specials, despite there being a tonne of privateer entries in the SCCA, USRRC and Trans-Am.

This one entered the Daytona 24 Hours in 1969, after Trans-Am cars were able to enter in their own class (in order to boost race entries). The T/A cars faired pretty well, with this one starting in 40th and finishing the full 24 hours in 22nd place.

Oh, and I mainly mad...

CSCC Mosport 1967 - Ferrari Dino 206S #41

Exclusive early livery release for my paid subscribers.

Canadian racing driver Dave/David Greenblatt was one of the wealthier races from up north. He previously raced in the ex-John Mecom Ferrari 250LM before getting his hands on the little Ferrari Dino 206S, which he promptly converted to spyder form before racing it in the Canadian Sports Car Championship in 1967. Sadly, I can't find any reliable results of the car's performance in Canada, but it seemed to be quite competitive!

Pasta's bi-weekly updates: Fairest of Ladies

Hello everyone,

Today I'd like to share a status update on my Fairlady 2000 mod! The great ACL/TCL/WSC physics wizard Bazza has started working on the car, truly bringing the car to life. Its an oversteery little racer, with a good amount of speed - perfect for the trio of historic Japanese circuits in AC. It seems to be quite competitive with the TCL cars too.

There's still a lot that needs to be done, but I can anticipate the car being ready for release before December.

Can-Am Mosport 1966 - Lola T70 MkII #81

For the Lola T70 MkII Spyder mod.

Sidney Taylor may be Ireland's most famous racing driver and team owner. His white/green T70's have raced all over the world, though mostly in Great Britain. By the way, the white/green striped liveries he ran were quite literally inherited by Team Elite via his chief mechanic Ron Bennett.

Taylor had quite the exciting life, being a nightclub owner, entrepreneur and racing driver/team owner. Despite having a thick Irish accent, up to the point o...

Can-Am Laguna Seca 1968 - Porsche 906 #57

For the WSC60's Porsche 906.

Can-Am is mostly remembered for its big engined, ultra fast Group 7 machinery that dominated the races both in pace and sound. Since the series is virtually unlimited in terms of regulations, it did allow for some drivers to go with an oddball car choice.

Porsche was no stranger to the Can-Am series, with Tony Dean famously winning one Can-Am race outright in his 908/2. Though, he wasn't the only person to race a Porsche in Can-Am!

Bridgehampton Grand Prix 1968 - McLaren-Elva MkII #18

For Legion's McLaren Elva Mark II Oldsmobile mod.

As said by my friend Rodger: "Ah yes, the Romanian McLaren".

Last Friday I mentioned focusing more on the unknown and underdog Can-Am drivers, this one truly fits the bill! Ron Courtney ran this McLaren-Elva in the 1968 Can-Am season, without too much success. Courtney first tried racing in local SCCA events in 1960. He seemingly never arrived to the events he signed up to. 1961 though, he did. Having bought a Maserati 200S and rac...

USRRC Mid-Ohio 1966 - Lola T70 MkII #31

For the Lola T70 MkII Spyder mod.

Now, this one is a bit of a stretch in terms of Can-Am classification, but it's still a T70 that was ran in Can-Am at some point.

This car was driven by Donald (Don) Skogmo, a veteran racer who started racing in club events in 1953. Rather wealthy himself thanks to his Gamble-Skogmo merchandise stores, Skogmo raced many exotic cars in various events throughout America. Skogmo famously fitted a Ford 289 V8 into a Maserati Birdcage and went racing...

Can-Am Mosport 1966 - Ford GT40 Mk1 #94

For the WSC60's GT40 Mk1.

The Canadian Comstock Racing Team may be the most successful to come from up north, having their roots from the early 60's and mainly racing Ford racing cars throughout the decade. Active in both sports car racing and touring car racing with their two Mustang's, Comstock were also among the earliest adopters of Ford's new GT40 in 1965 (P/1000 and P/1037).

Comstock suffered a dramatic setback at the 1966 Sebring 12 Hours when Bob McLean had a horrific fat...

BOAC 6 Hours 1968 - Lola T70 MK3GT #2

For the WSC60s T70 MK3GT.

One of racing's most famed paint schemes; Bonnier's cars were always easy to spot. It was especially easy to do so during the 1968 BOAC 6 Hours at Brands Hatch, as this was the only yellow car on the grid.

In a race mainly dominated by the Porsche 907's and the JWA GT40, the trio of T70's were, despite their big powerful 5L V8's, not able to make much of an impact. Jo Bonnier and Sten Axelsson finished highest of the T70's with a 6th place overall.

Can-Am Week Preview

As voted for, with over 50% of all votes, Can-Am week is starting this Monday.

For the next 5 days, one livery from the Can-Am series will release every day! For this first Can-Am week, I've decided to focus on the more unknown/underdog Can-Am challengers from 1966 to 1968.

See you all next week.

For the GTC Lotus Elan 26R.

Shintaro Taki may be known mainly for his successful racing team "Taki Racing Organization" but his career can be traced down to 1964, entering in the unique Japan Stock Car dirt-oval racing series in a Lotus Elan. He soon upgraded to a 26R, in yellow, one that would define his early career as a privateer racer.

At the time, Japan did not have many thoroughbred sports cars participating in domestic events, making Taki's 26R among the fastest cars on th...

Pasta's bi-monthly updates: 1968 Nissan Fairlady 2000

Time to properly introduce this new project of mine to you all: the 1968 Nissan Fairlady 2000!

Greatly underappreciated thanks to its immensely successful follow up, the 240Z, this little 2L sports car defined Japanese sports car racing for much of the latter half of the 60s. In 1963, the Fairlady 1500 became the first Nissan to win a race in Japan, starting a lineage ranging from the small 1500 and 1600 models to the big 2000 model introduced in March 1967. Probably the only (if not, one of very few) pink Porsche 906's from the 60's.

I've tried to dig up some information about the driver, Cliff Phillips, but came up almost empty handed. The folks at RSC have a decent racing record of him and showcased his love for Porsches. He started racing in a Porsche 356 in 1958, then moved to a 550 in 1959, 718 in 1960 - taking a brief pause with Porsche's in a Corvette (which was a DNF on its sole race) - then going back to...

Returning to the Land of the Rising Sun

Alguecool has been hard at work building up Japan's most common 2L sports car from 1967-1970, the Fairlady 2000.

After 2 years of recovering from the tragic loss of my original Japanese race car models, I felt it was time to get back with a properly done Japanese race car. Historically this model was homologated for production GT racing, rivalling the Lotus Elan and Abarth 1300/2000 models of which a few raced in Japan at the time. By 1969, the only cars entered in GT races were either...

The advertisements are either real and taken from the (very few) reference photos from the mid 60's, regionally appropriate advertising from the era or use common brands from the time.
