Things are still a bit rough, with mostly placeholder artwork still being used to fill in the level design. The biggest thing we're working on right now is the controls themselves, getting Ayla moving nicely.

To get artwork pumped out faster I’m starting weekly pinups. Suggestions are welcome and can be any scene or character (within reason). You can drop your suggestions here or on the discord.

Paul is working his magic to bring the croc scene to life. Here are two of the rough draft pencil layouts from the scene.

Lots of jungle babes have recently gone missing, and Ayla does manage to find them... but might have been happier if she hadn't.

Super rough draft idea for a venus flytrap monster to put into the game, with Paul doing a few key frames and coming up with the fun double chomp vore finisher attack.

Forgot to post this here yesterday. I'm bringing more of the final painted assets into the level design. These trees have been my favorite so far.

Happy new year, everybody!
The holidays slowed production down a bit but the pages are getting colors now and will all be out next week. I paired up Eirhjien with a colorist to help with the scene's lighting, since he was having some trouble finding the right look. Even with the colorist coming in to help, it still wasn't an easy lighting scheme to use, so that's my fault for writing the scene that way lol.

About half the reason I wanted to make Cretaceous Seas is the chance to drawn and an animate dinosaurs and other prehistoric looking creatures. This little dimorphodon started as a rough sketch yesterday and basically flew off the page. It's still a rough draft but at only 8 frames (drawn on twos) it won't take long to clean-up. The final might be done on ones, a drawing for every frame instead of every other frame, but he's good enough for the moment.
In game play, he's going to be a ...

I finally have the background art going in a good direction! Backgrounds aren’t my strength so it took a little extra figuring to get settled with style and colors. The tree behind Ayla is still unfinished but marks the direction the rest of the level art will be going. Some of the colors visible on this screen camp aren’t quite on target yet.

Hey folks!
I'm a little overdue for an update but that's mostly from being busy, in the good kind of way. Production is still happily rolling forward on the game and we're getting closer to being able to share a playable demo. Recently, I've been finalizing the first level design and beginning to import the final design artwork. Ayla's animations still need a little polishing but the hardest parts are done. It's an honest effort to avoid "feature creep" for the animations, because I'm g...

Let’s hear your ideas for the next issue of Jungle Dangers! What prehistoric peril will befall Ayla next? We will keep the suggestion box open for the rest of the month and start the vote on Dec 1.
I‘m also interested in hearing some feedback on the artists that have handled the comics so far. Who has been your favorite?

If one of these nasty little critters jumps up on you, it's going to be a pretty uncomfortable situation! In this concept design it forcefully lays eggs down Ayla's throat, causing damage over time.
Not all concept art will make it into production within the game but I'm going to keep having new ideas fleshed out to prepare for the upcoming stages of development.

Before adding the colors, I decided to rough out a greyscale design. This will keep the player's path options clear and make sure the game characters have a suitable amount of contrast from the backgrounds. From here I need to go in and start refining shapes and adding detail.

After a TON of thought and consideration, I reworked my original level 1 layout to have more opportunities for the player to learn the controls, try out combat, and get a sense for the game's feel. This is just the starting sketch for that layout, giving me a map to both the level design and the artwork's construction.
Although many assets will be used several times (individual plant clumps dropped in as filler, the landmarks for each area need to feel unique and organic.
