July Full Release: Pre-Alpha v0.09c

Back to the private releases, here's another massive chunk of content to get through. We've introduced several major mechanics, including the Obscura vision and a proper data-tracking UI, along with new CGs to find.

Without further ado, here's the changelog:

We've got the conclusion to Mission Two, new sidequests, and all sorts of other things to explore. If any of y'all find any major bug...

COMM - Roxi!

Breaking into the new month with July's comm! This month, we feature Roxi - our beloved shortstack tattoo artist. Thanks again to Haczey for this piece!

ART - Friday Update!

Hey folks, just checking in with a bit of news on MONOLIGHTER's next update. We've finished up Mission Two, with a bit of time on our end to work on more of the mechanics we want implemented come next month, including the shop/UI system. We're looking at a release on the 15th, with perhaps another shorter one at the end of the month.

Progress has been steady, albeit quiet on our front, so here's a sneak peak at something our animator has been working on:

COMM - Chizui!

And our comm for June, the lovely Chizui! Here she serves a particular array of sushi, all up for grabs!

A huge thanks to DatPizzaCat for the pin-up!

COMM - Usahana!

With June's comm up and ready to be posted, we realized that we had failed to post last month's comm at all - that's on us, unfortunately. So here's both of them - first, Usahana, our resident dancer of the Underway!

Thanks to Haczey for this piece! Easily one of my favorite designs!

LORE - 10 - Kaiyō Sushi

A unique issue for coastal cities is the effect of overfishing for restaurants and other eating establishments that rely on seafood for their menus.

While some have simply chosen to shut down upon the scarcity of mainstays such as tuna, and salmon, others have learned to evolve and adapt; rotating their menus and even creating their own self-sustaining farms to ensure their survival in the food industry. It isn't easy, but with the demand for decent seafood alternatives continuing to gro...

ART - UI Mock-ups!

As we make headway into the next update, we're hoping to add a few more discreet (but very necessary) additions to the game - including a working UI. There's plenty of systems already in place, but without any visual indicators, it can be hard to keep track of what you're doing, what you need to do, and what you have on hand.

Speaking of, the inventory/money/shop system is something we also want to get done by the next update - with those in place, we can give more substance to side-missions, ...

LORE - 9 - Adzuki Street

The dense megacity of MONOLIGHTER is a concrete jungle of circuitry and faded lights, trapped in a cycle of constant rebuilding as entire districts are demolished in favor of shinier, more efficient structures.

But while these inner streets are reworked to keep up with the evolving trends, the poorer suburbs find no such attention - instead, they are left to decay, eventually taking their place amongst the many city ruins that have also been duly forgotten.

Adzuki Street, once a bustling...

ART - The Obscura

Here's something we've been planning on since MONOLIGHTER's conception. The switch between reality and an alternate view of reality, coined 'The Obscura'. Or hackervision, for those of us who prefer a more direct explanation.

In-universe, viewing the world of the Obscura is an ability exclusive to androids - and not all androids, either. To unlock your vision, you'll need to access some normally inaccessible files within Lensman's body, and upload some pretty illegal software.

That...

Friday Update - A New Month!

Hey, folks, we're surfing into June with our schedule well along the way. As I've said before, this month, we'll be catching up on existing content - to help out, we'll be taking on a consistent pinup artist for the patron who will also assist CGs here and there. While you might notice the style change on occasion, it'll be for the better, in our opinion.

As we roll over to the new month, we're looking at a few options for expanding the quests/hubworld, including implementing shop menus and wa...

ART - Quick Update!

Not to leave you guys dry for too long, though as we remain at the end of the month, the majority of us are busy as we prepare for the next update (at the end of next month!)

So here's a quick look at the animation side of things - we have several new enemies that we've been slowly working on - thanks to our patrons, we have several different types to work with too, hopefully many of which you'll be able to encounter within due time. This one in specific is a non-generic encounter, based on a ...

LORE - 8 - The Underway

In the old world, organized brothels were the lifeblood of small communities and work settlements, boosting the local economy with the one thing workers didn't think they could buy - quick and dirty companionship.

In District D10, the laws are no different, as the Underway reigns supreme as one of the biggest moneymakers of the entire district.

Once a discreet hideout for those interested in more than what flesh could offer, the RR Movement saw the uprising ...

Poll - v0.09's Content pt. II

As promised, we're putting up a poll for all patrons to decide on what we should work on next. Last time, with an overwhelming amount of votes, it was decided that we should work on expanding the current content that already exists in the game.

With that said, we want to hear your opinions on specifically who you want to see expanded. There's unlikely to be time to give everyone a good working over, so! In the comment section below, throw your suggestions at us! Whether...

Quick Update!

Build is almost up, we decided to squash a few bugs in the meantime. I initially put the 16th as the release date just to give us time to get things done, but it looks like I was still a day too hasty. My apologies.

As an aside, thanks to all that submitted their thoughts to the poll! We'll be looking at expanding our existing content for 0.09! This should hopefully include some needed variety in quests and other interactions.

Considering the overwhelming amount of votes, we'll also dedi...

Poll - v0.09's Content

We'd like to grab your opinions on where to go next for the big v0.09. With v0.08 planned to be the end of Mission Two, we'd like to know where you guys are interested in heading next! Whether it's another big content dump, a new hub area, or a new mission, we definitely want to know.

Quick Update!

No lore today, just a quick update on the next update. All the content has been written/drawn, and we're doing our best to plug it all in for a public release. So far, we have:

- 13 New CGs

- 1 New Area inc. New Characters

- A butt-ton of dialogue, including new minor sidequests

Hopefully we'll see it come to fruition in the next few days! As for the next big release, we'll be looking at finishing the second mission, so we can move onto the next!

Poll - May's Character Build-Up

Coming up in May's first build (slated for the 16th!), we have Prisha, Usahana, and a few other characters getting content boosts.

While we whittle away at adding more content, we'd like to know who else you'd like to see, whether it's a character you know the name of, or even just a vague description. (It can also be more of Prisha/Usahana!)

Let us known in the comments below!

LORE - 7 - Darumabar

The long-standing Daruma Bar (or Darumabar, to the newer crowds) has existed as a place of respite for several decades. It's current owner, Prisha, is a friend to androids and humans alike, and reserves no prejudice towards serving either her best brews.

The Post-RR economy has seen the rise of android-friendly establishments throughout the districts. Pleasure zones dedicated to the human sides of sin have opened their doors to robots willing to put down the coin. Money is money, after all, an...

LORE - 6 - Civilians

Any citizen of the megacity can be classified as a civilian, but there exists a model of android designed for the specific purpose of being one.

The Urbanite Thinkbots are marketed as the ultimate city-dwellers - a standardized android model capable of performing tasks at a low wage to no complaint. These thinkbots require little in the way of amenities, and are satisfied with living in the small communal dwellings they are assigned to. Thus, the perfect civilian.

Friday Update - Mission Two

It seems like we missed last Friday's update, so to make up for it, here's a look into what we've been working on this month.

Mission two takes place in a big ol' shipyard! There's a few new mechanics we're looking to implement, and a brand new enemy type to boot. We'll be revisiting this location more than once, too. One thing we want to tackle is altering levels upon visiting them again - new paths, new puzzles, etc.

Next month is another big month, as this month has involved a ...

Lore - 5 - The Law

How does the law function in a city as big as this one? The citizens would argue that it very much doesn't, but behind the blue suits lies a very powerful system of control.

Applicants for the city's police force go under a very strict training regiment to determine their compatibility with the augments required to become an officer. To the law, security theatre is a major deterrent for most petty crimes, and there's no bigger deterrent in a city of criminals than efficient, highly-augm...

Poll - April's Character Build-Up

Hey, folks - part of this month's poll tier is going to go in a different direction - rather than choosing new characters to bring attention to, we want to know who of the existing cast should be given a little more depth.

Naturally, we'll be building on our characters in due time, but much of the background cast is planned to be just that - background fodder. So for those of you who...

LORE - 4 - Mao

Mao is an old friend and training partner of the Lensman. It takes no stretch of the imagination to consider the parkour skills of an android built for photography, and without Mao's help, Lensman would be a lot less dextrous than he is today.

Mao is a courier android, designed to get packages from one location to the other as fast as inhumanly possible. Drones are convenient for short distances, but the intricate urban sprawl and constant threat of thievery calls for more sentient couriers to...

Lore - 3 - Morgan

Morgan is Lensman's trusty companion and writer for the Yūkaku magazine. Don't be fooled by her cold exterior - behind it is an even colder one, inaccessible to humans and androids alike. The only person she's willing to speak to - albeit with faux-contempt - is Lensman. No one knows the past they shared together, but one thing is for certain; without him, Morgan would have long since been lost to the city.

Nowadays, she works on her articles within the Yūkaku. Most of it related to adult pr...
