More Captain T early sketches
Ollie, T, and Sarge's heads all look good here. You can see I'm experimenting with other abstractions of the basic form.

When trying to figure out how I was going to draw the characters, I experimented with different head, eye, and face shapes.

A simple Captain T sketch. trying to figure out his face shapes.

My daughter is 18 months as of this writing. These are just some quick sketches I did of her when we were out.

Boy was a 3-legged dog that belonged to some friends of ours. A very sweet dog.

I forget where I got these stickers from. I put it in my sketchbook and drew its brother.

We used to live down the way from a collection of animals a local cemetery had on land they owned, but didn't have -you know- bodies on. There were pigs, ducks, emus, sheep, goats, the occasional egret, and once I saw a camel (because the local animal shelter had no place to hold it for a few days after a surrender so the cemetery let them use the space until they found the camel a home). I used to go down to the fence and look at the animals. Sometimes I'd draw them.

West African Crane, Gerenuks, and Water Buffalo from the Denver Zoo. These were each about 5 minute sketches.

I'm going to finish out the Prompts for last month, but am going to take at least April off of prompts. I might not come back to them right away.
I'm still going to make the Captain T comic, so expect to see more pages of that.

So my buddy Ryan Talmo, a comedian out in the San Fernando Valley got cancer a few years ago. I painted this for him. Red was his favorite color and this was at the height of his treatment. He's since gone into remission and has an amazing life.

Just a random pose of Captain T in one of my sketchbooks. I'm not super pleased with the goggle design here, but can work with it when I start drawing the comic.

This one is a bit dirty because I had it in a lose-leaf sketchbook, so the pages tended to rub together. It's a great sketchbook for ink, but I learned my lesson using pencil with it.

This goose was at The Denver Zoo. He kept staring at me as I drew him.

I'm going to start uploading photos of my sketchbook pages. I don't have a working scanner right now, so this way you guys have cool things to see everyday. I took most of today taking photos and cleaning them up in the computer, prepping them to post here.
These are some African Penguins from The Denver Zoo.

Sometimes it's fun to be meditative and draw tiny circles connected to each other. It took me a long time to draw this one over several sessions, as I kept going back to it between other drawings. I had a day job at the time that afforded me that time to draw.

Hi all!
I know it's been quiet on here for the past few days. I need to catch up on my physical archive and digitize it. It was recommended to me to take phone pics of my sketchbooks, which is probably what I'm going to end up doing. It's going to be a few days until I get updating again, so consider this a small vacation from my posts.
Drawing Prompts are going to be caught up soon. I'm 10-12 days behind right now, so I'm looking at 5-6 pages of art to catch up on.

The drapery in this pic looks a little more natural, though I did play with a version that didn't have any coverings at all, I decided to go with it. One bushy page is scandalous enough.

The design of this page got away from me a bit. Her leg, which is held up, is completely hidden by the border so it throws the whole thing off.

This was the second close up image I did in the book to try and break up the monotony a bit. Pretty good line weights, but her hair and the flowers get a bit busy together. Contrast would have to be added by the color.

This is my least favorite image I made for this book. I'm not a fan of the hair, face or "empty looking" border work. I feel like there should be some darker thicker lines in here somewhere, but this was the very last image I produced for this book so I was pretty burnt out by then.

This one, the line weights got away from me. The flowers are too fine, the border too thick. And it's easy to loose her in the flowers because their line weights are so similar. This was getting close to the end of my drawings, so I think I was starting to get tired.

This one had a lot of design work go into the circle and borders, but not so much for the girl. I do like the balance of this one though.

The three muses. I went back and forth about the pubic hair. This is the only image in the book that shows any. I had tried putting drapery around them as well as period underwear, but it just looked forced. So I went with nudity. Then I debated, do I shave them clean? But period women were a bit more natural than women of today. So, pubes.

This is another one for Ian. I like the way the two side plant motifs turned out. Balanced lineweight on this one.
