TPC: Chapter 2.1 - Back to Reality

Part 2: Into the Gyre

Chapter 1: Back to Reality

Dennis and Barry didn’t speak much for the rest of the weekend, after their night out at Depot. It was clear that something between them was withering in a way that was rather unexpected, but neither of them could articulate. Barry, however, was closer to understanding it. It was the same sensation that he always felt after a circuit party, or an orgy, when he was back in the quiet house again. He was back in reality. The part...

Flash Commission: Customers for Life

“Why the fuck can’t I move, what the fuck did you do to me?”

“Billy, what’s fucking happening man?”

The two young men, Billy and Les, were standing ramrod straight in the haberdashery they’d entered a while earlier. The shop had looked ridiculous to the two college kids walking down the street--they’d gone in and started goofing off, trying on hats, laughing at the fancy suits and the price tags, until the proprietor had caught them. Now he had them naked in the ba...

TPC: 1.11 - Shadow's Den

Whether it was morning or night now, Marlon didn’t know. One moment, he’d been on the sidewalk with Jimmy, talking about the streetlights or the shadows or something, and the next, he’d stepped into the dark and everything had disappeared around him--and now he was here. It wasn’t that he was falling, or at least, it didn’t feel like falling. There was nothing to fall relative to, so he could have just as easily been floating. He called out to Jimmy, but his voice wouldn’t cut thr...

Opening up for flash commissions!

Hey everyone!

Tax time is right around the corner, which always means a sizable bill for me, thanks to this writing work of mine. I have a sizable buffer of Pigtown Chronicles written at this point which I'll be able to maintain pretty well I think, and so for now, until I'm not sure when, I'm going to be opening up for flash commissions.

Flash commissions cost a flat rate of $60 dollars, and get you story somewhere between 1500 and 2000 words. For reference, that's about the size...

TPC: Chapter 1.10 - Visions of Flesh

As Samuel crossed the club floor, he found himself blinking a bit too much, his eyes still watering and stinging after that odd moment in the VIP lounge upstairs, where his eyes had met Rod’s. The club was dark, but each time a spotlight swung around him he would freeze, like it might reveal something other than the other horny men around him. Something monstrous, but once he processed it again, he saw that it was just men engaged in the usual sort of acts that Depot inspired. But the sense...

TPC: Chapter 1.9 - A Virgin Smoke

Feeling like he’d dodged a bit of a bullet, Kyle took off down the driveway and onto the sidewalk, only slowing up when he’d gotten a few houses away from Dennis and Barrys’ home. “Fucking hell, I’d thought they’d be cooler,” he muttered to himself. The gay couple on the street had always held a certain mystique for him as he was growing up, even though he knew his rather conservative parents were highly suspicious of them. When Barry had come around to ask if Kyle might watch t...

TPC: Chapter 1.8 - Pigtown's Shadow

Both Marlon and Jimmy had been reluctant when Kyle had suggested going out to a club that night. It wasn’t that they were bothered by the idea of going out, or drinking underage, it was that in their opinion, gay clubs were passé. Who went out to a club anymore? It seemed like such an anachronism. If you wanted to meet a guy, you got on tinder. If you wanted to get a drink or party, there were way more exciting places to do it than with a bunch of gay guys. But with enough badgering they r...

TPC: Chapter 1.7 - Home Safe

The ride home was quiet. Dennis was driving, Barry was sitting in the passenger seat, and Kyle was in the back, slumped against the window, not quite sure whether he should be angry or terrified. Barry wasn’t quite sure what Dennis had in mind with this whole thing--was he really going to out the kid to his asshole father, just for wanting to get into a gay club? It seemed...cruel, but then, Dennis had always had a bit of a cruel streak in him. Barry had largely been able to avoid it, but h...

TPC Chapter 1.6 - The VIP

For Samuel, the coke had kicked in, the floor, the air, the bodies around him were all thrumming with energy and rhythm, and he was swept elsewhere for a time. It didn’t bother him that he’d lost track of Barry--his ex was such a square. It was clear that Barry missed him and the scene and he wondered what he could have had if the two of them had stuck it out, but as Samuel had told him when they broke up, there was no real future between them. They existed in totally different realms, on...

TPC Chapter 1.5 - The Offer

Barry was panting and sweating through his shirt, trying to decide if he was having a good time or not. The beat of the music only seemed to be quickening, the crush of the bodies around him growing thicker with each moment. It had probably only been a few minutes ago when Samuel had been pulled away from him, but it felt like hours in the throng. Someone pushed up against him, looked down at him, placed two hands on the sides of his face, and kissed him, only to be whisked away by the curren...

PTC Chapter 1.4 - The Crow's Nest

Dennis was left behind, as he’d expected he would be. If you’d pinned him down on it, he would have even admitted that he wanted to be abandoned, that it would confirm for him that this was somewhere he didn’t belong, and where he didn’t want to be. He sighed--Barry had promised him one drink, but he could already tell that he’d have to drag him out of here in a couple of hours. He could be such a child.

He started looking for somewhere that he could wait, preferably somewhere...

PTC 1.3 - A Dose of BHB

Parker watched Samuel pull that prudish looking little twerp away towards the dance floor, and if he hadn’t been coasting on the high from the weed he and Samuel had smoked before the gallery show, he might have been able to muster some resentment, or perhaps, jealousy. Instead, he pulled Hugh off in another direction, beside a few small tables and the hallway that led down to the bathrooms. Parker liked Hugh, they understood each other. It helped that the dealer was a slight fellow, he cou...

PTC 1.2 - Depot

Here's chapter 2!

***

Cities change. They breathe, and they grow, and sometimes they die, only for a new city to be built on top of it, crushing everything old underneath. This is what Barry was thinking about, as they walked over to Depot, trying to recall the last time he’d gone out to a club. Trying to remember the last time he’d even been in this part of the city. The neighborhood looked so different. The clubs were different, the people crowding around the doors were diff...

The State of the Author, Jan 2021

Hey all,

Alright, it's been a few months since my last update, and I just wanted to say again, thank you all for your patience and your support as I worked through a few various side projects and miscellaneous ideas, as I tried to figure out what in the hell I wanted to do next. Things are finally rolling for me, and I'm confident that I have some actual answers, so here's a little on where my head is at, what I'm going to be working on for the next while, and some other little things.<...

2020 Christmas Tales #12 - Ghosts of Christmas (Future)

Here's the final entry! I hope you enjoyed them all. Here's to putting 2020 behind all of us, and moving onto 2021 with a little bit of hope.

*

It was Mark’s junior year of college, and everything was going exactly as it should, as he’d hoped. He was in the starting lineup of his college football team, the scouts were already talking about him, and if he played his cards right, he would be drafted by the pros right out of school. But then, he’d always known he was dest...

2020 Christmas Tales #10 - Ghosts of Christmas (Past)

For the last three, we have an updated take on the three ghosts of Christmas, using their powers to help turn wayward men onto better paths...or at least sexier ones.

It was all coming apart.

Nate was in his office on Christmas Eve, staring at his computer, looking at the numbers again. He’d been sure it would work. It wasn’t a Ponzi Scheme, not really, he’d told himself. The investments had been low risk, they’d pay for themselves. But people were asking questions...

2020 Christmas Tales #2 - Magi Gifts (Version 1)

There's an old, unfinished Christmas story I worked on many years ago, that some guys still ask about on occasion, called Gifts From the Magi--obviously a twist on the O. Henry short story. I don't know if that original one will ever get a rework, but this is at least a kind of finished version. Well, two finished versions, actually. I'll post the second one tomorrow. This one is more wholesome, the second is more evil.

Jim and Rick had been friends for ages, and while there had...

A Winter Update

Hey everyone. I just wanted to give everyone an update on what's been going on, since it's been pretty quiet around here for the last month, after the flurry of captions I posted for October. This is an update I've been needing to write for a while now, but haven't quite found the right words to use, and it also contains some admissions that I've been struggling to accept, but which need to be said in the interest of transparency.

First things first, the obvious: this has been a terribl...

Twine Teaser - First Session with Mike

It’s Monday, which means it’s time for your individual session with Mike over at his home. You’re still feeling a bit uneasy in some ways after that introductory session on Saturday, but you figure it’s just beginner’s jitters. You arrive at his home on time and he ushers you inside. Today he’s wearing a set of hot pink booty shorts and a crop top. You’re a little embarrassed on his behalf, but then again, if you looked like he did, maybe you’d feel less self-conscious about w...

New Twine Project!

Because I pretty much always need to be doing a few things at once, and because the RPG system I'm working on isn't going to show much in the way of results for a while yet, I wanted to get a jump on something that's been nagging at me, and start working on a few new twine projects I've had rolling around in my head for a while. The first one is a bit larger, but is meant to stretch some of my skills with the language and engine. It's (currently) called "Healthy Rivalry," and takes a few litt...

Pigtown RPG Devlog #4: Character Sheet (Version 1)

Sorry for the relative silence over the last week or so, doing all of those captions last month kind of sapped my energy, on top of the election and a bunch of other stuff going on as well. In any case, progress on the RPG system has continued, and I feel like I can show you all something a bit more tangible, which is the first mockup of a character sheet!

This is a little mockup for a charact...

Pigtown RPG Devlog #3: Adventures in Pigtown

Sorry I missed one of these last week without notice, approximately three piles of shit have collided with four fans, and I'm just getting some of it all mopped back up into a semblance of order. In any case, this week's topic is turning from the basics of character, and instead discussing some of the mechanics of the Pigtown setting itself.

Longtime readers will know that I draw a pretty stark line between what I would call setting, and what I would call worldbuilding. Pigtown, I have ...

Pigtown RPG Devlog #2: Where Characters Start

As good a place to start as any, when talking about an RPG, is to start where the characters start. I want the engine to be able to support a variety of different starting points, where you can play a character who is setting foot inside Pigtown for the very first time, or you can create a veteran character, who is well versed in the back alleys, bars, brothels and sewers of the whole complex. To do this, when creating a character, the first thing that a player has to ask, is how deep have th...

Pigtown RPG Devlog #1: Corruption and Character Creation

Starting things off, I want to give a general overview of how a player can build their character in this engine. The thought that drove a lot of my choices here was, "How do I build an engine that can best mirror the slow build of corruption that gives Pigtown its tension?" Who your character is (and in many ways, how powerful they are) is directly related to how much of an effect pigtown's corruptive elements have had on your character, but those mechanisms can, and should, come from a varie...

Announcing a New Project - A Pigtown RPG

Alright, now that commission season is behind me, I've had some time to think on what sort of larger project I'd like to work on next, alongside the usual stories and things like that. A lot of my interest these days has been on more collaborative and interactive forms of storytelling--things like Twine, interactive stories and RP games and scenarios over on Discord, but one thing that I have always desired is a TTRPG system that I felt reflected to sort of worlds and characters and action th...
