It was definitely a learning process as I've never animated something with multiple rigs and cameras before. The majority of it was built with camera cuts and keying rendering on specific objects to hide them out of sight.

Ended up modeling Dax in PSX style since I think she was better suited for it.

Heavily inspired by my favorite PSX game Mega Man Legends, though a bit more wiggle room with the polycount. Overall I think figuring out how to approach the texturing was the hardest part. Her design may seem simple at a glance but it was still kind of tricky to set up her UVs nicely with similar texel density!

I want to try creating more short tutorials related to 3D modeling, texturing and the Vtuber stuff I figured out, but I'm in need of ideas! I'm not exactly sure what to cover but also don't have the time to do a full 3D modeling tutorial in one go. I'd like to be able to space it out into shorter videos as that's a bit more doable for me right now.

A bit of a closer look at my new design for the mascot/persona I'll be using to represent myself. I used 512x512 textures for these renders but will probably shrink them to 256x256 to give it a bit more of a lowres look.
The idea behind the design was to turn her previous hoodie into something huge and cozy! So I hope I achieved that feel

Some of the designs I went through before settling on my "practice" vtuber, Vera. I wanted to create a character that I didn't plan on using for myself, but just to get to know the Vtuber and VR tools a bit better.
My original intention was to make a high poly model, but lowpoly is too much fun, so I drew up a design that would more closely fit a lowpoly version and ended up making that one. I do still plan on finishing her high poly model when I get the chance!

For this month I plan on starting a new project with my Sukeban and Delinquent girls! Hoping to finally model all of them using this much simpler style. And then maybe play with them in unity.
These models are heavily inspired by that ps1 anime aesthetic while not being as restrictive as models from back then. I'm aiming to create models with around 1500 tris .

Mira's model has been fully completed! Originally created her to do a self-study with modeling higher poly faces and working with normals. While I'm still figuring things out, I think I'm at the point where I want to call her done and move on to the next project before returning to learn more. I do want to try writing up a small tutorial with her (or maybe someone new) on how to prep models for VRM files, which work for vtuber programs if there's any interest in that!

Part 2: Includes final touches and eyelash modeling
I recorded myself modeling her head and put together this timelapse! Includes a few of the trials and errors, I made since it's my first time modeling this way.
I also decided against modeling the hair like I drew it in concept, since I like it this way more.

Been studying how to get better at replicating that 2D look in my 3D models, so I made this new character just for some practice! This model will probably end up being higher poly than most of my stuff but I still plan on creating a slightly lower poly version as well.
As for her outfit, that's still undecided but here are a few previews of my current attempts as well as a few looks at the wireframes.

Here's the finalized reference for Cass. I ended up having to make a few adjustments to her hair just so it could make a bit more sense in 3D. While not 100% there, I can work with this a bit better!
For this project I also want to create a scene for Cass. Maybe like her room or workspace? A combination of both? I'll try to draw up some concepts for that next.

A test walk cycle! Like most beat-em ups, I tried rendering this out in a slight 3/4s view.
With the idea of making her 3D model into pseudo pixel art, I've also been trying to figure out how to cut back on the amount of poses I need to render out for animations without making it look too awkward.
