Usually I rely on photo reference for pieces like this but I did not find anything suitable. Lady-jumping-in-a-lake-closeup might just be too niche to find good photos of. :S

That is the reason why I eventually opted for making a little 3D mockup in DAZ 3D and using that for reference. The free version of DAZ comes with some basic human models and default poses. One of those...

The Gang made it!

After half an eternity on the road, the gang finally arrived at their destination!

Lucy and Robyn worked hard at being a road safety hazards for every motorist behind them so they deserve to cool off in the lake. :>

Meanwhile Dylan is just happy that the honking stopped. He still does not know what that was all about.

Friday the 13th is just around the corner so I did a little sketch of Lucy dressing up as Jason Voorhees. :D

Camping Trip!

Our fearless Trio (and fearless Dylan) finally packed up all their stuff and hit the road! Their destination: the cool camping site in the woods! :D
What silly adventures will they have? Will they sleep in a tent? Will they eat marshmallows around the campfire? Will they find Bigfoot??

As with many other pieces I do, I have been sitting on the sketch for this for a while.
I drew the lineart for this during the same session I sketched the piece in which Lucy gets porked against a wall by a security guard if you remember that one. :D

Behind the scenes you want to see

I like doing these little behind the scenes posts where I talk about art techniques and approaches to achieve certain things. But sometimes it is difficult for me to decide what is actually interesting and what not.

So I was wondering, which part of my work process would you like me to talk about some more? :D

It can be anything related to it. Lineart, Rendering, picking the right reference, brushes, Layer management, backgrounds..

Boring Party behind the scenes

Here is how I did the intense red light in the party piece! :D

I started out as usual, doing some very basic shading (pretending that I am the light source so forms that face away from me get shaded darker. And I adding occlusion shadows).
After that I added the shadow layer, which I always set to multiply and painted in the shadow shapes.
Usually I only paint in the shadows so everything not covered in shadow visually reads as "lit". But in this case I needed the lit areas to b...

Boring Party HD and ALT

Here is today's very red piece for my very red Patrons (that's you! you are the very red patron! :D Please apply sunscreen when you go outsite!! 😭)

I also threw in an ALT version without the extreme red light. In order for this to work I actually had to alter the shadow layer a bit. In the red version the shadows are much darker!
