Aziraphale Beats the Devil

It is DONE! This year's Halloween DTIYS, a parody of one of my very favorite books, and I gotta say I'm real pleased with it. It's silly and the colors are nice and I hope folks have fun with it! I can imagine variations involving other games they could be playing -- Uno, Parcheesi, Operation. Twister???

This will go live on the sosh meeds on Friday, October 1, so if you do this before then just hang onto it until it's posted, then go crazy!

WIP: Aziraphale Beats the Devil

This is one of those pieces that's taking me a while because I just want it to be perfect. I can't remember the last time I was this happy with my Aziraphale, like he really looks like Sheen in that ridiculous, slightly deranged Harry the Rabbit reveal. It's going well!

I'm using the Jing soft chalk brush for some nice texture. The tartan is... not quite Heaven's Dress because -- and I know this is heresy -- it's kind of ugly. I gotta mess with some of his shadows stil...

September: black-eyed susans

Just finished! I'm really happy with this, and it was a pleasure to color. I have a shortcut for Crowley's sweater texture: I do vertical lines and then a pattern of little V's between them. It looks SO impressive but is really simple! And you just can't beat a nice blue and gold combo. I will definitely make a postcard and print out of this one!

Tomorrow I'll draw the name of one of my Lucky Cats who'll get the original, so stay tuned, Cats!

Snake & magnolia tattoo

I had been asked by a really surprising number of folks if I'd be cool with them getting Crowley's tattoo done on themselves. I definitely am! There is no need to ask my permission or anything, and if you do happen to do it, I'd love to see it. A few asked me for a full illustration they could take to their tattoo artist, so I finally, finally got around to finishing it. A good tattoo artists could make it a lot prettier!

WIP: Sweater weather

God, don't we all just?? Need some HUGS? We just need some hugs and some cozy jumpers. These two especially. The fandom is apparently so starved for hugs that one Sheen-Tennant bro hug just short-circuited everybody and Twitter devolved into chaos for a day, so. Let's have some more.

Darling Davina

I have loved Davina since I laid eyes on her, but never drew her because... I don't know, I didn't think I could do her any justice? And I didn't want to sexualize her, but she is a sexual creature! I feel like she might appreciate being portrayed as the bombshell she is. So this was done quickly, but with maximum affection.

The halfway reveal: I've got the lines done for this year's Halloween Draw This In Your Style! It's a parody of the cover of Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold, a book which had a big influence on me as a young adult, and which stars a magician. How could I resist?

Red devil

I've always wanted to do classic red devil Crowley! This gremlin is actually part of my next DTIYS, but I thought his cheese-eating grin was so cute just by itself, so I might make him into a sticker! Gotta decide between these subtle color differences. Lemme know what you like best!

I think I retained more patrons this month than any previous, which really means a lot to me. Finally Crowley gets some candy! Grapefruit -- that's my personal silver-bullet favorite. Aziraphale just wants to treat his demon nice and give him the things he likes. And steal kiss upon kiss. 💕 I think that top right Crowley is the cutest I've ever drawn.

It takes me roughly three days to sketch, line and put a little color on one of these pages, so it's slow going, but I hope it's worth the wait!

August 2021 Lucky Cat drawing

August: summer swim

The husbands have a tropical splash with some local reef fish! I think this turned out really cute, but something that's hard to see in photos is my favorite part -- the white highlights with gel pen that I used on the bubbles and some outlines. In person it looks GREAT, but I think I just don't have a good enough camera to show it properly. The close-ups show it a little better.

And now I have enough to make another postcard set of traditional pieces!

WIP: summer swim

I know I've heaped a LOTTA WIPs on you guys this month. I think I have more in progress than I've ever had before, but this one's gonna be the focus for the next few days -- this will be the original piece that'll go to one of my Lucky Cats. It'll be in some sunny shallows, probably with the sand visible on the bottom and the surface at the top. We'll see how I do with it! I actually like painting water, so hopefully no tantrums. 😅

Charm designs

Here they are: my first charm designs! They'll be two different charms, reversed on the back sides. The husbands will be on a layer above the case to hopefully separate them a little more from the backdrop (the plants one is fine, but Crowley gets a little lost against the candy, I might mess with the colors). And I might make some stickers of all the elements separately, because they're fun!

I want to have these ready for the IneffableCon in October, but if I can figure it out sooner, ...

WIP: Candy charm

This is the idea I had for an acrylic charm! I wanted something a little Halloweeny. I'm not dead set on the colors, and of course it would be nicely colored, these are just the flats. But I'm also thinking of making a version with plants inside!

Also just as a little update... long story short, I spent the last two weeks homeschooling my son and it was just, a lot. I'm still getting stuff done, art-wise, it's just taking me a little longer than usual. Thank you for your patience!

I realize I've done so many drawings of Crowley in pretty outfits, and not enough of Aziraphale. Maybe it's lingerie, maybe it's a very fancy swimsuit, but either way it's cute as heck. (Fun fact: the reference I used for the outfit is a cookie, like a literal cookie you eat.) This is definitely a choose-your-own-gender situation. I do love to imagine Crowley doing Aziraphale's makeup for fun.

At last! The serpent, he is done. Come in, come in, and he'll tell you two lies and one truth. I wonder what Aziraphale would think.

I am one of those people who used to feel like finished pieces HAD to have ultra-clean lines, but then mourned the loss of a lot of personality when cleaning up a sketch. So I just quit cleaning everything up. I sketch pretty clean anyway, but you can see in the sketch, I didn't streamline anything, and I like how it looks.
