2024-12-31 23:55:20 +0000 UTC View PostBig T herself finally got an upgrade; the tarrasque was one of my oldest remaining stat blocks, and it feels great to finally do it justice. This is the main format I'm looking to use for monsters, with physical descriptions, drives, and detailed creature size; there'll still be a few more 2014-formatted monsters coming up, but it just feels like a good time to unleash the tarrasque:
Not every rogue can be a lone wolf, so I collated all my crime-adjacent humanoids for when you're putting a crew together, along with adding some reminders for what Thieves' Cant is and how to use it. Warlocks got a big list of possible patrons/theming, pact boons, and familiar options.
The hope is that when you reach for these NPCs you've got the tools at hand to seat them in the world and make them feel specific, so do let me know if there's anything else that feels like it would ser...
2024-12-23 19:00:01 +0000 UTC View PostHere's a class for 5.24 I'm working on with a friend, and a quick bundle of level 1-3 spells:
The Goon Class (Revision 1)
These sorcerers got a spread of origin stories and and the monks got fighting styles, but both feel like they could use a little something extra. What will you be wishing you had close at hand when the party seek out a monk or sorcerer ally/mentor and you need to improvise an NPC?
These bards got a bunch of performance traditions and performance names to help inspire unique and varied NPCs, and the rangers got a huge list of possible beast companions, because you're not a real ranger if you don't have a pet:
2024-12-02 19:00:02 +0000 UTC View PostAll right, I've started posting things in the new 2024 format now, so lemme just get a couple things asserted somewhere central for easy reference:
The adventurers use a special format of their own that's going to be a smidge different from anything else. They're made to serve a very specific set of purposes that aren't usually relevant to monsters, and the format is there to serve those.
The format is almost certainly going to shift again in February. There are a...

2024-12-01 21:00:06 +0000 UTC View PostAll right, clerics and barbs now; I'm trying to include things that you'd want to have on hand when reaching for a classed NPC; there's a smidge of space left in these so if you think of anything really handy let me know and I'll get something in there.

2024-11-25 19:00:02 +0000 UTC View PostStarting out on the new 2024 format here and the 2024 adventurers with them. I'm doing something slightly different for the adventurer stat block format because there's information like level and and subclass I wanted to get in there.
I really wanted to focus on making these useful as NPC allies, since it felt like that was the way the old ones got used the most and splitting the difference made them a bit awkward as both enemies and allies.
Let me know what thoughts you have abou...

Now, I don't usually mess with gods, but people love fighting Tiamat so here's a couple of her avatars: The Exalted Queen and The Godheads Manifest. 5e usually stops tracking CR after 30, but for her I made an extended CR table so you could have a decent idea of how she might stack up to your party; at CR 41 nothing other than a well-prepared T4 party should be able to make a serious go at her.
I also briefly detailed out her lair, so if you're running an Avernian adventure and your pla...

Put together a little dragon cult expansion that should be helpful for anyone running HotDQ, with the Hot DQ herself coming up next week. The water is a little bit muddied by the fact that one dragon cult calls itself "The Cult of the Dragon", but the intent is that these should work for any sort of dragon-worshippers.
The drakes got a little mechanical separation to make them less interchangeable, and wights got a small face-lift as well so I threw them in to get the update into the ...
Made some changes for readability this month; I went through all my monsters and color-coded them, so hopefully it should be a fair bit easier to find the good stuff in the catalog. I wanted to do it with highlighting rather than changing text color, but homebrewery is having difficulty highlighting things in a table of contents for some reason. I'll keep fiddling with that, though
Also, I drew some deep sea creatures if anyone wants to 2024-11-01 19:00:09 +0000 UTC View Post

Got a few infernal wildlife-types here, both of which are widely despised by true devils; Advespas/Hellwasps (I rolled them together because it was clear that D&D just changed the name at some point) are essentially just demons, kidnapped by the archdevil Glasya and lovingly raised to serve the Hells (heavy sarcasm on "serve") as a really elaborate way of spitting on their progenitor's grave. Her neighbors are not happy about this development.
Ayperobos are also probably a demonic t...

After a brief hiatus, we return to the forces of the damned; here we've got a spread of Merregons, baby-faced infernal stormtroopers (the Star Wars kind, to be clear), and three variants of Narzugon, goth paladins that are arguably even gothier than the Death Knight.
I got more blights than you can shake a stick at here, sufficient for every sort of plant-y mook you might find yourself in need of, with a spell for making more of them besides; perhaps they're in service to this Bodytaker Plant, which is literally just the creature Invasion of the Body Snatchers (if you haven't seen the 1978 remake, I recommend you do so at your earliest convenience).
Giraffes use their own butts as pillows, and often fall over while trying to drink because their neck is too short to reach the ground.
Hail the great pumpkin, spooky season is upon us! I managed to consolidate the master pdf into a single document once again; you shouldn't use it if you have another option, but it's there for posterity and for people without reliable internet. Also finally got updated to foundry v12, so that should help fend off any incipient compatibility issues that were stalking my footsteps.
I'm also trying to get a Better Monster Manual together for a cheeky February release, which'll be fun but a...

I finally did some honest-to-goodness hemipterans here; I'm gonna keep using "bug" for the super-polyphyly of terrestrial invertebrates for the time being because no one can stop me, but if anyone knows of something that works well and isn't wrong, get at me.
Also got some mutated moth-and-beetle-folk from Cobramode, and gunsnails in a few varieties; two made for someone's joke-monster encounter, and one based on some art a friend of mine did based on the first thing he imagined when se...

I dunno about y'all but Jumanji (1995) put the fear of pelicans deep inside of me; I just can't shake the belief in my heart of hearts that they're uniquely evil animals that have it out for me.
In working these, though, I discovered that people throughout history have mistrusted pelicans, with one surprisingly widespread myth being that they have incredible powers of necromancy, feeding their blood to corpses to resurrect them.
For the Cobramode stat blocks, we've got more pirate...

Put together a whole mess of soldiers here so I don't have to keep telling people to reskin hobgoblins, along with a few War Magic spells and a lightweight Mass Combat system for running battles in 5e that are too big to represent in regular combat, while staying focused on the players and their actions.
Also have a spread of skulks here. I'm using the 5e lore of people who just sort of faded away to nothing as the Shadowfell wore them down, which just feels a bit more in line with thei...

Let's get this straight: kobold's aren't goblins, whatever the superficial similarities. Goblins know they're going to die and are cool with it, they just want to make sure they go out with a bang; kobolds, on the other hand, know that other kobolds are going to die, but are sure that they've got the gumption and genius to make it through this unscathed. You won't see kobolds jumping off buildings to kick a guy in the head, but they will step into their own trap to unstick the trigger.

Biggest of the boys here, including an honest-to-badness Archdevil. I'd like to call him new, but Dispater here's as crusty as they come, one of Asmodeus' original crew that he rolled into Baator with. He thinks he's better than the other archdevils because of it, and he's right.
He's not sure if there're actually legions of assassins out for him, or if that's just his paranoia talking, because he's locked under so many layers of iron and magic that none have ever managed to actually re...
