Today I learned something kind of interesting...the word "boudoir" comes from the French and meaning "pouting room," from bouder, "to pout" or "to sulk."

My French friend told me this, and that the literal translation, to pout or sulk, might have been simply because it was a private space for women to...I don't know, FEEL their feelings because they weren't allowed to express them in the 18th century (when the word became popular)?

First shots from PDX

Hopefully you already follow @vauntastic and @corwinprescott on IG, but if not - you might want to start! This duo kind of fits my aesthetic perfectly, and I've wanted to work with both of them for years. He filmed 3 videos of us (which will be on my OF starting next month!) and we also shot some beautiful nudes in the forest.

Okay, this looks cool.

But can I just tell you, this was not like...beach sand. This was not the kind of sand that brushes off as your feet dry in the sun by the ocean.

This was like construction dirt sand. I was FILTHY. It took me a good 30 minutes of hard scrubbing in the shower to get it all off me! I brought my camera to also shoot her (the photographer) but I didn't dare open my lens in that room.

Dreamy simple moments

I had the pleasure of working with @anlou_pro last week, as she spends some time visiting NYC from Russia. She really has such a beautifully quiet, elegant style of directing me to pose...pushing me a bit to let go and loosen up a bit. I think it makes for a peaceful set of images.

A change of scenery

I'm still catching up on work, and dealing with a two week long sinus infection. I definitely ran my body into the ground the last few weeks. I hope you had a good weekend...even though St. Patrick's day has no meaning in the US other than bros getting trashed, for my family it's still special and nostalgic!  I took the weekend off from "work" and I feel so recharged, I can't even tell you.

March mood

The last two weeks were so busy with work, I can't even tell you!  I'm taking a couple days off to chill, thank goodness.  

I've been wrestling with a lot of feelings about my work lately, partially because with the atrocities going on in the world right now, and the conflicting advise about whether to shut my mouth or to speak up.  I's hard to keep posting such self-centered work when people are suffering so much.  But at the same time, you're probably still going t...

Just a quick set (and free OF link)

This week I've been feeling a lot of things.  Maybe it's the dead of winter, or because I have PTSD from the last three years of recurring tax nightmares, or maybe it's that I feel more overwhelmed and burnt out than ever.  Things are shifting, changing again, yet somehow still feel stagnant at times. 

I'm grateful for the influx of work, very much so, but also I'm clearly bad at managing myself when things get busy.  I'm kind of craving some alone time, some distanc...

Stupid Cupid

Have you been in love?  What was it like?

I've been in love 3 times.  One, he broke my heart, another - well, I broke his.  The third story is still going!

I don't feel the highs as much anymore, but I also don't feel the lows as much either.  I'm not numb, but I've ended up perhaps a bit more even-keeled as I get older.  I do kind of miss the passionate, messy stuff though.  What do you think?

Raw Self portraits & OF link

I'm headed to CDMX for the next week, and I'm not brining my computer with me (yay, not working - well, not too much anyways).  So I wanted to make another post before I leave...

These are kind of old...well, from last fall.  I decided to leave them completely raw, so you can see my aging neck and under eye bags in their full glory.  I also left in the ones that aren't quite in focus, and overexposed so you can see me trying to figure this whole self-photograph...

A new groove

I have hard drives full of photos, organized by photographer.  Just over the last six or seven years I've worked with over 100 people, most of them men.

I guess back in the day, it felt like 100 first dates...each new person was a couple hours of chatting and getting to know each other while we worked, all the while me being naked or half-naked.  Thankfully I've had largely respectful experiences, and maybe one in 10 of those people I worked with again and again.

Quiet snow day

Since it's been a bit quieter, I've had more time to spend actually answering your Instagram DM's and chatting with you on OF - and it's been really nice!  I missed that.  Back in the day I was really lonely and less busy, and it was always so amazing getting to know you all that way.  That's the bad thing about "growing" (in terms of numbers)...and I don't want to lose touch.

Things will probably ramp up again, but for now I'm enjoying this muffled quiet and feeling peac...

Why do I always feel more like myself when I get out of the city? I guess I grew up in a rural place, but for such a long time I wanted only the opposite.  I suppose that's natural and to be expected.

I do love New York, I mean I tried to leave once and ended up coming back.  I think it keeps me moving, motivated, on my toes.  But I do feel a sigh of relief when I get out of town, out into nature...I feel more inspired to shoot ...
