Nightmare Kart DLC dev update 2024/8/1

Worked on the DLC characters kart for today's Nightmare Kart dev post!

The kart is effectively a segway, but it folds up into a big wheel that the DLC character will sling on their back. They also are sporting a cane, which acts as the key to open the folded up kart and operates as the handle.

Big update for today's Nightmare Kart dev post!

Worked on a new power up these last few days: The Molotov Cocktail! This throwable object will light enemies on fire, damaging them a few seconds after impact. This delayed damage can be avoided if the player puts the fire out by doing a trick in the air. The fire is also capable of spreading to other enemies!

Nightmare Kart DLC dev update 2024/7/9

Back from my second mini vacation and back to work!

I finished the old kart model, rigged it and brought it in engine! I also made a single idle animation for the hunter to get a better look at the final vibe. The animation set for the hunter would have been very generic if they were just sitting their with their hands on the wheel so I made them relax their power up arm on the side of the seat to give them some personality.

Progress on the kart! Really happy with all the details, primarily the rust, seeing as the DLC will most likely be named "The Old Karts', to riff on the bloodborne DLC (which is called the old hunters for those who dont know)

The kart texture itself is almost finished, the only remaining thing being the interior, most notably the seat.

Now that the train prototype has been created, proving that the idea can work, it's time to get to creating the new kart and racer for the dlc, who will be the stars of the show!

Working on taking the proof of concept code for the train and turning it into something usable. To start, I made the train cars modular, meaning that adding cars only takes a matter of seconds now, compared to before where I had to add them manually which took way longer.

Nightmare Kart DLC dev update 2024/6/28

Happy to announce that the DLC pack is now in development! The central idea revolves around chasing then boarding a giant steampunk train filled with enemies and hazards, while you wield a new infinite use sniper rifle that requires æther vials to fire, like the noble pistol and moonlight before it.

This new DLC level will also heavily involve a new character who, at this point in development, is working with the hunter to pull off a heist

Nightmare Kart dev update 2024/5/21 (Spoilers!)

Worked on rebranding the final boss for today's Nightmare Kart dev post!

Replaced every moon presence reference with the rebrand design, including the final cutscene where a giant chunk is taken out of its head, which required a unique model and rig. I'd say the final boss fight is roughly 95% finished.

I originally wanted the blood and guts to be white, but hunting down and replacing every single blood spurt particle and guts material wouldn't be worth the effort, so red it is! View Post

Take a look at 'Voice A' for the hunter, also voiced by @TaschDraws! It's neat how even a small handful of lines can add to a character. Also, a small tweak, but I lowered all engine sounds by 25% as it always felt too loud.

Nightmare Kart dev update 2024/5/15

Working on the Eileen redesign (renamed to Raven) for today's Nightmare Kart dev post!

Decided to go full plague doctor in terms of the new design, and I also gave her big braided pigtails seeing as I had two animated cape bones for her 'wings' in the original design.

The pigtails are a bit stiff seeing as the character was rigged and animated with a heavy split cape in mind, but I think it still works!

Worked on UI a little bit for today's Nightmare Kart dev post!

Part 1: the little 'notification queue' above the speedometer that displays battle information now shows the correct rebranded names. A small detail, but it had to be done sooner or later!

Part 2: the graphics setting have been broken for a little while now and the game was locked at 1:3 resolution, giving it that retro pixelated look. This is fixed, & the default is set to 1:1. I felt that this was better now that...

Nightmare Kart dev update 2024/5/3

Worked on the intro cutscene that plays after the tutorial for today's Nightmare Kart dev post!

The original Bloodborne Kart didn't have this important cutscene that lays down the context and was instead glossed over via some text over a static image because players were expected to know what was going on as Bloodborne knowledge was expected going in. That is no longer the case, so a new cutscene laying down the ground work was needed.

Nightmare Kart dev update 2024/5/2

Got new VO for the hunter (by the talented Kamran Nikhad!) for today's Nightmare kart dev post! This is categorized as 'Hunter Voice B' as there are multiple voices that can be chosen from for the character select.

Whats most notable is that, while the hunter is still a silent protagonist, we now have more reactions (A hit react and a small chuckle) instead of just a death cry which is really exciting!
