Now that this one's done, maybe this afternoon I'll stream the inking & coloring of the full page!

I'm not sure what the thought behind this was. I drew them at least several months ago, but damned if I know why.

I've had this pose thumbnailed on my tablet for... I don't even know how long. At least a year, maybe two. And in all that time it screamed out to be drawn, and today I finally listened.

This week I'm finally working on something that's been on my list for a while - a 3D model of Theycallhimcake's Cassie. I started her in part because I needed a refresher in Zbrush. Now that I'm somewhat refreshed, I've decided I'm better off doing this block pass in Maya, instead. Once the blocking is done, I can take it back into Zbrush for the next step.
Also yes, her boobs have already been modeled, they're just hidden because they cover up her entire torso.

It seems my Python switch has been flipped this morning! First it was a idea generator for times when I'm feeling art-blocked, now I have another in mind - a script that could award a commission to a random patron.
I'd done commission raffles before, until Patreon banned them. This script would be different, because it wouldn't be tied to specific tiers. Any patron could win, just by being a patron. BUT, the odds of winning might be improved by how long one has been a patron, and the to...

So, sometimes I need help coming up with ideas to pinups. Between work and my various side-projects, I may spend so much time not drawing pinups that I don't even know where to start. But what if I had a digital idea bag to cobble together ideas from?
The way I've seen other artists do this is with separate bags of tokens - one bag for characters, one for costumes, one for activities or poses, and so on. My version would be a Python script that'd basically do the same thing.

I've at least two more pages planned after this, but I really need to take a break. Juggling this comic and my professional work has taken its toll, so if anything I need to work on something else before my time becomes limited again. Worst case scenario, this page serves as the ending for this chapter...

Getting close! Once I ink & color this one, I can take a break to work on other things! The question is, which things?
The backgrounds for this comic have been exhausting, so I'm tempted to work on my diner model some more, so that maybe I can use renders instead of coloring it in Illustrator. Pinups & my Zbrush list are other options.

The next comic page - and the high-res versions of April's pages - may be a little late. I'm up to my eyeballs in a contract that is both soul-draining, and that should have been done by now if the client could stick to a schedule.
If you remember, last year I was rigging characters in Spine from October to December. And I hated every second of it, because Spine is a terrible program that lacks some basic features that'd make its workflow much more tolerable. Now I'm doing more of the s...

Something a little different while contracts are keeping me busy...
A few days ago I ordered some universal cases for my loose game cartridges. One nice thing about these cases, is there are plenty of covers to choose from for each game. But what if the cover you want doesn't exist?
I love the Japanese box art for the Sonic games. The U.S. art... American box art in general was horrible in the 80s & 90s. If only there was an American version of the Japanese cover... so I made ...

After fully coloring this page, I had it transition to black & white, so that I might avoid having to color most of the rest. Thinking on it more, only 3 of the next 5+ pages would've been black & white, so what would be the point?
Stylistically, I might still play with the color saturation in the next few pages, just not to the extent that I had with this one.

FINALLY colored!
For the sake of getting this chapter completed quicker, I've been thinking about doing the rest of the comic in black & white. That'd be a harsh shift after having this page in full color, but I may have a found a compromise, which I'll try out on pages 2 & 3...

For my second attempt at Mo's hair, I'm going for a much more stylized look. So far it's a lot kore tedious than I expected, bedause each piece needs to be positioned, rotated, and scaled manually. I thought Zbrush had a quicker way, but so far I haven't found it.

So, the poll with my characters looks so one-sided in favor of Monique, it's almost not fair. But on the bright side, I'm still happy with Daisy's model, so her body can be re-used for Mo! Monique's model sheet is a few years old, though, so this morning I drew up a new one!
On a different note, a couple of days ago I started inking & coloring page 1 of the Candice comic. All that's left are the backgrounds & shading, but the coloring so far has been such a slog that I'm more co...

The other poll is still open, but I'm starting another anyway. Simple reason - the winner of this one will need a full model sheet drawn up, which if I'm trying to mimic another artist's style means it could take a while.
That's right - this poll is not for my characters, but other artists' & patrons' OCs.
Off the top of my head, there's around 50 characters I'd like to model. For this poll I wrote a Python script to pick 10 at random. Who will it be?
It's only one vote ...

I thought it would take me longer to get used to Zbrush, but this is how far I've gotten after a little over a day -
Davey's not finished, but the parts that are left (hands, feet) are a bit tedious. I'd rather work on faces. And while I do have other character sheets drawn up, perhaps I should model one of my own characters this way? But which one?
There are some tantalizing possibilities. For ...

You ever try to learn something several times, fail each time, only to find out you were approaching it the wrong way? That's me with Zbrush.
When I first tried Zbrush, I'd seen two ways of sculpting characters - creating a base mesh with Zspheres, or modeling the character in a program like Maya, and bringing it into Zbrush for detailing. With the introductions of Dynamesh and Sculptris, I'd see artists instead start with a sphere, and shape it into a full character as if it were clay....

Now that I'm caught up on last month's pinups, what will I work on next? Looking at my to-do list, the most crucial & overdue thing might be learning Zbrush, so I think that's what I'm going to focus on for the next week.
What's funny and sad about Zbrush, to me, is how long I've had it - I bought my license back in 2013, but the most I'd used it for was shaping Daisy's body. I'd download the newer versions, since upgrades are free, but I rarely bothered to open or even install them...
