Miss Us?

I think it's safe to say Daisy's "vacation" is over! This is the first of 3 versions. The second version covers her up with a Patreon t-shirt, and will be posted elsewhere later, depending on how long it takes for me to finish the shading. The third version will be sent to $5+ patrons in a couple of days.

I'm pushing to get this pic colored by month's end, and I'd say I'm about half done. I'd originally planned to use this as painting practice, but the lighting is just a tad too complicated. Only an hour and a half in, and I'd decided to switch back to Illustrator.

Can you believe it's been almost a month since I last drew Daisy (Not counting her model sheet)? That's something that needed fixing yesterday! I finished this sketch last night, just in time to ink it during the livestream. Now I've got until the end of the month to color it. An in case anyone's wondering, there is an alternate version. :)

Mary-Anne test animation HD

Since I'm posting about animation, here's the new HD render of my old Mary-Anne test! Re-rendering this also may have convinced me to focus more on game quality. Nothing seemed to work! Old plugins needed to be hunted down and reinstalled, her leg rig had been screwed up somehow, the renderer kept crashing... I should have been to just hit the render button and let the computer do its work, but instead it took me days just to get it to a point where I could hit the render button!

Doesn't seem to be as much interest in commissions this time, so I'm finally getting to the next comic page. Now that Rose has finally brushed her hair, she should be much easier to draw...

A little bit more sculpting, to help make things "pop" more when I bring the model into Maya. I don't know that they final model will be as defined, right now I'm just sculpting in anatomical details so I'll know how the polygons are supposed to flow. I also may need to seriously consider upgrading my copy of Maya. I'm still using Maya 7, which is lik 8-9 versions behind 2015. After downloading the 30-day demo of 2015, the first thing that struck me was that it can actually display the full,...

Yesterday it occurred to me that I'd only been considering two of three options for modeling Daisy's body - using Rose as a base, or modeling it from scratch. The third option would be to sculpt it in Zbrush. Apart from potentially being quicker and more orgranic, this would give me an excuse to finally use the program... So today I spent a couple hours preparing a very simple base mesh to sculpt on top of.

One way I'd planned on saving time on modeling Daisy's body, was to use Rose's as a starting point. Now that I've squashed Rose down to Daisy's height, I may need to rethink that. With the amount of time it'd take to clean everything up, I might be better off just modeling it from scratch.

One more, and then I may not look at these model guides for the rest of the week. At the top is the 4-heads version from yesterday. Below that, is the result of all of the obsessive measuring I did this morning, with the 4-heads version overlayed in light blue. Here's another look at how obsessive I am about getting Daisy's model sheet "just right". Lots of measuring, dividing, and averaging... The nutty thing is, I don't put anywhere near this much thought or effort into drawing her any other time.

Double Cosplay

Misty, Violet, Daisy, and Whitney dressed as Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy, respectively. This was an interesting one - started as a request (I must not've gotten to it fast enough), then became a commission with Dutch's Misty & Whitney added in. Sketch commission for Andrew - Daisy dressed Emma Frost from Grant Morrison's X-men run. I had an extra bit of dialog planned that got me thinking... wasn't it hinted at some point that the way Emma dresses is just a telepathic suggestion? I know the character is vain, but as a telepath she could be vain in a pair of comfies or a bath robe, and no one would know the difference. :P

enough talking about things I might work on, here's a partial look at page 2 of "Late Again" My original plan for this comic was to focus on Rose the whole time, and not show her completely (or even her face) until the very end, mostly just to keep the different in height between her and Daisy a surprise for people who aren't familiar with her... That plan might've required more focus on her surroundings, though, and I hate drawing backgrounds more than I love drawing facial expressions.

Candice concepts

This is another character that I'll need to settle on a design for, soon. Her name is Candice, she's Daisy's rival, and a contender for queen bitch of the universe. Right now the only thing guiding my design choices is that she needs to instantly be recognizable as arrogant, stuck-up, entitled, and of course, a bitch. I could probably just base her directly on Paris Hilton and call it a day. :P Now to find just the right hair style for her...

At around 7.5 feet tall, she REALLY doesn't need a whip to intimidate anyone... but I'm sure it helps.
