Mednafen/Beetle Saturn latest core now has MAME CHD support!

Romain Tisserand is on the verge of successfully having completed the bounty 'Mednafen/Beetle Saturn MAME CHD support'! What this means, is that the latest core version now has MAME CHD support.

You can convert your Saturn CD images to MAME CHD format, or even obtain an existing MAME CHD set for Saturn that you were using for MAME/MESS, and use that now with the Mednafen/Beetle Saturn core!

This came about as a byproduct of Romain and inolen looking into MAME CHD support for Redream. The...

RetroArch with Flatpak - Distro-independent Linux version!

The big new RetroArch 1.6.2 release is imminent, and it will bring some big changes and improvements.

Right out of the gates, here is something that a lot of Linux users have been requesting for decades - a distribution-agnostic way of installing RetroArch on Linux. With Flatpak, this is possible, and this version is available right now!

Parallel N64 is about to get a big image quality boost soon!

There will soon be a 'quasi-VI filter' mode built into Parallel N64's Vulkan renderer. What this is, is effectively a cut above what the RDP's regular VI filter would be able to do.

In essence, we apply NNEDI 3x  together with 2-pass anti-aliasing. The results are impressive, and it really helps smooth out both 2D and 3D visuals. We feel confident that when this is released, users will no longer feel that they are being shortchanged graphically when compared to say a HLE OpenGL-based rend...

RetroArch FPGA - cores are beginning to run!

Consider this project still in an experimental phase - but cores are already beginning to run! What you see is a FPGA devboard with RetroArch that is outputting a random libretro core to the screen.

It's still far too premature to speculate on what this project will amount to ultimately, and what our future plans are for it, but we felt we ought to share with you this latest breakthrough in development since it has taken quite a while to get there!

Which two new libretro cores would you like us to work on for the current month and a half?

Take your pick. The two highest rated ones will be picked. In case only one core gets all the votes and none of the other two get any, one other core will be picked at random.

For further clarification -

PPSSPP is a PlayStation Portable emulator. Check out its website here -http://www.ppsspp.org/

Impressive input latency results in test conducted between real SNES and RetroArch!

Brunnis (quite the input lag authority who regularly posts on the Libretro forums) has committed several patches over the past few months which dramatically decreased input latency in NES and SNES emulator cores.

Today, he came back with some results of a science experiment he conducted. In this experiment, he tested the input latency difference between a real Super Nintendo system connected to a CRT monitor vs. RetroArch running on a PC with a SNES core.

What he came back with were quit...
