The buildbot is doing round 2 of the 1.7.7 release rollout. It will likely take hours again to be finished with them all, but you'll get a better endproduct out of it in the end.

In the meantime, here is an early release of a pre-alpha version of RetroArch for UWP/Xbox One! Please be aware that this is very early days -  and read all about it in this blog article -

(Upcoming) RetroArch 1.7.7 - RGUI Particle effect animation system!

Courtesy of jdgleaver -

Introducing the concept of RGUI particle effects. Basically, you get 256 particles to play with, each consisting of 4 float variables with which you can do as you please. This is very crude and simplistic, but it's also quite flexible and adding new effects is a fairly trivial exercise.

From a user's perspective, the current Snow option has been removed and replaced with a new Background Animation setting under User Interface, Appearan...

Experimental Vulkan and X11 Lakka 2.2 builds for x86_64

So far nvidia PC GPUs were supported by Lakka through nouveau open-source drivers.

Unfortunately, these drivers are nowhere as complete as Intel or AMD ones, so while having some advantages (DRM/KMS support, no X Server) this approach has major drawbacks, for example:

  • poor 3D performance
  • no support for recent GPUs
  • no Vulkan

Because of the above, PCs with nvidia GPUs were not a good target for Lakka. To overcome the limitations and u...

(Upcoming) RetroArch 1.7.6 - Resolution selection! (Windows)

We have implemented a dropdown list of all the available resolutions that your display server currently supports. You can select a resolution from this list and it will change the output resolution, and it will even change the refresh rate accordingly. So you will be able to jump from 4K 60Hz to 1440p 120Hz if your video card and TV/monitor allows for it on the fly!

Hopefully this is far more convenient than having to manually set the fullscreen width/height manually inside Video ...

Reicast Libretro Atomiswave support!

Thanks to flyinghead, Reicast Libretro has now gained Sammy Atomiswave support! Sammy Atomiswave was an arcade system board based on the Dreamcast/Sega NAOMI hardware. A lot of SNK Playmore’s flagship games transitioned from the ageing Neo-Geo hardware to the much more modern Naomi-based hardware, such as Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, Metal Slug and so on.

Both MAME ROMs and Demul-compatible roms should work. Note that as of right now, only a limited selection of Atomiswave...

New Sega Saturn core - Kronos - OpenGL rendering and cached interpreter available!

We are making a new Sega Saturn libretro core available today - Kronos. This is a fork of Yabause from the developer FCare. It's actually a fork of a fork, in this case a fork of uoYabause, now called Yaba Sanshiro.

It has an OpenGL ES 3.0 (for mobile) / 3.1 renderer, allows for texture filtering, and upscaling.  It even has a cached interpreter CPU core which should be faster than the default interpreter that the standard Yabause core has.

RetroArch for PlayStation2 in development - WIP video!

fjtrujy is working on a RetroArch port for the PlayStation2. Yep, you read that right!

So far, he has succeeded in getting RGUI rendering onto the screen, the PS2 joypad is working, and a core has been compiled (Picodrive). From here on out, the challenge becomes a bit harder - he will need to figure out sound, get the libretro core actually running, get audio/video performing well, etc.

You can see here this current WIP video of how RetroArch on PS2 currently looks like. RetroArch is a ...
