A very quick midweek video about Magnetic USB cables.

I bought something like £70 of magnetic USB cables to make this video - and in the end I'm still not sure whether there's any point behind them. However I'm pretty confident that I've found the best one available.

Retro-Tech: The 1972 Desktop iPod

I hope you enjoy watching this video as much as I've enjoyed putting it together (perhaps even a bit more).  I'll be making this one public on Sunday morning.

Now I've hit the $500 funding  goal I'll start work on getting that new 4K intro video assembled. I have a few ideas - some of which no doubt won't work. So I'll probably be asking for feedback here. I also intend to post  videos about the behind the scenes process as things start to progress.

Thanks agai...

On Patreon you get to see this video a day early. If you like any of the clocks shown it might be wise to order one before the video goes public in the morning  as there are only a handful available.

Just a brief note to say that my latest video is out...at least it is for Patreon subscribers as well as visitors to my website.

It will be going live to the public in a couple of hours or so.

Tomorrow's video - Today

I still have plenty of work to do today on editing and uploading the samples and creating a blog entry for this camera. I therefore plan to release this video Sunday morning...and that means that you get to see it a day early.

The sample clips should be available in the *next few hours*.

My favourite dash cam

Ladies and gentlemen (but it's probably just the latter) - I'm posting this video here a couple of hours before it goes live on youtube, and I hope you enjoy it.

The downloadable samples will only be available when I set my blog entry live which will happen at the same time the video goes public.

I just have to mention that for the next couple of weeks unfortunately I'm not going to have an opportunity to post the videos early here.  I've scheduled three videos t...

Just a quickie...

I've got a bit  bogged down editing a dash cam video (it's running over an hour long at the moment) - so I took the afternoon  off to make a simple video about a USB cable instead.

Then I decided it was boring and needed a Muppet...

So three days later, here's an over elaborate video about a USB cable.

Enjoy.

Now back to editing that dashcam video, that (if feedback is to be believed) no one wants to see.

P.S. Here are the links if you are interested...

Hologram Vinyl!

So I was in the middle of day one of an anticipated two day edit of a complicated video when the Amazon chap turned up with this record.

I just had to drop everything and make a quick video about it...the other video will have to wait until next week now.

It will be 4K when youtube has finished processing the video.

Bring out the Gimbal

It's always great to try out some tech I haven't used before. So when I was offered the opportunity to try out a Gimbal, I couldn't refuse.

I'm a big movie fan, there's nothing I enjoy more than discovering a great movie from the 60s or 70s that I haven't seen before.

The way that the look of movies has changed over the years, can often be attributed to the technology that was available at the time. For example in the 1960s, smaller hand held cameras gave filmmakers a way to ge...

Retro HiFi: The DBX Disc

One thing that often comes as a surprise to anyone getting into vinyl for the first time is surface noise. As soon as the stylus touches down on a spinning disc there’s a noticeable background rumble. You could spend thousands in trying to eradicate this, but turn the volume up and you’ll discover that whenever one object scrapes along another, surface noise is inevitable.

The absence of any background noise was one of the things I noticed when I listened to a CD for the first time in...

The Cellink B Dash-cam battery pack

This is one of a few devices that have been sent to me recently so I have been anxious to get the video out so I can move on to more fun projects.

It is rare for me to accept gadgets, but I'll make an exception when it is something that I haven't seen before.

I can understand why 'HDigital Eye' would want this one explaining in a video - it is difficult device to get across the concept with a couple of pictures and a few words on a website. Hopefully my video will help to expla...

Just managed to get another short video out

This is a demonstration of a really nice Airplay speaker. It's a bit of a rush job as I have a couple of devices that need my full attention next week - so I wanted to clear some space on the HDD and move onto those projects on Monday.

It will be available in 4K when it has finished processing.

A new small dashcam review

This is a good small camera - however when I agreed to review a couple of Vantrue Dashcams I didn't realise that they would only be on sale in the US.

In future I'll stick to reviewing cameras that anyone around the world could buy through eBay as the majority  of the  viewers and subscribers to the channel reside outside the US.

This video will be in 4K when the processing on youtube has finished.

The brief life of a 'Viral Video Hit'

I thought you might want to see the impact that having a video reposted on a popular blog has and it's not as great as you might think.

I was in a fast food restaurant killing time whilst my car was getting serviced when an email came through on my phone from one of the youtube subscribers excitedly telling me that my Nixie watch video was on Gizmodo, and I'd hit the big time. From experience I knew that it would be a flash in the pan. I'd seen this happen a few times over the years and c...

Apologies for the unfunny Muppet based outro, so many people keep asking to see the muppets, but I'm not a comedy writer so writing sketches doesn't come easily.

New York in HD - 1993

I'm putting together a video about DVHS/DTheater.

It's taking a lot of work, but there's one bit I can show you now. I've captured some footage from a demo tape.

After some internet archeology (helped by the adverts in Times Square) it transpires that it is from 1993 - that's really quite early for HD video, so presumably this was originally shot for the Japanese market.
