Medicating My Macaws

I want to take you through my journey of "Hey, your macaws need medicine daily!" and how I handled that news and what it looked like. This is the less than ideal situation where no prep training has been done ahead of time to make this experience easier on my birds. All I have to lean on is my relationship with them. So let me take you through how many days it took to get this to more of a voluntary experience for my birds.

I definitely plan to syringe train the rest of my flock now......

Navi Training - Putting her toys away

Navi has acquired a lot of toys since she's been home with us and so one of the behaviors I've wanted to teach her is to put all her toys into her toy basket. Here's my first go at it... (for birds, this would be retrieving objects to a bowl which we show in our Trick Training course.)

Reason for my silence 🤐

I realize I’ve been a little MIA lately and this is one of the many reasons why. Our only truck left broke down.

I’ll explain more at some point but right now on top of being sick, our vehicle trouble is far from over and it’s been all consuming.

I’ll be back when things settle down but I just need some time to get some really important things situated before I can share or even make much of anything. I apologize but I just need to take some time to process and figure out...

A recent injury in my flock...

This took place on our flight trip and luckily Prim is all healed and better now, minus that particular toe(nail)...

New partnership coming...

We are very excited to be able to make a positive impact in a physical place with birds vs just purely online. We truly hope more bird stores like Dallas Parrots become open minded to changes like these in their stores.

Van Update 🚐

I realize I have not given you guys a van update and I've been asked a lot so here's the whole, horrible story thus far. Last you guys knew, it was being towed away but here's from start to now:

Bought van, had it a single night before driving it to Seattle for a lift kit that took about 1.5-2 weeks. Flew back to Seattle, drove it home and had it less than 24 hours when it needed to go in for recall work on the pop top. Left it a week for that. Got it back, drove it about a week or so ...

Advice for having your first macaw! (Outside the Flock)

In this consult I met with Sunny’s soon-to-be owner Nikki! She’s kept birds in the past and currently has budgies and cockatiels, but is preparing to bring home her FIRST macaw! It’s a very exciting time for her and her family, and she wants to be as prepared as possible and establish some mentorship along the way to be sure she and Sunny are set up for success.

Unedited Training Session with Comet

Today I had a very unplanned training session with Comet (and Tusa, but didn't video his!). I originally started the session hoping for wings out like I trained Tusa to do. What I got was a head shake so I went with that and began capturing it. Comet picks up on this pretty quickly but as you can see, it's not learned yet because once the spray bottle is out of the picture, he doesn't offer the behavior anymore.
