The Country The World Says Doesn't Exist

By admitting this country exists, we've become criminals. And while taking risks is part of our job, nobody forces us to make the choices we make. But that's not the case everywhere. Sometimes, existence itself is a risk. You're born into it. This is Artsakh.

Common Ground! A Useless Dinner Story!

Hey Patrons,

As mentioned on Monday, we are going to pump out some Patreon inspired videos this week to catch up on the backlog. We intend to have at least one video per Wednesday after we finish these going forward. Since it is currently Wednesday, in a way this is the spiritual first in that effort.

They won't all be this long or rambling, but everything has to start somewhere.

THANK YOU ANINA.

Cheers,
Evan and Francesco

Second Channel! Introducing Common Ground.

Well, dearest Patrons, the time has come. We've started a second channel to host our inane, little, comical stories from the road.

This video is not one of those stories, granted, but it is the final thing we filmed in Chile. Drunk, laughing, happy. A good way to cap off an amazing experience.

You might notice the entire channel is named after, and dedicated to, our first video tier Patron Anina Keller. She's earned at least 3 videos already, so those will be coming out ASAP. I int...

The Irresistible Goblin of ChiloƩ

Francesco and I always disagree on which episodes we like. He likes this one. It irks me. I always feel bad when the writing isn't up to my standards.

But I'm still proud to present it, imperfect or not. A final video from the wonderful nation of Chile. Next up - Armenia! (and the breakaway Republic of Artsakh)

Thanks to all of you, a thousand times over. We could never tell these stories properly without your support. Nobody likes to advertise on videos about religious goblin mole...

How to Spend a Fortune

Sorry for the posting delay on Patreon, I'm filming in the mountains of the breakaway Republic of Artsakh and internet has been a bit complicated.

Mad respect to you all.

The Last Indigenous Sacrifice of the Americas

This one, she stings. It was hard to write, hard to film, and hard to edit. But I still think it is worth it.

Sacrifice is never easy.

The Mad King of Araucania

This video has been posted by a very tired man in Vienna, waiting for his (second) overnight flight in two days. The future is Armenian!

I hope you like this story of a Frenchman who tried to change the world. His life was unique, and unique people are usually worth knowing about. Speaking of which: The last few days I've been pretty caught up in Anthony Bourdain's tragic death. He was an inspiration to me, and this series takes a great deal of its influence from his work. Despite having ...

The Greatest (True) Revenge Story Never Told

Lautaro! We've now moved a bit over halfway down the country and have entered the lands of the Mapuche. Our next three stories cover topics from Araucania, and (unlike usual) I'm actually really pleased with how they all turned out.

Hope you enjoy!

The Nazi Pedophile Apocalypse Cult

Easily, hands down, the least comfortable I've ever been at a filming location.

I'd love to do a real, in-depth, interview based documentary here. It's such a strange world. You feel it like a fog the entire time you're there. Such a traumatic and horrifying place.

I Have No Taste

This was a very amusing video to film. There are some serious topics coming up, so it's nice to have a light one. Enjoy!

A Tale of Two Cities

I think most of us know the first line of Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, but have never heard the rest. I tried in vain to write it into the script, but in the end it felt hamfisted. Rather than let it go to waste, I'm posting it here for you to enjoy.

  • It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, i...

The Inca and the Spanish

A tale of two empires. Sort of.

Thanks again to everyone for taking part. We're excited to send out our first show souvenir and make our first personalized videos! Both of us on this end are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support for our little show.

The Desert that Blossomed the World

New Patreon Subscribers: Welcome to your first Saturday. I'm really pumped to see so many of you here. This is a truly incredible feeling.

To the early birds: Some of you have on paper reached your tier prizes, which are getting packed and ready as I type this. But since Patreon charges on a monthly basis, I have to wait until the month clicks over to confirm.

Particularly happy to note that we have our first thing being sent out soon. Given the occasion I'm going to aim for someth...

Well Hello There

A gigantic thanks to all the Patrons, new and old.  I'm gonna think of all of you as investors. The shareholder meetings will obviously have pizza.

I spent 3 weeks debating if we'd release the video today, given how it took a more personal tone. But I'm happy we did.

The Gods of the Oasis

This episode takes a bit more poetic license than usual, given it is about a town filled with new age hippies. Apologies in advance for the slight change of pace.

It was hard to find stories in the desert, but I don't regret going there for a second. The landscape alone made it worthwhile for me. Driving across the Atacama (twice) was one of my truly unique life experiences.

Hope you enjoy the video! We're slowly working out way down the country, and will be in Chiloe before you kn...

The Giant of the Atacama

A new Saturday, a new video. Hope y'all like it. This one is about geoglyphs, the giants we can't see from the ground.

Also, just a heads up: the camera is in the shop getting the sensor cleaned (finally), but afterwards I intend on making a number of Patreon-only videos. Basically, I'm gonna sit on my couch and tell some stories from the road that were particularly amusing. It'll give me a chance to use some more of the b-roll we've taken but been unable to find space for.

Thanks for b...

How the Tiers Work

If you could lend me your eyes for a minute, I have a small update on the tiers.

I want to make sure everyone gets the most of this Patreon with the least amount of effort possible by me. I'd started under, and am now somewhat stuck with, the "per video" charge system, and that has made the tiers kinda wonky and opened up the potential for questions.

"If I sign up for the $15 tier but set a monthly max cap of $15, do I still get the tier?"

"When will you send my thing?"

The Original September 11th

We're in Chile! Well, I guess technically we were already in Chile, but mainland is mainland.

Now that we've hit the milestone 100 Patreons I think I'm going to start dedicating some time to making Patreon-only videos and posts more often. My current plan is to sit down and do some storytelling with visuals from parts of our trips that didn't make it into the series. Basically just me chatting off-script about inside jokes, I'm guessing.

Like Tom Scott's Park Bench. Except just for...

The Ego Net

Dearest Patrons,

It's that time again. New video Saturday!

This week we went a bit artsy with it. It felt like that type of story.

Today's episode is cut out of a single two hour interview with a chef. But this isn't really the story of a chef, or his food. He wouldn't let us come and film him if that was our goal. This is the story of the human ego, faults and glories. This is about a single person, hiding in his corner of the world, fighting to remain on task. But really, ...

The Day Aliens Invaded

This is the first video we are adding on YouTube with Patreon names attached (and donations charged).  I'm only dry heaving a little. If I made a mistake with your name, or you'd like to be publicized differently, leave me a note and I'll get to it ASAP. We're happy to change it, now and in the future, you just have to let me know.

We're planning to start posting some photo/video-based stories from the road on here, just for you guys, starting as soon as I get back home to Canada thi...

The Useless Rock Worth Dying Over

New video! I decided against releasing this one early/to Patrons and charging everyone, because as mentioned I wanted to give everyone time to find their place among the noise of tier changes. However, next week, the whole shebang begins in earnest.

Hope you like the video! It is a little less dense than our normal fare, but who doesn't want to learn a little bit about a 2.5 starred tourist attraction? Very few of us, I'd presume. Yet, here we are.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciat...

Tiers Updated

Hello Patrons!

I hope you're all having a wonderful time watching me tinker with this Patreon account and learn how to take money without being the worst person on earth. I've only lost half my hair from stress, so I'd say we're off to a roaring start.

I updated the tiers today, as I was informed my lottery idea was "illegal" and "not at all allowed on this platform". Those quotes may be made up, but they are nevertheless true.

Please note that because of the changes, I won'...

Welcome to our Patreon

We spent a few minutes making you a welcome video to thank you for joining us and taking part in all this. Francesco dropped pasta quite literally all over everything.

We're still getting used to how Patreon works, but we hope to give a lot of behind the scenes stuff for y'all to enjoy as time goes on. Drone shots, unposted photos, inside jokes and the works.

It isn't exactly a real episode, but we're entertained. Thanks again everyone.
